Welcome voyager9!!! Another anniversary to celebrate - that's fab!!! :thumbsup2
Let's see, what cruise topic should I bring up? We've talked about excursions, what to wear, WDW stays before and after, tastings (don't forget Margarita Monday), to spa or not to spa, and DIS meets. (I'm sure I've missed some topics.) Hmmm, how about we move to the topic of the kid's clubs. I know that I don't have any kids on the cruise with me, but a number of you will. Those of you that have brought children before, do your kids like the clubs? How much time do they spend there? Do they ever eat dinner in the clubs? Do the teens enjoy the Stack? It's a good thing for me to know as a grandparent too. I am sure that I will be taking my darlings on a cruise in just a few years.
Well, I know my youngest DS is looking forward to frequenting the Stack when we do the NYE cruise in 2008! I think he's hoping to meet up with some young laydeez as he goes to an all-boyz school...

My DD (7) & DS(10) both loved the clubs their first and second cruise. They were 3 & 6 for the first & 5 & 8 for our second cruise. By the third cruise my DS was 9 and was getting a little bored with it. He had more fun hooking up with some friends he met on board and hanging out. We allowed him sign out privledges (which is usually a tough topic to discuss) providing he followed our rules and was respectful & behaved. He had to check in often and never missed a check in. We cruised with 19 people, so he had many eyes on him. Later on in the evenings (usually about 10:00), he did need to check into the club so that we could have a nice evening without worrying about him roaming around the boat with nothing to do. As far as eating in the club, they did eat on occasion there, but were not real thrilled with the selections. They usually gave them specific items at meal time, and with my DD it was OK because she is a basic eater, however my DS loves to try different things, so he usually eats with us (or has enough at the lunch buffet to satisfy him till the next day). This time again my DD will be in the club or with us, Scrapperjill's DD or Threesmiths DD and my DS will probably have signout privledges. He will have just turned 11 three weeks prior to our cruise and she will be three weeks shy of her 8th birthday.

Kathy

Hi Kathy!! So glad to see you:goodvibes !

Welcome Voyager9:wave2:! We're celebrating out 10 year anniversary on board, even though our anniversary actually is this week!

Well, I was trying to keep the cruise a secret from DD, but DH accidentally blurted it out tonight. Even though I tried to make a quick cover, she's not dumb, and no matter how much I deny it, she will still believe we are going. She even asked if she could start a "Kids of the 9/22/07 Magic" thread. I told her she could, but she'd get pretty jealous talking with all the kids that are actually going on the cruise. Somehow I never can suprise that kid!

As far as the kids clubs, DD loved it both cruises, when she was 7 and 8. She will turn 10 in August, so we will probably give her signing out privleges with some serious rules, like AmericanScrapper did. Eating in the clubs? I remember on formal night last cruise, DD and DH begrudgingly got into their formalwear (they do not like dressing up) and when we got downstairs we ran into Scrapperjill's DD. She was heading to the club where they were going to make cookies....needless to say, my DD had chocolate chip cookies for dinner that night while DH and I went to formal night!

Welcome Voyager 9 and family. Glad to have you aboard. :thumbsup2

We have never cruised with our kids or grand kids on our 6 previous Disney Cruises. This is time for Kathy and I to recharge our batteries. Mike

:welcome: Voyager9!
Our group is getting larger by the day! How exciting:banana:

Did I see that right.... we're on page 2??? Noooooo !:headache:

Ann

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome: Voyager9:thumbsup2

Stacy....Tooo funny telling her she could start the kids thread...but she'd get jealous of all the kids actually going :lmao:

My girls have been mixed with the clubs. The first year our oldest DD was 11 so she was in the "lab" which she didn't really care for. She'd go at time if there as an activity she really wanted to do. But she spent alot of time haning out in the statroom...until she met some other girls her age. After that they cruised the ship and had a great time. Sydney our youngest LOVED the kids club the first year. We could hardly drag her out of it. Of course it helped to have ThreeSmiths DD and American Scrappers DD in the clubs as well....together they closed the clubs on MANY nights;) Last cruise...Alexis our oldest was 12 and wanted SOOO badly to go to the stack. But couldn't because of her age. It didn't help that her friend that went with us was old enough to go...but wouldn't go alone...AND she wouldn't go to the lab (that was for "young" kids). Anyways...Alexis once again didn't care a whole lot for the Lab...but did find Ocean Quest to be good. Then Sydney at times liked being in the kids club then other times she didn't.

This year Sydney will be 9 and be in the Lab....She SOOOO badly want's check out privilage. Which at this time I'm not sure about. We actually haven't talked much about it yet. I'm sure once she finds out Kaylee will have check out privilages...she'll REALLY be wanting them. Then...Alexis is totally looking forward to going to the stack. I just hope they have a good turn out of teens so the activites they have listed don't get cancled. I've heard that happens quite a bit. I think with the group of teens in my posse it should be a good start...we'll have 5 (14,14,14,14 and 15) altogether.

Now what about the adult clubs???

Morning everyone! As Ann says, another day closer - not long till we sneak under 5 months! :woohoo:

I meant to mention it the other day but, as other members of our family have become so interested in our September cruise, we're now booked to do the NYE 2008 cruise with the whole family! :woohoo: It's very exciting as we love going away for New Year - we've been to DL and New York in the past and plan to be in Paris this year, so it'll be another fab experience! It's a Western which everyone's pleased about as they're all v keen to sample Key West and Cozumel...

Kathy, Stacy or Sandi, sorry to be so nosy, but what are "sign-out privileges"?

WOW NYE cruise now that sounds fantastic. You must return and give us a trip report on that one for sure.

I am as excited to be going on a 3night cruise in June but my mind is going nuts planning for the June and Sept one. I keep saying to self, just plan for June right now then I will have plenty of time to finish planning for Sept.

But thats so hard as I want to plan and prepare for both. And just want the time to get here for BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean. It's tough here as all my family want to talk about is the NYE cruise and I still need to stay focused on September! My DS13 has even been pestering me about whether or not I'll definitely be able to rent him a white tux! :confused3 Kids today, eh?!! :lmao:

Karen
A 13yo wanting to wear a tux?? WOW classy teen <G> So ok will he get that white tux????

So ok will he get that white tux????
He's still my baby so I'll do everything I can to make it happen - just don't tell him I said that! :goodvibes

Marsha, I've only just noticed how many cruises you've got coming up! :cool1: :woohoo: :cool1:

You have been bitten by the DCL bug very badly! Mind you, I can talk - I've got the Magic in September, a Wonder 4 night DD in May 2008, back on the Magic for Mexican Riviera in August 2008 (which I'm supposed to be cancelling but can't quite make myself do it until we've firmed up alternative summer plans...) and now the 2008 NYE extravaganza on the Magic!!! Just don't tell the bank manager... :sad2:

Oh yeah I have been bitten badly :rolleyes1 Ya know though in part I haven't taken vacations in so many years, all I have done is work. I took time off of course but that would be to sit around house, take care of errands, appts, and of course visit Disney parks too. Not to sound morbid, but now that I have a progressive degenerative neuro disease it hit me, wait a minute, I deserve to have fun, take true vacations etc.... while I still can. :goodvibes

So ok I go into more debt but what American isn't there with me? :cool1:

I work hard and although my finances aren't the greatest as being a social worker we are paid as one of the lowest pay scales out there for any profession..... But I don't care as much anymore about my debt. Yes I pay my bills on time and am working on getting credit cards paid off. Just got one paid off in full and cancelled that card. WOO HOO.

But if I have to put vacations on a credit card (Disney Visa) just to go and have some fun, then I'm going to do it. Of course I budget so by the time the cruise actually arrives I have paid whatever I have charged for the cruise off. *Of course there are other charges on there for other things LOL).

I just got tired of working so much and saying oh I can't go there, I can't do that, I can't afford that etc.... So what's a credit card for anyway :rotfl2:

And yeah I live on ramen noodles but hey i am going on several disney cruises that will feed me well :cool1: :rotfl:

So by June, Sept 07 Mar 08 and Sept 08 unless something happens I am not expecting the credit cards charges for these cruise will be paid off before I step foot on the ship. And then I will have Disney Visa rewards to shop on board

But of course now I am having to finance a new minivan grrrrr and one never knows what could happen from one day to another. Right now have cheap rent, next year that may all change. But I am going to plan to cruise, book, and luckily know the date I can cancel without penalities :rolleyes1

Figured why not, plan, book, and hope finances don't get worse but only better (yeah don't we all wish that :goodvibes )

I also found cruising is a perfect vacation for me as everything is right there. No getting in/out of hotel rooms, in/out car/van, in/out of buildings etc.... And really for me esp being single its cheaper to cruise then go for 7 nights somewhere in a hotel, out to eat each day, tips for those meals, gas driving to wherever, price to get into attractions etc.... Maybe thats one advantage of being single <G>

So maybe i will see you on another cruise in 08 or 09?????? I want to cruise on the new ships that I can barely stand having to wait for the ships to just be built :goodvibes

Hi everyone, booked our cruise today and joined the DIS boards. WOW, you guys have been planning for a long time, I was looking at the post dates on the first page and didn't see that they were dated 06, not 07.

It will be DH, DD (who will be 9) and I on the cruise.

I'm also a pea, made me smile when I saw some scrappers on this board.

So glad you found us! :thumbsup2

The experienced cruisers (not me - I've only been on the 3 night Bahamian back in May 2005) are always happy to answer any questions you might have about the ports of call, excursions etc.

Are you just doing the cruise or are you spending any time in WDW before/after?
