Day 10—Monday, December 15, 2008
If you want to see what Mousefest is all about, read about my afternoon
After a quick breakfast in the room, I met Goofy4Tink to walk to Epcot. We joined the masses to walk to Soarin’. I think everyone and their aunt Margaret was heading to Soarin’. There was a very annoying woman walking in near us. Before we even hit the fast pass machines, I found that I hated this woman. Now, I’m not a hateful person, but this woman was extremely annoying. Fortunately, time has made me forget some of the things she did, I do remember how she cut across four lanes of people so that she could high five the cast members with the Mickey hands. She cut right in front of me, causing me to just about slam into her. She was rambling on to Goofy4TInk as well.
After grabbing some fast passes for Soarin’ we went over to ride Test Track and Mission Space. We also browsed around Mouse Gears for a while.
We had some time before we were meeting our friends for lunch, so we took rides on the Gran Fiesta Tour, and the Maelstrom.
We then headed over to Nine Dragons, where we were meeting KristaTX and her husband Todd, WebmasterKathy, Towncrier and his wife Sue and daughter Sara. This lunch was somewhat impromptu for a Disney gathering at Mousefest. Usually, the reservations are made months in advance, but we decided to go to lunch the day before, and WebmasterKathy only decided to join us minutes before our reservation time.
The meal at Nine Dragons is one of my favorite memories from the trip. We had some great food, and shared lots of laughs. We all practiced our Chinese letters on our placemats, and every seemed to enjoy their meals. I started off with the pot stickers, which were excellent, and served with a yummy ginger sauce. For my entrée, I ordered the General Tso’s Chicken, which was served piping hot, and had a nice spicy kick to it.
KristaTX, who normally eats about four bites at a meal, surprised everyone at our table by eating her entire meal of honey chicken! You know the food is good at a restaurant when Krista cleans her plate.
When we got out of the restaurant, we posed for a group picture in front of the restaurant. Mushu came out while we were there, so we also got a picture with him.
Goofy4Tink said goodbye to us to do some shopping in the world showcase, while the rest of us headed over to ride the Maelstrom. It sure is fun to ride this ride with a pack of Disney Internet Vikings.
We then headed over to the Gran Fiesta Tour. While we were in Mexico, we
saw the Three Kings, so Kathy, Sue, Sara, and I had our picture taken with them. I asked them who was holding the gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
We also saw a teenage boy wearing a birthday pin, so we were about to sing happy birthday to him, when his “twin brother” said it was his birthday too. The boys, Tommy and Justin, took a seat on the pavement while we sang happy birthday to him.
We then headed over to Mouse Gears, as Kathy desperately needed to do some shopping. WebmasterKathy, Towncrier, and I tried on the lime green Mickey ears.
To me, this afternoon was the perfect example of what Mousefest is all about. It was just an afternoon of great friends enjoying each other’s company, and just having fun. Afternoons like this one is the reason why I return to Mousefest each December.
I then headed back to the Boardwalk. I spent some time packing up my suitcases and Owner’s Locker, as I would be leaving the next day. It’s amazing how much stuff I accumulated on this trip. I bought way too many big items. Even with the extra suitcase I bought, I don’t know how I managed to fit everything into my bags.
I then headed over to the Magic Kingdom, where I met Goofy4Tink. We went to the Columbia Harbor House for dinner, but I can’t remember what I ate that night (probably chicken strips and fries).
We went on the Haunted Mansion, the Carousel, and Mickey’s Philharmagic.
We then decided to find a spot to watch the fireworks. We wound up watching them from behind the castle. It was a very neat experience watching the fireworks from this vantage point. Although the light level was a bit high, it was very cool to watch the fireworks from here, as they shoot off from both in front and behind you. It was almost like being in the middle of a fireworks war.
It was extra magic hours night, and we were going to stay, but it was too crowded to enjoy, so we headed back our resorts. I was going to go into Jellyrolls, but wound up changing my mind. I was feeling pretty run down from the cold, and all of the craziness of Mousefest. I finished packing up, and went to bed.
