September 22, 2012 Fantasy Eastern "From Fantasyland to the Fantasy"

Hi! We are doing a tour with Bernard on St. Maarten. A little bit of everything...sights, shopping, beach, and Maho (where the airplanes fly right overhead). On St. Thomas, we were going to book the Kon Tiki excursion, but I have seen some not-so-lovely reviews lately about heading back more towards the booze cruise, so maybe that is why Disney pulled it? Anyway, in my research, we came across Fury charters...a sailboat that also goes to turtle cove to snorkel. We still haven't officially booked that privately, but are leaning in that direction.

Hey,

Have you checked out DCL's Turtle Cove excursion? We did this when we went on our last Royal Caribbean cruise and we loved it. It is pretty much the same deal as Fury, but a little less $$. We usually don't book through the cruise lines for our excursions, but this is one I'd recommend. Check out doubloon.com .

Hi all, we are all booked! I didn't know if anyone has some good ideas for shore excursions on st Thomas ans st marteen for a family with 3 kids under 4, with the youngest being 6 months (she might stay on ship) but the older two are 2 and 4. Thanks

Welcome! I've added you to our roll call. :cool2: Let me know if you'd like me to add any other info about your cruising party. Be sure to check out post one of this thread if you haven't already.

Haven't been around much lately, but we're still with you. Youngest ds is having surgery tomorrow (to patch a big hole in his palate-- which leaves gap between his mouth and nose). It'll be at least his 11th surgery in 8 years, 9 of which happened in the US to remediate/correct things missed in China.

If you can, please send Alex some prayers/pixie dust/good thoughts.

I know we won't have the hideous post-op issues we had on the last cruise some of us had together (we didn't know if we'd be going like four days ahead because his urologist was a jerk who didn't believe that a mother could dx a kid who had a fever for weeks, and whose kidney tube was still leaking out the back after three weeks had a serious issue-- he didn't admit it until our wonderful peditrician ripped him a new butthole on the phone without ever raising her voice (I wish I could learn this skill :lmao:)

So asking for prayers, pixie dust, good thoughts for him as this is a serious procedure involving a transplant of bone from his hip, and cadaver bones (hope he gets anti-zombie meds :lmao:) to his palate. The only issue I see (and I've dealt with a few post surgery, serious recoveries, including some when dh was deployed to Afghanistan) is that it'll be hard for him to get around for a while. I have every confidence in this med team (vs the urology team which sucked), but you never know.

Thanks.

Gladys' is a restaurant that a friend told me about. He goes to St. John almost every year and said that we should definitely try to lunch at Gladys' if we can fit it in. I have also seen it mentioned in other threads and I believe in the Passporter.

Plus...my grandmother's name was Gladys, so just another reason to try to go!

Cool! I might have to check it out!

Welcome aboard! I see you are from Sarasota...we are in North Port. So, hi neighbor!

Please let us know how it all goes. I will keep him the family and doctors in my prayers.

Welcome to all who have recently joined us. This should be a great cruise.

On a not so positive note. The only working laptop in the home is no longer working. Thank God for my iPhone. Just really do not have the money for this right now. Got to run. Lois

We actually did look at Disney's excursion, but if I remember right, they are ages 5 and up only. Our youngest is only 4, so she could go with us on the Fury. Is the disney one the one that was in nenner's trip report with the pirate ship?

Unfortunately they are very strict! Last year dd was 5 and couldn't ride - they measure very closely... My dd will be 6 on Sun. and we are constantly measuring her- (she's a peanut) she is maybe a 1/4 short yet but hoping she will grow in the next 3 months- cant bear the disappointment again...wish I had better news for you but the Mickey slide is fun too..

Our daughter is right at 42". It makes me a little nervous that their measurement may differ slightly than mine. If they are wearing water shoes do they make the kids take them off before they measure?

Yes, it's the same one as in her TR. I didn't think about the age thing. We let our little one hang out in the club while we did it. Fury would be good for you then.

I believe they make them take off the water shoes...we are hitting a water park here in south Florida and I will be interested to see how she measures there since many slides are 42" . BTW- hope you didn't get much flooding where you are..My brother works at Tampa General and practically had to take his canoe to work..

Just wanted to join in the fun over here. It will be me (Micki), DH (Eric), DS Mark 3.5yrs and DD Claire 7 months. My parents are also coming.
