This is our first fall trip, and I could use some help from the more experienced folks here. Our FP window opens tomorrow and I'm back and forth on what to do.
We plan on spending 8 days in the parks. Our plan right now is about half the days do RD, go back (WL) for naps/showers/rest after lunch, then out to another park for dinner and evening hours. On the other days we plan on getting up late, doing lunch and afternoon at one park, and then hitting another park for fireworks, rides, and evening activities.
I've read a few of the trip reports from last year, and a fair number of the "when should I go?" threads, and one of the big selling points of September was the low crowds. The only day that isn't between a 1-3 on the crowd calendar estimate during our trip is the first day of F&W (and we don't plan on being in Epcot that day).
With that in mind, I'm not really sure how to spend our FP. We are two adults, and there are a few rides in each park that always fill up that we really want to do, and I know FP will be worth it for those (TSMM, the Mountains, Soarn'). But there are also some character photos I would really love to get, and I'm wondering if some of those photos ops would be better uses of a few FPs over the course of the week.
Many of the FP threads are really detailed (and awesome!)- but focused on how to maximize FP when crowds are larger. Are the reports of low crowds and short lines exaggerated? Is it a waste to use FPs for a character photo during that time? With our plan to hop parks each day are we better off using our FP in the evening to secure rides we know we want? Or in the morning to max out our rides (that we also know we want) and then just hope we can grab one for that evening park hop?
Thanks so much! Y'all are an awesome information fountain of all things Disney.
