We were thinking of Pop Century for our visit in Oct. but with 2,880 rooms it is bound to be a zoo. I recently came across the Shades of Green being an Air Force family this works for us but I don't know much about it except it is reopening in March and it will only have like 600 room which means it will be more peaceful. I have 2 kids 9 and 12 will they be bored at SoG. Should I be brave and go to Pop any help would be great. Thanks

Shades of Green is a wonderful resort for the price with very spacious rooms. It has a nice pool area although it may be a bit crowded now that the resort size has doubled. It is a short (10 minute) walk to the Poly which makes access to the monorail and Magic Kingdom very convenient. There is regular bus service to the other parks if you do not use a car. My family loves SOG.

We are going in Dec., and could go to SoG at a rate of approx. $119 per night. AWESOME compared to other deluxes, but the rate at POP for this time in 2003 was $49 a night! As of now we are doing POP.

You can also phone SOG and ask for an "overflow" price to most WDW resorts at a good discount. This past Oct you could get a Moderate resort for $79. AKL and WL around $119.

We have been taking our son to SOG since he was 7.....he is now 12. I have to say that we had never been to a WDW themed hotel previously, so I guess you don't miss what you don't know.......my son loved SOG! It was at WDW and that was all he cared about. Everytime we see a picture of a palm tree he says.........Look mom, Shades of Green....Wish we could be there.
The hotel was very nice before the remodeling. It was a bit of a ratmaze in that the hallways made several turns so if you were at the end of a hall, you had quite a hike to the lobby. We always requested a close room on the floor of the lobby, which at that time was actually 2nd floor, so we could get to the bus stop quickly (keep track of the bus schedule and you will never have to use your car.....you are right next to TTC and monorail). Those first rooms were a little noisy (you could hear light mumbling as people walked down the hall) during peak times of the day because everyone had to pass you to get to the other rooms, but we did not mind. For the most part, everyone there was very friendly since we are all in the same boat (military). The staff was fantastic. We once forgot our cell phone plugged in beside the bed and feared housekeeping would either steal it or charge calls to it, but neither happened. Very honest. Same went with my rolls of quarters left on the dresser I used for pressed coins......still there when I returned to the room. Nice laundry room with several washers/driers and a tv in there too if you want to stay. I never stayed and never had my laundry stolen. The restaurant in the lobby had a really decent breakfast buffet that was cheap. Never ate the dinner...it was a themed buffet each night during certain hours. We enjoyed the Sports grill next to the pool. GREAT FOOD reasonably priced....try the onion rings. Small arcade and pool table in there. They do have room service in the rooms, but I tried the pizza, which is cheap, on several occassions (different years) and IMO the pizza is terrible. Not sure how much time you stay at the hotel, but for us, we only use hotel for shower and sleep and spend the rest of the time in the parks, so resort decor is not important to us. Enjoy your trip.

As previously stated the SoG rooms are huge and will be newly decorated. The PC while new is much smaller with 2 double beds as opposed to 2 queen beds and a daybed or pullout couch at SoG. At PC your kids will share a double - are they the same sex? Another consideration is where you will likely spend most of your time. If you think you will be at MK and Epcot a lot, then you can't beat the location of SoG. From PC you must bus everywhere or drive.
