Hi all

I am going back again in December! After a year exactly! and cant wait x
We have decided to stay at sequoia lodge again but i need some help..

I have heard that the rooms are refurbished etc?
Last year we had a standard room and it was in the main building ( 2nd floor)
My question is are the standard rooms the same?
as i keep seeing them advertised as separate lodges and am now totally confused!

Thanks guys

The standard rooms are generally in the lodges surrounding the main building. You have to pay extra for a room in the main building, these are called Montana rooms.

I stayed in one of the lodges in June and found it perfectly adequate, was a very nice walk from the lodge to the main building.

The standard rooms at SL have always been the ones in the lodges not in the main building, the main building rooms have always been referred to as Montana rooms, this all changed last year though during the renovations, when the lodges were renovated first and so became the more desirabe rooms.
Now that the hotel rooms are also renovated the lodge rooms are standard again and the main hotel rooms are the Montana ones.

Ohh ok thank you.
Last year we booked standard and were in the main building..overlooking the lake.
Thats why i got confused!. ;)

Last year whilst they were refurbishing the lodges any one who booked a standard room was moved to the main building that's why last year you would of had a main building room ;)

Indeed! We had a standard room in the main building to in november 2011. ;)
Haven't stayed in the lodges yet in the winter/when it's cold/rainy I think I'd be happy to have payed a bit extra and not have to walk trough the cold to get to breakfast and stuff. Especially if I had little kids, I'd be going for the Montana rooms.
I always like being able to go to breakfast without backpacks and coats and all and to just pick those up afterwards and head to the park then. :)

Thank you..yes think might upgrade to a room in main building last year was ideal! The lodges sound nice but dont fancy the walk..is it very far then?..i cant rmbr even seeing the lodges last time.

Our lodge was nearer the facilities than our hotel room and had a much nicer view! I've opted for a lodge in March and I've requested Yellowstone again which is literally a 2 minute mostly undercover walk to the front of the hotel plus it was closer to walk back to in the evening than the main building :)

we're going in March also and staying in a lodge. How do you request a specific lodge?

Hi

We are going from Dec 5th to Dec 8th to the SL for the first time, standard room.
I'd like to ask a related question: I read in several forums that the Yellowstone lodge is a good one to choose.
May the Big Sur a better choice, maybe asking for a view to the Rio Grande river?

I expect you ask for your preferred lodge when you check-ín, is it so?

It is not our 1st time in the resort, but the 1st time staying in the SL.

Thanks.

We were in Yellowstone last November and it was ideal, a lovely refurbed room and only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Yes we had to take our coats and bags with us to breakfast but it meant that we could head straight from the breakfast room to the bus stop and it really wasn't that much of a pain. I'd recommend emailing guest relations a couple of days before to see if you can put in a request for Yellowstone lodge if you're not going to stay in the main building.

I would email about a week before requesting which cabin you would prefer and also ask at check in.

I put the request in when I booked, they always say they can't guarantee them, like requesting adjoining rooms etc., but have never let me down :)

You can see on the map, that you come out of Yellowstone and walk around to the front of the hotel and you can also see the small pathways coming from the lakeside to the lodges handy if you like to walk to the park and back, and of course you're right by the swimming pool :)

Found another map here of the interior layout, when you come in through reception head down the hall, past the Redwood Bar to the stairs which take you down to the lower floor where the restaurants are.

and here's the covered walkway.

Welcome to the DIS XaviZixxeR.:wave2: Big Sur looks like a good choice too, though I don't know how much river your would see as it's pretty wooded round there. If you want to try and get either of those lodges then email Guest Relations with your request about a week before you go, and with a bit of luck... :)

Jill - thank you so much for posting those hotel maps. :goodvibes I've tracked the source down and I'm planning to add them to the hotel stickies. :thumbsup2

thanks for sharing. I'll be calling them anyway, so will try to ask. Maybe it will work.

Thanks to all for all the info! And for the welcome :)

I still think that the Big Sur might be a better choice than the Yellowstone, but I can't find anyone that has been there... Several posters (including some from other forums have been in the Y but none in the BS...).
It seems that there is a covered walkway between the BS and the pool lodge, then another one to the main building. That may be handy if it rains...

Maybe I'll give it a try. As we are going only for 2 days (arriving the 5th on the evening, leaving the 8th just after an early breakfast), we will not be spending a lot of time in the room (hopefully ;) )

Ok I know this is going to be a silly question... But what are the lodges?
Are they actual separate lodge or are they like a big lodge with several rooms?
When i think of lodge i think o a log cabin type place with a fire etc which i know it cant be???
Thankyou

The buildings that are not the main one. If you take a look at the hotel map in the previous page, you'll see six buildings on the bottom right. The topmost on the right is the swimming pool lodge, the other 5 are rooms, as jillrobinson explained.
