Shades of Green has posted a notice about the expansion and relocation on its website:
It is our pleasure to share with you the exciting hotel expansion plans for Shades of Green® on Walt Disney World Resort®. Our new expansion will include a multi-level covered parking structure, spacious lobby, banquet facilities, 10 suites, 290 additional standard guestrooms (bringing our total to 587 rooms), a specialty Italian restaurant, and a new family-style restaurant. Our construction period is aggressive with a groundbreaking in May 2002 and a projected completion date of September 2003. Disney's Palm and Magnolia Golf Courses will not be affected and will continue operations throughout construction.
As you may have heard, Shades of Green will be closing, and we have transferred all guests whose reservation dates begin or include March 31, 2002 to Disney's Contemporary Resort, North Garden Wing, adjacent to the Main Tower. We considered the potential inconveniences associated with this expansion as it relates to guest satisfaction. We had to address such concerns as the necessity for off-property parking, noise and dust disturbance, safety hazards, force protection, and just general guest discomfort.
What does this mean to you? Well, first and foremost, we were able to secure the same room rates as offered here at Shades of Green. Rates are based on two adults occupying a room so for each additional adult over the age of 18 you will need to add $10 to your room rate. The only additional expense to you is the 11 percent state and county tax, which is unavoidable. Realize how wonderful these rates are considering that normal room rates for Disney's Contemporary Resort are between $234 and $370 per night plus tax. In addition, we will be offering the same discounted prices on military attraction passes and Shades of Green merchandise as would have been offered if Shades of Green had remained open. Our relocated ticket office is at Disney's Contemporary Resort in the North Garden Wing, room 7346.
Our reservations office will remain open to provide vacation planning services to include reservations at Disney's Contemporary Resort, (please click on our link for more details on Disney's Contemporary Resort) military discounts at other hotels in the local area, and rental cars. Don't forget reservations are accepted 53 weeks in advance and bookings for the "new" Shades of Green will begin in late August 2002. Call us toll free (888) 593-2242, Monday through Friday, 0830 to 1700; closed Saturday, Sunday, and all federal holidays, or click on "Reservation Request".
