We're just now starting to plan our 2017 trip and we're looking at a September/October window. We'd be looking for 5 nights thurs-mon and we're trying to avoid any school vacations, holidays, run events, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
:yay:

Have you tried some of the websites like easywdw.com or **************? They offer wonderful advice! We normally go in Sept....but don't mind the high temps and humidity.

There are a couple of things to consider:

1) crowds are really low around Labor Day
2) that's because it is at the height of the hurricane season - though the odds for hitting on a specific day is small. It has happened though.
3) It will be hot
4) Food and Wine starts on September 14th this year so expect something like that for next year too.
5) F&W will bring in locals and foodies. Much of it is centered in Epcot, but there will be bleed off to other parks
6) The "free dining" promo blocked out all of October and the first half of November.

If you can handle the heat, the first couple of full weeks in September will likely have the lowest crowds.

I will second PrinceOfPeace's recommendation. The two sites will give you a lot of information. If you don't want to have to search through the websites, you can buy there book which is specifically designed to walk you through the planning process. I have been to Disney many times, but still bought the book. It's a slightly different view than some other guide books and presented with a bit of sarcasm which I enjoy.

Great points! We are hoping to go 09/05-09/10...which is exactly what you mentioned.

I went in October last year, and while I enjoyed the Food and Wine festival and the Halloween decorations, many places seemed to be shut for work/maintenance so I was a little disappointed. Crowds and weather were both reasonable.

The trip my husband and I went sans kids, was the second week of September. Weather was perfect (had one downpour in Epcot, but we found a table in the little wine bar in Italy), never needed a restaurant reservation and lines were relatively short. With this said, our other trips have always been late October or late December and even those times were not that bad to me.

The first few weeks of Sept are my favorite weeks to go. They have lower crowds, though the heat & humidity is HIGH, and you'll experience thunderstorms during the day that may close attractions/cancel/delay performances. They USUALLY pass within 20 minutes though.
-f&w makes things more crowded with locals
-days that mnsshp goes, mk is usually rather dead during the day
-free dining is another huge bonus, though it does make the restaurants crowded, and I know people have harder times getting their specific ADRs because of it, but I've never had a problem.
-Check out undercovertourist & easywdw to check their crowd calanders, they provide it by the week, and by the day, I usually compare both with flight prices and pick from there

Both September and October can be very hot and humid. I've switched to late February because I don't like the super-hot weather.
