September grand california

I know that we are taking our annual trip in september, I've stayed many times at the disneyland hotel but not at the Grand. We CAN qualify for a military discount cuz of my mom, so we want to try the grand. Last year I waited to May to call and really had a hard time getting the dates we wanted i don't know why cuz I've always called 3 to months before and had no problem, So how far out should u make reservations do rates stay stable this far out I was thinking calling in march. Also any reports on how the grand is in the morning going into downtown disney with the small security ck point. Any advice would be helpful.

I called May 8 , 2015 and made reservations for GCH for April 30- May 5 ,2016 so about a year in advance. It locked in the rates at the time I called for the whole year.This was for Dapper Day. When you call tell them to add your Admission tickets to the room. This locks in todays price as well .

If there is a convention or conference at that time rooms could be booked out before 3 months out easily. Check the 2017 calendar of events thread here on the DIS (just use the search bar) to see if you have potential conflicts with big events coming to Anaheim.
ETA: I wouldn't hesitate to book a Sept trip now btw. As long as it is fully refundable you don't have anything to lose.
