Setting up new DVC account online

I received my membership number for my resale purchase today. When I called in to get my activation code, the CM told me not to use any email or username I've used anywhere else on a Disney site. When I go to set up my account, it's asking me if I want to link my DVC membership to an existing Disney account. Why exactly wouldn't I want to link it (why would the CM say that)? What do most people do - create a separate account, or link their existing Disney account? By existing account, I mean the one I booked past trips on.
 
We were told to use the same email address for all Disney accounts. In fact once DVC changed our email address on file and IT had to wipe all of our Disney accounts and had us select a new email address which they applied to all Disney accounts.

I would call them back to confirm and if necessary, talk to a supervisor to confirm.

Thanks Bill. Took your advice and called back. This CM said the first CM told me the exact opposite of what I should do. So, I went ahead and used my existing account.

Good to know, you will find that Disney makes more mistakes than one would expect based on their reputation. With time you will know more than most CM's and will learn when to side step MS and who to talk to to get things done.
