Hello everyone!!!!! What a week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just finished having my daughters big 1st birthday party today and now I can be back to focus on Disney stuff.

Anyways....have I missed anything important on this thread???

I've gotta question- is anyone else pulling their kids out of school to go in September?

Me, me- I am! Anyways, they'll miss about 6 days of school- that's just life though. I know kids that miss more days 'faking' illnesses. Anyways- should I send a letter that FIRST day of school or should I wait until the next week when things settle down? First week isn't until August 26th- so it's already about two weeks out from our vacation time.

I am too. Last year I didn't have any issues, and I am not expecting any this year. Ry started last week. I will probably give the teacher a heads up this week. I wanted to give them a chance to get into the groove of things before I dropped the news on him!

I'm just a bit nervous after reading how some people were harassed by the schools about vacation. I looked through our student handbooks and see NOTHING covering it and my kids aren't barely ever out for 'sick' days- so I'm not feeling guilty about pulling them out- just anxious! I cannot BELIEVE we're under 30 days now!

Some schools are really strict and weird! I would hate living in a place like that. I feel if I want to take my kid out of school and I am willing to be responsible for missed work, etc then that's my choice. I am sure in a few years he won't want to go to Disney with his boring old Mom so I want to enjoy it while I can!

I have been pulling my kids out since my 16 y/o was in 1st grade - no joke.

And every year I get anxious and nervous theyre going to say no, and every year I build myself up ready to have to have to 'cop an attitude' and every year it turns out fine.

But I'm still ready to tell them to get bent.

Hi everyone !

I am back from my little mini vacation and ready to get down to business getting ready for this Disney vacation. It is going to be a whirlwind for me leading up to this ! I will be very busy for the next few weeks.

So I have a QOTD for Monday ....

What are the top 3 things you will do this week to prepare for your vacation ( if anything at all) ?

Mine are
1. Look over the finances and have a very good estimate on what I need to allocate as spending money for this trip
2. Go through the window decorations from last year and see what else I want to buy for this year ( I think it is going to be a Halloween theme again for MNSSHP)
3. Actually update my itinerary. I have been really slacking on this !

I work in the school system and from what I have seen the schools are up against it in keeping their attendance up etc. and as usual the majority of us have to suffer for what the minority do. They make the rules up to keep those parents who might prefer to sleep in to getting their kids up for school and do not take into account those responsible parents who make sure their children get their studies done and only have a limited time period in which they can take family vacations. I am a staunch supporter of education but even I would take a child out of school for a few days if they are doing well and are capable of catching back up with missed work. Family time is important as well and there ARE many educational opportunities at DW, and elsewhere.

QOTD??? I am doing the last minute tweaks to my agenda. I put the suitcases out upstairs and need to go up and repack the 'bathroom' bag and get an emergency medicine bag ready. All the rest of the packing is pretty easy. I leave the entire outfit on the hanger (it is how we hang our clothes normally, slacks and top on one hanger), fold in half and insert into suitcase. No wrinkles and makes unpacking go so much quicker too. I work in the yard a certain amount each day too so that it is all done by the time we leave. I keep a list of what to do when that I use for each trip. Makes things go so much smoother and I am less apt to forget anything.

We are pulling our kids out to go to Disney. They will only have had 8 school days when I pull them out for 6!

Oh well.

Our school is good about it. They see the value of travel in the education of children. Now granted Disney is not the same educationally as say the Louvre in Paris but still getting out and seeing another part of our little planet counts to me.

They can't say we can't take them so we are!

1. Make a final decision over whether I'm going to justify the expense of a rental car. With ME and the bus transportation it's not a need. But we frequently leave the park at closing and I remember last year waiting through several buses before getting one at MK, MGM and Epcot. Not a fun thing with a tired kid.

2. Nitpick and second-guess my itinerary. Since I have no real planning to do, it keeps me busy.

3. Get extra sleep so I can go commando on vacation.


Our school is pretty good about the vacation thing too. In New Jersey you're allowed a 10% un-excused absense rate. That's 18 days. For some reason this year our town is off for Rosh Hashanah. So our first full week back isn't even a full week. My son is only missing 4 days, somehow I doubt that will hurt his education. Before back to school night at the end of September, they never do anything but review.

I am so sorry to hear of more loved ones lost for you. I am sure you just want it all to stop already and know that you are not alone we all have been or will be there. I know I have been when it just seems to never end one person after the other and you can't help but wonder what or who's next. Take a deep breath and know that in about a month you will be surrounded by friends that are here for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers and I am sending you a whole truck load of pixie dust your way this time since my bucket full didn't work last time.

This will be the third time we have pulled the kids out of school to go to WDW. It has always been fine and not a big deal. It is so worth it to not have to deal with the large summer crowds! Just 30 days to go! I can't hardly stand it!
