Setting up a 2nd MDE account

I have a MDE account but no one else in my family does. I plan for everyone. My kids are now adults and 2 of the 4 are married. We have an upcoming trip for all 8 of us, staying onsite in DVC in 3 separate units. I am anticipating needing to split my group into 4+4 for a couple of ADR's to get better availability. We will need a 2nd MDE, correct? Will I be able to set another one up and log in as the other person using my email? (None of my family will care if I "impersonate" them. They are all happy for me to plan.) Any advice appreciated.

I don't have any experience with this but my guess is you'll need a different email address. I'm planning on doing this for my upcoming trip with 8 people by logging in under my husband's email (and setting up an MDE account for him).

During or Disney trip in 2019 we traveled with some other relatives. What seemed the least complicated for planning purposes was to have each ROOM with their own MDE account. One person can still make dinner reservations for everyone eating together as long as you are linked as 'friends' but I don't recall the exact term Disney uses. There wasn't any advantage to have multiple MDE accounts within the same room. Someone else can access your MDE account as long as you provide them your password. Worked fine for us.

If splitting up for dinner, we found that one person could not have multiple ADR's for the same date/time. I assume this prevents people from making a bunch of ADR's just because they can't decide where to eat. Not sure if that is still true, but something to consider for your planning. When we all ate at the same place, one person made the ADR for our entire party and it worked out fine.

I agree that doing it all in one is optimal. However, I do have a back up plan to use my husbands MDE account if I can't find an 8 person ADR and have to split into two groups. Unfortunately the portion of our trip that there are 8 of us are the days we're trying for Space 220, Garden Grill, Oga's, and Sci-Fi so that makes it most challenging.

It makes the most sense for my husband to get his own MDE since he and I travel 2-3 times a year and my kids are rarely there. If DH and I are in the same room, would both of us be able to make a reservation for 4 people at the same restaurant/time if we don't put in any additional names on the ADR? Or do I need to make an account for one of the kids in a different room in order to make 2 simultaneous reservations?

It is my understanding that if you don't add additional names you can both make reservations. The suggestion I've seen is that you can actually search for the ADR on your MDE account but then when it says who will manage? It will default to you but assign your DH instead and don't add any other names. Then, search again from your account and when you find the second reservation, put yourself in as the one who manages it.

Interesting. I just tried this. When I first tried to reserve on the app, I was not able to change the managing guest's name. The app would only allow me to make an ADR under my name. Then I logged into my account on my computer and I was able to select my husband as manager and make a reservation at 12:15 then make another one under my name at 12:30. They both show on my MDE app.

That's great that you got it to work on your computer! I'm still a while away from being able to try it myself.
