September Halloween activities

Going to Disneyland in September and I am confused about the Halloween activities they start mid month. Is the Halloween parade and Halloween fireworks the entertainment on a regular day? Are the characters dressed in Halloween costumes, and the decorations all lit up even when it isn't a night of the Halloween Party? We haven't been to Disneyland in 10 years and I would like to know people's opinions of the decorations etc. Is it worth going when the place is ready for Halloween or am I going to be disappointed it isn't the traditional magic? The Halloween Parade (Mickey's Costume Cavalcade) and the special fireworks (Halloween Screams) are only shown at Mickey's Halloween Party. The regular parade (Soundsational) and fireworks (RDCT?) are shown during regular hours (and fireworks only on Fri. - Sun.). In my opinion, the Halloween decorations are fantastic -- really exceptional. The creative team does a wonderful job every year for Halloween Time at DL. And the holiday overlay for HM (Nightmare Before Christmas) is fabulous! Whether you are disappointed depends totally on what you expect to see. You can find many photos from trip reports from Halloween Time last year -- those may help you decide if that time of year is right for you.

Thanks for your answer. We don't have kids going with us, and I am looking forward to the Halloween decorations, and really am OK with the regular parade and fireworks. I think I will set my trip to a weekend later, to make sure Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain are open. The rides are really what we are looking forward to and have waited a very long time to be able to go back that it would be a huge disappointment if the big ones weren't open. Thanks again!
