We are planning our July trip to Disney World. My family will stay at Beach Club. My sister and her family will be staying at Shades of Green. We're obviously trying to keep the same schedule and so far that works fine with ADRs.
Next step will be to coordinate our Fast Pass+ reservations. She's having trouble getting her Shades of Green reservation to appear in her online "My Disney Experience". Will she be able to participate in Fast Pass + and get Magic Bands for her family?

Shades of Green does not currently offer magic bands as they are not a Disney owned property. They will have to make fastpass reservations when they get to the park. This may change soon though.

She doesn't need MagicBands to pre-select Fp+. If she is unable to link her tickets to MDE, she needs to call Disney and ask to get assistance from IT. once her tickets are linked to her MDE, she will be able to select Fp+ 30 days before her arrival at her first park. She and her family will tap their tickets at the Fp+ tapstiles; she does not need to pay for MagicBands,

Her SoG reservation won't link to MDE as shades isn't a Disney owned hotel. That said, she WILL be able to prebook FP+ reservations 30 days out. Offsite guests, which SoG are for this purpose, will get this ability on March 31st.

Re: magic Bands - you don't need magic bands to use FP+. Disney is supposed to start selling MBs to offsite guests, though, so if she really wants them she may be able to purchase them when she arrives - but no one knows when those will go on sale or how much they will be. She definitely doesn't need them for FP+, though.

I have the same situation this fall. I ended up adding my dad & his wife to my Bay Lake reservation so they could use magical express and get magic bands.

Now that "offsite" guests will have access to magic bands, maybe it will be easier.

I think it matters what kind of ticket they get. I believe the military tickets are just vouchers that can't be linked to a magic band until they are exchange for real tickets.

I do not believe this is the case...I know I have read a dew reports here of people using the #s on the voucher to link to mde.

I'm just a little confused. Last time we were in Disney was April 2011 and obviously MBs and FP+ were not a thing, there were no rumors about it. :confused3 Our trip is in 51 days and we are staying at POP but getting tickets at SoG and getting the promotional ticket they have available.

So SoG does NOT have MBs and you can link your FP+ to?

Offsite, including shades, do not have mbs yet. Mbs will be sold to offsite guests who want them eventually, but no one knows when or for how much.

You do not need MBs to use fp+, however. The RFID enabled park ticket you will get will link to MDE, where you can prebook your FP+. Since you are actually staying at POP, though, you will get MBs, and you will be able to prebook fp+ 60 days ahead of time (as long as you have valid tickets linked to mde. If you don't buy your tickets til you are at SOG, you won't be able to prebook fp+ until then)

HTH!

Disney is not selling FP+ to anyone. It is free to anyone who has been invited to test offsite. Disney says that it will stay that way, believe who you like.

I did not say they were selling FP+. I said they will sell magic bands. Disney has said this. Magic bands and fp+ are independent entities. You do not need a MB to use fp+.

And just so there is "official" information behind my post:

Hi, Todd. Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels, and Annual Passholders will receive a band, as well as those guests who purchase a photography package. Guests who stay at non-Disney hotels will receive a ticket with features of touch to enter the park, touch to redeem FastPass+ and touch to pay. These guests can participate in My Disney Experience and purchase a MagicBand if they wish.

This statement was made by Tom Staggs on the Disney Parks blog (response to comment #13) way back when FP+ was first announced.

So, in short - yes FP+ is free (included w/theme park admission) for all guests. Starting March 31st, offsite guests (like SOG) will get the ability to prebook FP+ 30 days in advance (onsite guests get 60)- also free (included with theme park admission).

Magic Bands are a separate entity, and will be for sale to offsite guests at some point in the future. No one knows when, and no one knows for how much.

I just got off the phone with Shades and POP.

SoG said: they give a "certificate" type card, you take it to guest relations in any park, and they will give you an activated band.

POP said: I can go on MDE and order our bands, go to SoG and get the "certificate", go to guest relations and they will activate our bands that we ordered.

We are not the OCD-plan our every move-have everyday planned out-type of people. We discuss the night before and even the next morning what we want to do. So we will just wait until we get down there to get the MBs and start selecting FPs. Then again, I'm hoping it wont be extremely busy May 17-24 so we dont have to rely on FP.

Excellent discussion and information. Very helpful - our family will use to plan. You all are great.
