I decided to tackle the overflowing stack of scrap magazines and tear out the layouts I like to put into a binder and recycle the rest of the mags...

and I JUST found the first scrap mag I think I ever bought! :)
and I have to tell you it is sooooooo funny to read through - i don't think I can tear this one up I think I have to keep it!

I am talking
deckle scissors (AAAAUUUGGGGH) :rotfl2:
The crimper was cutting edge  I never did get one of those
and the big technique was cutting the people out of the pictures (ya know all aruond the hair so they have helmet head - lol) :rolleyes1

Oh and I see that the first issue of Making Memories was scrapbooking, pop-up primer :confused3 and stained glass design in 1997
didn't become a monthly til Dec 1998 :earsboy:

LOL!

I know what ya mean- I have the premiere issue of Creating Keepsakes and wow.. what a difference about 7-10 years makes... Most of the layouts will make you laugh and you wonder *how* they ever made it into the mag...

Wonder what itll all be like in 7-10 more years

Ummm - just curious....What's wrong with deckle scissors? I'd never seen them until this fall when the person teaching me Fraktur (PA Dutch/German folk art) told me that she used them when doing a floating mat.

They work for that art form & I thought they might make some of the edges more interesting. Is it just the deckle that you don't like, or is it all of the decorative edgers?

Just curious...

well when I look back at the pages I did with all the different decerative edgers where that was ALL you did was use those for the pictures, mats, and then handwritten journalling and they aren't the pages I am the most proud of thats for sure!

ahh yes those wonderful sissors! Have many of them....gave to DD!
I don't mind them for mats but I cut the actual pictures! :earseek: and not even in a uniform shape! But just around the main people in the pictures!
Everyone once in awhile I will still just cut out one person. :earboy2: But very rarely. I am now totally square, rectangle occassional oval or circle.
It woudlnt' surprise me if some very cleaver person down the road comes up with some new way to use those sissors and it will come back into style! :rotfl:
This is the one reason I wont' redo my first few books. I like to see my change, progression and style. It freezes time in more ways than one. I also have stopped cropping all of my pictures so tight. You loose what is in the back ground. The room, the furniture or signs and such!
Just my opinion. I think I also want to start taking pictures of our cars. Think 25 years from now how odd they will look.

Thanks for explaining. I was truly curious as I've seen people use decorative scissors for one of the mats (usually the middle one) and I kind of liked it. I don't think I'd like it if both mats & the picture were all edged.

We have pix of all our cars. My/our first car - a Pontiac convertible that was already on its 3rd owner before it came to me! Our next one was a '67 Dodge Dart that DS called our patchwork car.....two-tone blue, unpainted metal sheets riveted over rust, that rust colored rust-cover compound...I forget it there were others or not. Too funny! :rotfl:
