What do we need in the way of a sewer hose? We have never camped at a place with a sewer connection at the site before, so I am wondering if we need a sewer hose support or locking strap? Also how much hose will we need? I don't know how close the connection will be to the RV, and I would hate to get there and not have what we need.

Typically you just use your dumping hose and stick it in the hole in the ground like you would for dumping at the dump station. Usually when you back into your sight the sewer hole is centrally located to where your hose wont have any trouble reaching. That being said I have a extra hose in my camper just in case. And finally in most cases your hose can lay on the ground and drain just fine. The most important thing to rememeber is to leave the valves on both your black and grey water tanks closed and just monitor your tanks like you normally would. When the tanks are close to full you go out and pull the lever and let it drain. Then close it again. If you dont do it that way the solids will not have enough liqiud to wash away. And just use your grey to rinse the hose like always. Hope all this helps.

Well, it all depends on how long your trailer is, where the sewer outlets are on your trailer (are they in the middle, toward the front or rear). Usually the campground connections are in the "middle" of the site, but sometimes not.

A couple of years ago we stayed in the 300 loop, specifically Site 305. The outlets on my 30' trailer were at the rear and the hook-ups for the site were near the front. It took my 20' plus a 10' section that I carry just for these situations. Also, almost always I have to use a 25' section of water hose plus a 10' add on.

I guess what I'm trying to say, always carry extra water and sewer hoses.

The bright side is that there is a Camping World store over in Kissimmee in case you need to pick up something.

I think we use a 20' hose. We connect it to a red elbow (available at walmart or camp stores) and we use the rubber donut. I think donuts are required at FW and probably most other campgrounds. All campgrounds we have stayed at have required one. Get the plastic clamps to clamp it to the red elbow and the other end should have the adapter to connect to your camper. We always keep our black tank closed until it is getting full, then we empty it. We keep the kitchen closed as it never gets full. We have to leave our shower (gray) open as it fills up after one shower. We just plug it back up the last night so that we have extra water to flush our hose out after emptying the black tank for the last time before we pull out. Our final dumping order is black, galley, gray.

While regulations vary from state to state and campground to campground, I don't think sticking the sewer hose in the hole in the ground is acceptable practice anywhere anymore. I'm pretty sure a "hard" connection is required most places now. At FW, there is a threaded attachment at each sewer hookup. Your sewer hose probably came with a threaded adaptor which looks like an elbow which should thread into the attachment and give you the connection you need. If you don't have a support for your sewer hose, be sure to go out and lift it when you drain your tanks so that any residual waste water goes down the drain. Also, after you empty your black water tank and close the valve again, be sure you put a couple of gallons of water into the tank along with your favorite tank treatment to facilitate the next round of tank emptying.

By the way, if you check out the picture of my camper in my signature block, you can see the blue sewer hose so it will give you an idea of where the sewer connection is at the campsite at FW.

Thanks everyone. We have a 31' Airstream and the connection is toward the back. The thought of just laying the hose into the ground is really gross to me, especially with kids running around. I don't think we have the donut clamp thing, but I will get one before we go. One of our favorite local campgounds just redid a large section and included sewer connections at those site, so we will be needing it a lot.
