Any thoughts on how this dedication event might affect crowds at MK? I can't seem to find any detailed information about what the dedication event will consist of.

My only planned day at MK during my upcoming brief visit is May 2.

I had THE EXACT same question! We will also be there on the 2nd, and I am a little nervous of the crowds. We plan on going to MK one of the first days we are going to be there, and will see fantasyland then...but who wants to go to MK and NOT see Fantasyland due to crowds?

Here is the current "late openings" as listed on the Disney site.:)

Dumbo the Flying Elephant----May 2----12PM-10PM
The Barnstormer----May 2----12PM-10PM
Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid----May 2----12PM-10PM
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh----May2----12PM-10PM

New Fantasyland will be "slammed" that afternoon after the Dedication, but later in the day,I don't think it will be any worse than "normal".:)

That is the "dedication" day.:)

It is "expected" to be in Soft Openings before then.:)

Can you clarify what you mean by "soft opening" - does this mean that Disney makes no promises but that if you're lucky and in the park before May 2, you MAY see that it's open and get to ride it?

So would a FP lunch at BOG around 1:00pm on May 2nd be a good or bad idea? (I already have the FP).

I was hoping it would be fun to be part of the experience?

Probably a good idea if you want to eat on that day at bog queues will be bad I expect.
We have one for 11.30am. I think getting to the restaurant pass the crowds of people may be "fun".

I am having similar concerns about the 2nd at MK. I am considering flipping my plan around and doing MK on May 4th (Sunday) instead. However this is an EMH day (we are offsite) so wonder if this will be worst than the 2nd.

Thoughts?

Marc

Hmmm..so my brilliant plan to do Fantasyland early is completely out the window :scared:

Who actually attends this event? I saw posts about the invitations so it sounds like people who are invited will be able to ride but the rest of us wouldn't be able to ride until after noon probably???

I checked easywdw and touring plans--neither has made any changes to expected crowd levels

Josh at easywdw has specificaly said he doesn't expect the dedication ceremony to significaly impact MK on May 2nd. The only pain is the ride closures and the mass of people that will be hanging around new Fantasyland during and after the ceremony itself.

Ack! I will have to go back and look for that! I checked but didn't immediately see anything related to my question. Thanks!

He had replied to my own question in the forums there :) I'll be heading to MK on May 2nd too and was also concerned :p

There is a chance they may have the area blocked off to only invited guests. I have been in a park before when they have had an area blocked off for a special event and you could not even get close. I know many media outlets were invited and got special tickets to ride it.

We also have FP for BoG about the same time. At first I was kind of excited to be in this mix as it's our arrival day and we don't usually do much that day anyway. Now, I'm a little worried about this. I can be patient with the crowds and chaos, the rest of my family I'm not so sure about and I just don't want to start the trip off on a bad note.

Sure hope a FP to BoG counts 'cause I'm planning to be in that area with lots of others wanting to have lunch :crowded:

Just popping in to say we were planning on MK on May 2nd as well, also with the BOG FP. I also have E&A. Sounds like it might be a good day to avoid Fantasyland except for the FPs.

We have BoG FP for lunch too.....and someone else noted the late opening times for several of the Fantasyland attractions so my guess is THOSE areas will be closed off until the event is over. I'm wondering if SDMT will be open to the rest of the crowd AFTER the event and how they would manage crowd control....just thinking of the ridiculous lines for Anna & Elsa at Epcot.
