Serious camera question

Hi:

We are taking our kids on their first Disney trip/Disney cruise in April. I have a Canon 2Ti that works fine for t-ball games and birthday parties, but is starting to slow down. I am going to rent a camera and one lens for our trip (I have a few street lenses and prime lenses that I would use at home, but don't want the bother of multiple lenses for the trip). I'm looking for suggestions as to which body/lens combo would be best.

Couple of things: I'd prefer to stick with Canon because I've used it for years and don't want to try to learn a new camera for this trip.

Also, please don't tell me to use my iPhone or point and click, etc. Part of the fun for me is take/frame photos. I'm not looking for a philosophical discussion on the role of cameras on vacation--just serious suggestions/experiences with DSLR products. Thank you for understanding!

I'm thinking the Canon 60D and a zoom 24-105mm lens. Thanks for your opinions!

You might want to post this on the DIS Photography Board HERE.

And, :welcome: to the DISboards, PHamrick!

Thanks for the info! Didn't even know there was a photography board. Will post there too.

I have a Sony and I love it!! It did take me awhile to learn what I needed and at times I am still experimenting...Good Luck with whatever camera you decide on. Mine is heavy and at times cumbersome, no extra lens.

The 60D is rather large. I would rent the 70D (newer and improved over the 60D) or rent the t5i, t4i or SL1. For a lens get something that starts in the 16-18 range.

18-55
18-135

avoid something that starts with 24 or 28 as that is not wide enough on a crop body,

I would be just as happy with the SONY RX100 which can be found on ebay from big value inc for around 400

If you are open to other brands the Fuji x-E1 or x-E2 with 18-55 lens is smaller and nice as well.

If you're going to rent - Canon 6D and the 24-70L or the 24-105

I came from a Canon T2i/T4i (upgraded for video purposes) and sold all my camera equipment and went out to DW over Christmas and used the Canon 6D with the 16-35 f2.8L and was very VERY pleased with the results.

The downside was the 16-35 lacked range for things like watching shows at the MK Castle standing from the Hub. I got gorgeous pictures of the castle lighting but I couldn't zoom in on Mickey and gang talking! (But my primary interest was landscapes and low light photography so I knew that going in...)

Also if you're going to do video, especially the fireworks shows, I recommend The Rode Stereo Video Mic PRO which does a fantastic job of capturing the bass of the fireworks.

When I'm travelling and don't want to be changing lenses back and forth, I use an 18-300mm lens. There is a very slight trade-off in image quality using a single lens with this much range, but the convenience of not having to change back and forth between an 18-55mm and 55-300mm lenses is worth it. I'm a Nikon user, but I'm sure you could get a comparable Canon set-up.

I am a Nikon user, just wanted to say I think your lens choice would be ideal!
