Hi,

We are planning our excursions on our own in Grand Cayman and I was wondering if it is possible to walk to 7 Mile beach from the dock or do you have to take a taxi? What's the best spot to go and what are the charges?

Also, we've purchased a collapsible cooler to take with us and now I'm questioning myself how often will I use it. Any advice on this?

thanks!!

25 days and counting down!!

I think its a bit far to walk. Its doable but I'd say a good one-two miles. To get an idea, check out the webcam as you can see were the cruise ships are in comparision to the beach. The beach does start closer to the ships than this spot but this is a really nice part of the beach

You can actually see the Disney is in today:D

Many people go to Royal Palms Beach Club (Bar,watersports, restrooms etc) but you are charged $5 for entrance and $5 for the chairs I think. Just north of that is a property called Coral Caymanian, there is public beach access on the north end of that property where you can be dropped off by a taxi and follow the path to the beach, free of charge. :Pinkbounc . No chairs or restrooms but I'm sure you could walk into Royal Palms from the beach and use their restrooms if you order a drink from the bar:cool:

Check out the free beaches sections on http://www.caymanislandsdiscounts.com for info on other beach sites. Some maybe to far for taxis and they can be high in Cayman. If you want to check out some thought the island I'd recommend renting a car (Avis offers some great prices) and exploring all over. My Favorite is the Rum Point Area!!! Enjoy

It would be a pretty far walk. We took a cab, I think it was $4 a person. We asked to be dropped off at the Holiday Inn part of the beach. When I e mailed Holiday Inn, they said we could use all their facilities. Beach, pool and chairs but there would be a $5 rental for beach chairs. There wasn't any charge. Bar and restrooms are right there on the beach. Then after that we crossed the street and used the Holiday Inn pool. Huge, clean and refreshing.

Definitely take the cooler, we used it for sodas and snacks. Saves alot of money.

I've done the walk. It is a long one and it can be very very hot. But, it you are up for it, it is an adventure. You could always take a taxi there and get a sense of the distance and then walk back.

Thanks everyone. I think we'll be taking a taxi. Don't think we'll be up for a long walk in the hot sun. Now we just need to decide on the place. We want to do some snorkeling. Does anyone know of a great spot close to shore with a sandy beach??

thanks,
