We have a good pin code and have exisiting reservations for a woods view bunk bed room in September at the Wilderness Lodge. We have changed our mind and wanted to reserve a cabin at the campground. I called reservations this morning and they are all sold out of cabins in my pin code. :( It's really upsetting when you had your mind set on changing. They want too much extra for the cabins so I kept my exisiting. My question is, is it possible that a cabin spot will come open if anyone with a pin changes their reservations? Has that ever happened to anyone before? Thanks ......Keri

did you tell them you had a pin first?
sometimes people will say __ is not available so you keep the higher priced res
not saying thats the case here or that disney would do it but i know of it happening places

so i would call and inquire about a cabin, if it is free then give them your pin and see what they say
if it works cancel the first after everything else is set

It doesn't matter if the pin was mentioned first or not. The cabins can show availability at rack rate, but that doesn't mean it's available with a discount or pin code. Disney gives discounts/pins to fill rooms, which means there are only so many rooms available when it comes to discounts. So if a particular resort/room category is already getting booked up, Disney will see no need to offer those particular rooms under a discount/pin.

OP.....I would keep checking as I have had pins before where my first choice room category wasn't available at the time I booked, but did become available later on, so you never know :).

Exactly what mickeynut1 said. You have to give them the pin code first before they can tell you if there is availability or not. There are only so many rooms in each category available for each pin code or discount. So there may be available at the resort/category at rack rate but not availability with the specific discount.

I would still call everyday, but I have heard on these boards that once a discounted room is cancelled it does not go back out as discounted but as a regular priced room. Not sure if this is 100% true. Maybe someone else knows.
I would rather stay at WL b/c at the cabins you have to take an internal bus to get to the park buses.

Personally, I'd keep WL res. It's a stunning resort. And you're close to all the resort ammenities as it's all in 1 building. The Cabins are removed and you'd have to drive to everything around the resort.
Me, I like going down the elevator and walking out to the pool, beach, boat dock, etc.

I agree with everything the pp mentioned plus have you considered the added cost to rent a golf cart for your stay at the cabins? I understand it can be very inconvient to get around without one.

I don't think this is totally true....it might be for pins. :confused3 but for AP rates it isn't. In May we were trying to add a night at BC and could not get a room with an AP rate. A week before we were supposed to arrive rooms opened up under the AP rate and we were able to extend our vacation instead of have to switch hotels.

OP good luck! Hopefully something opens up!

Well, here's something to throw in the mix - maybe Fate is watching out for you.

You are traveling during the peak of hurricane season. If a hurricane is headed for central Florida (the odds are against it, but it does happen) they will evacuate FW, including the cabins, for guest safety. They will not evacuate WL. At WL, you may even be able to walk freely within the resort instead of being cooped up in just one room like the FW evacuees would (as they have taken them in the past primarily to mod and value resorts, with exterior corridors).

You will still have easy access to the recreational pursuits available at FW, but if the worst happens, I think you'll be happier and safer at WL.

I love the cabins, but I only stay in them in the winter or spring, when it's cool enough to walk from place to place in the campground and there's no risk of hurricanes.

If you do stay at FW, you do not have to rent a golf cart to get around. The buses have always been very efficient at getting me where I need to be if I want to ride instead of walk. They can be fun, and they can be convenient, but they aren't a necessity.

Crossing my fingers for you that something opens up. We are going through the same thing right now. We want to switch but there is little to no availability at any of the resorts for our dates and none at the resort of our choice (POR, POFQ, WL, BC, YC). I'm starting to be concerned that it is going to be packed when we go. I am just going to keep checking everyday.

Thanks for all the information. We have a toddler and the thought of having two rooms and being able to put her to sleep and have some adult time was really appealing. It is our 5 year anniversary and she is really too young for the kids clubs so, I thought alone time while she slept may be our only option. That is why I had changed over to the cabins. However, it is a $600+ budget change for us and I just couldn't pay that much extra. But you guys had a lot of good points. Thanks for the advice as always!

Has you PIN code expired? If so, CRO can't help you. You must speak to Guest Services. CRO's investory will always show unavailable if the PIN code has expired. If you are still interested in making the switch, call and ask to speak with someone in Guest Services. They will be able actually to see whether there is availability at the cabins using your PIN code.

As for switching from WL to the cabins, just my 2 cents, but I would keep the WL reservation. You are a boat ride away from Magic Kingdom. We have stayed at both resorts. Although the cabins are nice for the space, they are very isolated and seem far away from everything. We had both a car and a golf cart when we stayed at the cabins -- and we would not stay there again. We felt staying off-site was actually more convenient.

I just posted this on another thread the other day, but wanted to tell
you to keep trying. I have an upcoming reservation at WL, using a free dining pin. We were able to fly in two days earlier, so I tried to extend my stay. The booking expiration for the pin was a few months back. They told me that there were no rooms available for the extra two nights, that could be booked using a pin. I figured there was no way that would change, tried a few times, then decided to book at another resort for those two nights, with no free dining (couldn't use the pin since it had expired). BUT, called the other day for a totally different reason, and figured it couldn't hurt to ask. That is when they told me a room had opened up, so we were able to extend our stay at WL WITH the free dining for those two days also :-) NEVER hurts to keep trying

OP, have you thought about renting DVC points instead? Because you are getting close to your timeframe, you could get discounted points too.

Basically, if you don't know what I am talking about...
A Disney Vacation Club member (like me, though I don't have extra points) has extra points in their contract that need to be used up. You, a non-DVC member rent the points from that person for your trip. The points can be used towards a studio (normal one room accomodation at a deluxe resort), a one-bedroom (master bed and bath with a living room, full kitchen and washer and dryer), a two bedroom (one bedroom plus studio) or possibly a grand vila (sleeps up to 12 and is two story unit). There is a chance there still may be a one bedroom unit at Wilderness Lodge that would be open during your stay which would accomplish the goal of the seperate areas but allow you to stay at WL.

To do this, you would want to check out the DVC Rent/Trade board here or go to the DVCbyRequest site (Dave owns/operates and is a sponsor on these boards). It may not be any cheaper than your WL reservation with code, but may be better than the cabin at FW.

I was told this exact thing by a CM when trying to reserve a Kids Free value room for our 2010 trip. But, as we know, CMs can be wrong...

I posted the other day bc were going through the same thing and I checked randomly on Sunday afternoon in passing the computer and French Quarter was available. I called and they told me they weren't showing the availability but he was able to call guest services and sure enough...it was available! Don't give up...keep checking everyday:goodvibes

Have you considered scheduling a date night and getting Kid's Nite Out to babysit? That would be considerably less than $600, and you could have a really nice evening.

My kids have absolutely adored their baby sitters the two times we have done this. :lovestruc

we are going through the same thing trying to add a addl night at bwi and all moderates are completely booked only thing left at a lower rate is all star sports

I must have done something wrong. I called my normal 407 wdisney and asked to speak with Guest Services. They transferred me to someone at the actual Hotel who said he could not help with reservations and sent me back to the same number. So do I actually call reservations and ask to speak to someone in Guest Services?
