Shades of Green hotel question (s)

After much research, I have decided to stay at SOG this Sept.
My husband is DoD employee and w/ three kids, it seems perfect.
Only problem is our DS, 7 1/2, who has mobility problems. He can walk, but not long distances without pain. We will either use a
wheelchair or double stroller for the parks, but nothing at the hotel. DH requested a room by the Magnolia Pool; seemed best location to minimize walk for both the pools and bus, if needed. Guy taking reservations told him he would put us down for the Magnolia Building. Logic tells me this "should" be in the Magnolia Pool area, but can someone verify?

Also, anyone have the conversion for civilian to military grade? My DH is
WG-8. When he called for reservations, the guy seemed to have a hard time figuring out the rate. It ended up being $97/night for a standard room. This was not what we were originally told. It is still a great rate, but still curious about the conversion. ??
Thanks, Lori

Did you check out the web site? That seems about right.

I can't answer any of your questions but my dh is an 0-3 which is category 2 I believe and our rooms would be the same price.

I just used their website with his grade and that's the rate that came back there as well.

My husband is a wg-11 and we are paying $106. a night. The rates are going up as of October 1st, 2005. We are staying at SOG from 10/18 - 10/26. I was told by the woman who took my reservation that a wg-11 is the same as a GS-11. So I would say a WG-8 would be the same as a GS-8 with a rate of $97. a night.

Only E-1 thru E-5 get a lower rate and all civilians are category 2 - $97 or higher. The SOG website shows GS-1 thru GS10 as category 2 and if I remember correctly they treat GS and WG as the same so you were quoted accurately.

When I made my reservations they did not know of WG rates for my 2003 WDW trip and for my one coming up in 20 days!!! I am a WG11 and I made sure I got category 2 rates, because I told them that my pay rate is equivalent to or even less that a GS9 and they agreed.

The pools are NOT close to the bus stop at all. So that area will only be close to the pools and restaurants. But....if I remember correctly the hotel has a few wheelchairs there that you can only use at the hotel. You should be able to request one for your use while you are there. Call them and ask.

Here is a map of the resort http://www.shadesofgreen.org/Resort Layout.pdf

The way the hotel is set up nothing is really close to the buses. The area they are putting you in is probaly the closes to everything. We were in the New section and we were far from everything but the parking garage. Which was fine we have no complaints and even after recieving great rates thru disney with a Pin I still booked at SOG again for June. Have a great trip.

MikeL1515..what is the pay rate of GS9? I was told that the SOG rates are going up as of Oct. 1st from $97 to $99 for a category 2 and $104 to $106 for a category 3 which she said a Wg11 was. MY husband told me not all WG-11"s have the same pay rate, so that would also make a difference in what category you fit into.

Another question about SOG...How is the bus service? Is it better to walk over to the Poly and pick up the monorail to Epcot and MK? Is it direct service to AK and MGM?

Just to make things interesting, the guy at SOG told my husband the WG-8 is
equivalent to an E-6. ??

Thanks to all who responded to my questions. Haven't had time to respond sooner;
husband and kids home for weekend take up all my time!
Couldn't download the PDF's from the SOG website, so couldn't check map. Good to hear the area we are hoping for is probably most centrally located as I had hoped.
Also thanks for the heads up on the hotel wheelchairs, will look into that as well.
I am so looking forward to going. Told the kids and hubby they better enjoy themselves or else! They are really indifferent, it is amazing; I've been looking forward to this for 35 years!

As for the difference in pay, it depends on your step. Just like a GS-10 step 6 makes more than a GS-10 step 4, WG has steps also. You can be given step increases between grade promotions or if you're in job that you're at the top of your grade, you will continue to get step increases til you top out. I am currently in a GS position with head room of two more grades. When I get promoted to the top of my position in the next two years, it is time to look for a job with a higher grade level. Problem is, I'm not DOD, but my DH is an O-6 in the reserves so we'll pay $116 for our room at SOG in Nov. That's still a bargain. SOG is a great deal for an onsite room of that size.

Lori ~

My fam and I just got back from SoG 2 weeks ago. We were in the original building, first rooms on the right after the glass ramp/walkway on the lobby level. (Oddly enough, the same exact rooms we had stayed in on our last visit to SoG in 1995!! What are the odds of that?!?) Our room #'s were 201, 202, and 203. I believe we were the closest rooms to the buses, and our balconies overlooked the Magnolia Pool. The rooms directly below us had patio's that were right at the pool on ground level. I would guess those room numbers would be 101, 102, and 103? HTH - if you have any more questions, certainly feel free to pm me. Have a GREAT vacation ~ sadly, I'm still suffering withdrawels, LOL.
