I think the media blew this way out of proportion. It was a minor issue unrelated to the ride itself. I rode it three times after it reopened that night and didn't know about the fire until the bus ride back to the resort. We knew something had happened in New Fantasyland, but didn't know what at the time.
I agree about the media, but even some guests blew it out of proportion. There was a post about it on Facebook that night and even within the thread there were different stories about how much damage there was.
DH just told me about this right now during breakfast. He read it off the newspaper( a news app on the phone lol)
Which makes me wonder does disney have onsite firefighters? It was a very quick response time and didn't cause a crazy scene( from what I've read.)

Disney does have its own Fire Stations/ Dept.. This was indeed a very minor fire, reported at 2230, and the WDW fire dept. responded and it was declared out at 2300. The attraction reopened at 2400.
Some news today (Dont have a link, I know makes it rumor) was reporting that it would be closed 6-7 months for repairs. I thought that strange, since its widely reported to be open with no issues.
Does the collective brain power on the DIS think it will be closed at some point for fixing the burned decorations, or do you think they will fix it at night since they are so good at night time decorating/landscaping?

I was never more than 1000 yards away from SDMT that night from 8:30-11:30. CM told me it was down because we had mentioned we were heading that way after the fireworks and had an FP+. Completely business as usual at MK and we never knew anything was amiss. When we got back to the resort around midnight, my buddies back home were commenting on my facebook SDMT photos that it was good I got to "experience it before it burnt down." It was down a bunch Saturday (even before the fire) and Sunday.
