Seriously? $10.75 for the bicycle rental?

I guess the price increases of the cabana have been more obvious ($499 to $549, and now $580). But, I was looking at the bicycle rental fee on CC and saw it is up to $10.75. Maybe because not too long ago it was $5 and even recently was $6, the $10.75 seems a fairly big hike. We rented bicycles previously for our family of four for $24. Now it will be $43. Oh well, what can you do?

Wow. I agree, that seems way out of line for a bike. You do get just about guaranteed availability, and they are VERY loose on timing you, but still....we've been paying $6 for so long. Seems like they would be free!

The prices for the rentals on Castaway Cay are still the same as before ($10.00 for bikes; $549 for a family beach cabana, etc).

What happened was the Bahamas has now added a 7.5% VAT on all goods and services purchased in the Bahamas, effective 1/1/2015.

The prices have gone up, from $6 to $10 to $10.75. Of the new rate .75 may be tax, but the price still has gone up even since it was $10. You pay more out of your pocket than previously, regardless of the reason.

Last time we rented bikes they were $6.

Sorry, I can only report that when we cruised last September bikes were $10.00. Don't know when that price increase was.

I know they were $6 in Nov. 2013, but increased to $10 sometime in 2014 - obviously before Sept. :thumbsup2 I also noticed the increase from $10 to $10.75 and wondered about that, so interesting to know it due to a newly applied tax! I believe that float and tube rentals also increased from $6 to $10 at the same time the bikes did. Found it - increased in Jan 2014 http://www.everythingmouse.com/disney-castaway-cay-cabanas-price-increase.

We're cruising in August and I'm wondering if the CC bike reservations typically "sell-out" (they're still available now). I think we'd like to ride bikes, but it may be hard to pry the kids away from the water, so I don't want to lock myself into a bike rental if I don't have to. Thoughts?

There's no need to reserve ahead of time. Just rent once you are on CC.

When we went in March the bikes did sell out ahead of time and we could not walk up and rent.

the bikes selling out is the reason they are over 10.00 now.and if they continue to sell out they will go even higher.

They were definitely only $6 last time we cruised. So much for cheap family activities. :confused3

Wait. I thought everything was free on castaway cay? You have to pay for bikes to ride AND tubes to float on? IS anything free???

I've read that if you go, basically, first thing you may run into the likelihood of them "selling out". But if you wait until later in the day, there are bikes. That's once people figure out that riding a bike all day isn't really all it's cracked up to be. Especially those of us who don't ride them that much.

Wow. Big letdown. (Haven't cruised to CC yet obviously)

Thanks for info
Well, the beach is very nice. Oh, Pelican Plunge (water slides) is included, and there are water guns you can use (fastened down). They often also do events - like crab races. We think it's nice. We were there 3 times last September and one stop we rented snorkel gear, but other than that, just enjoyed the place.

Food, and there's a drink station like on the ship.

And soft serve ice cream.

Chairs, umbrellas, and Pelican Plunge are all free. You have to pay to rent snorkel gear, but if you have your own gear, the life vests (required when snorkeling) are free to use.

It's cool. I'm sure I'll like it if I get there-just initial shock from what I had expected :)
