My co-worker is the sweetest girl in the world. She calls me Mom. Last September her cousin made her Godmother to the cutest, sweetest little baby she named Aleksandr... yes, that's the spelling!

Yesterday the Mom found him limp in his crib. Today, he was taken OFF life support.

I cannot imagine what the Mom is going through. The nightmare is... it may be her fault.

She typically swaddled the child to take a nap. Why swaddle a 7 month child I don't know but she said it made him feel more comfortable.

The doctors told her that he was probably unable to adjust his nose off the mattress and it stopped his breathing.

She's young, 21, and her husband was at work when it happened.

I cannot imagine. Losing a baby is horrible enough but to have to deal with the guilt... So sad.

Prayers for the young family. I know this pain and I am still shaking. :sad1:

*** UPDATE: They found out that the baby was born with heart disease and that was the reason he passed... :(

At least she won't be able to blame herself. The stages of grief are horrible enough but guilt is the worse part of it, and the one that lasts the longest.

How tragic... I can't believe how awful loosing a child must be.

Praying for the family, the child, and you. :(

OM gosh I am sooooooooooo sorry. So very very very sad. Will say prayers for the family. Was the baby sleeping on it's stomach?

I am so very, very sorry :(

(And I kinda like the spelling... )

How heartbreaking, I'm so sorry :sad1:. I send many prayers as I truly can't imagine the shock, pain and grief of parents, family, friends :sad2:. May they be granted faith and strength, during these most difficult days. Aleksandr is now one of God's sweet angels in heaven. ^i^

This thread gave me chills.

Prayers to the parents and family. My step-daughter and SIL lost their daughter at 3 months under similar circumstances. It was the worst thing our family has ever gone through and it changed us forever.

I'm sorry for your loss as well.

Such a tragic accident. My thoughts are with the family

So sad! So, she swaddled the baby and put him down to nap on his tummy? I don't understand how else that would happen since a swaddled baby wouldn't be able to turn himself over, would he?

I was told the baby rolled over onto his stomach but was unable to roll over to move from pushing his face on the mattress. No doubt he would've if he was not swaddled. So sad.

Oh Robin, I am so sorry. The family is in my thoughts.:sad1::hug:

That's terrible. I'm so so sorry.

Oh, that is so horrible and so sad. I wish everyone to find the strength they need to get through this. :sad1:

it really happens all the time, sadly it happened to a good friend on mine..

:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: I'm sorry. So incredibly sad. I will keep the mother, father, and family in my prayers.

, that is something that is so hard to deal with. I have a cousin who lost 2 children that way. One was her own daughter and again when she was babysitting her sister's son:eek:, The family was never the same. There were some people who thought it was a fluke and an accident, and some of them think she did it (smothered) both babies due to stress. I will pray for her strength and the courage to turn it over to GOD.:flower3:

I am so sorry to hear this! This happened to a girl I used to work with a few years ago. She actually was taking a nap with the baby, and rolled over on him while they were still asleep and when she woke up he was gone. So sad, and she has lived with the guilt. Its been awful for her. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family!

I have chills. This is so, so sad. My prayers are with everyone involved. :sad1:
