Hi kids,

Is the SOG resort only for enlisted armed forces, or can armed forces civilians stay there, too?

Thanks!

Hi, I can't answer you question myself but here's a link to the official Shades of Green web site that explains eligibility. Hope that helps you out. My mother-in-law is taking us to Shades of Green in January and we're really excited about it.

I believe that it's for enlisted only, however they can "sponsor" up to 3 rooms. Our first trip to WDW was with my BIL. He is in the Air Force. He was able to get the 3 rooms. There were 9 of us total on the trip. If I remember correctly, all 3 rooms were not in his name, but had to be linked to him as he was the only active military member of our group.

Enlisted personnel and officers can stay at Shades of Green, I think you mean "active or reserves". Department of Defense employees are also eligible as are retirees with 20 years of service and I believe, disabled veterans.

I think that there is a fairly extensive list of people eligible to stay at SoG on the website www.shadesofgreen.org My husband works for the US Army Corps of Engineers/Dept. Of Defense and can stay at Shades of Green.

Eligibility for All AFRC's except Dragon Hill in Korea-Active , Reserve and National Guard Soldiers-Retirees ( those who retired with 20 or more years of service), Coast Gaurd, NOAA,and Uniformed Public Health employees, DOD civilians and sponsered guest of one of the above-eligiblity for military personnel and retirees is both officer and enlisted-but NOT IRR-if you dont have commisarry you dont have AFRC-hope that helps

Wow how exciting! I always assumed it was only for active enlisted military, but my dbf does indeed qualify!!

I can't believe we can start staying a five minute walk from the Poly monorail station for $99 a night. It's just so awesome!!

Use the golf cart to get you to the end of the SoG drive, and it's 30 secs away.

SOG is truly an awesome resort. Let me suggest you eat once at the Italian resturant there. The new additions are very nice but are a nice walk to the two pools. If you select a pool view room they will place you in the old part of the hotel. If you go, enjoy your stay and have fun walking over to the Polynesian. We usually eat at O'Hanas over there and then watch the fireworks from the beach.

I've been meaning to ask about this, so now that you mention it I will...
I assumed that all the AFRC's were the same as far as eligibility, but when I went to the website for the Edelweiss Lodge in Germany, it did not list Reservists as being eligible unless they were there on orders. Anyone know if that is the case? I would think if we are eligible for SOG we would be for the other ones, too.

It is weird how it would not list reservists. They have become the back bone of the military but still have yet to recieve the credit or benefits. I would email them directly and ask them personally and if your not satisfied then go higher up the supervison tree. I know reservists who stay at garmish without any problems.

Thanks - I did try to email them, but didn't get an answer. I got some kind of automated response back, but there was no message - just a blank window. Maybe I'll try again. I did think it was weird - it seems like if Reservists can stay at one they should be able to stay at any. I think they are run by MWR and we do have MWR privileges. It sure would make it easier to be able to stay there if we get to Germany like we are trying to!
