September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

Test results are finally in. Diagnosis is stage 3 lymphoma. Fortunately the cancer has not spread to the bones. At this point this was the best we could hope for. Harry starts chemo next Friday. When we asked about the cruise the doctor said "sure you can go, keep on living, we will work around it". Harry is really upset that he will lose his hair before the cruise. He seemed to be in denial up until this point so this hit him really hard today. I was expecting the worst so I was actually relieved. It's very bad but it could be worse.

Looking forward to seeing everyone! You all have been so kind.:grouphug:

Donna

I can understand how he would be upset at losing that amazing head of hair.

We had a Youth Pastor who went bald when in his 20s. He found a cap that said
"God only made a few perfect heads. On the rest He put hair."

I bet Harry has a great head!

:grouphug: Glad the news is not as bad as you feared!! :grouphug:
.

THANKS! We have had a lot of support but even before we started telling people we had great peace about it. We are sitting together now watching NUMB3RS, then I will go home. I stayed and played nurse last night--I have been awake for 42 hours. I think hearing a familiar voice helped him transition from anesthesia.

We expect he will be in regular cardiac care tomorrow and home early next week. THANKS AGAIN!

Just a reminder for both of you..."don't forget to put your oxygen mask on first", you can't take care of someone else if you don't take care of you. Will keep you all in my prayers.

So glad everything went well. Now take care of yourself!

Donna

And I give you the same advice!!
I am taking a week off as soon as Tom gets home. We will sit in our double recliner and when he sleeps I will sleep or rest and when he needs something I will be right there.

The next week I will schedule my clients with spaces so I can make a home visit and then come home to see him a while and then go see another kiddo.

Wish more people would understand that petite means height impaired not just small boned (skinny).

Yeh....and you'd think a store that specializes in larger sizes would offer petite/average/tall options! (which they DO on-line, but zero selection in the store) :sad2:

No luck on my evening shopping expedition, but Peg got three pairs of capris.....harumph!

.

OK, I had to share my warped British sense of humor!

Saw some info tonight about Disney carpet and area rugs, so though I had to check it out. Imagine my surprise when I saw one of the carpets/colors was called "Pretty Princess Shag"
Talk about :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

(For those of you that don't know - shag in the UK is slang for  "intimate relations"):rolleyes1

I think Disney might have hit on a new marketing tool!:lmao:

Tall options, heaven forbid. If that was the case, I would have clothes that fit! I am wearing capris, I could swear that they are full length pants on anyone else!:confused3

Have you got an Eddie Bauer outlet near you? I find that good for tall pants, maybe they have a section for you shorties  jC Penney also seem to have clothes in different lengths.

Must go to the safedeposit box for passports-hope they are there!
More sunscreen-maybe it will be on sale this week.
Schedule hair miracle.
Reschedule dental appointment.
Yes-new undies.
Order snorkel gear.
Check 1st aid kit and meds.
Email calendar of events to our son.

Staging area is forming. Must decide on how to separate precruise at Hilton Head and Radisson at the port, cruise and postcruise at SSR.

You are on the updated list posted just a few days ago, so worry not!! It is just that Page 1 hasn't been updated. Jan has had other things to deal with. I think the list is closing tomorrow, so I am sure disneylove will be posting a final list then.

Oh,

sorry :guilty:

since there is an FE Coordinator, I had not been keeping that list up to date. Guess I should. :flower3:

sorry :sad1:

bad Jan, very bad Jan..... :sad2:

Jan, so sorry you had to go thru this. I'm glad you DH is doing better. My dad went thru this 8 yrs ago (same thing, a quad bypass) at age 66 and he hasn't had a problem since. Same thing, no symptoms, Dr found something a little funny on a yearly checkup and sent him to a cardiologist, did a stress test, then scheduled him for an angioplasty. Said the may open him up for a triple bypass, depending on how the angio goes. Well, they did a quad and one of his arteries was 100% blocked. Again, no symptoms. So you're right, you just never know so keep up to date on your checkups. It was scary seeing him in the hospital, but he recovered quickly (amazing how different he looked from the ICU to a reg room!). He is in great shape, no lasting effects, and he was able to do all things he did before the bypass. You are in my prayers. I know he will do well (I hope my dad's story helped put your mind at ease a little).

Thanks Linda!

I am a PT and worked with Cardiac patients in my younger years. It is Tom who needs these stories.

For some reason men do not seem to tell each other things like this until someone is facing surgery or after--so they do not know who has had such a procedure. Sometimes they go through it, thinking they are the first one ever and will be incapacitated for the rest of their lives, then they find many friends who have had by-pass surgery.

If only it were a topic of conversation on the golf course

Congrats on finding the undies. Bras are the worst for me-sorry guys-you should have to shop for them.

Guess you don't sew. I found a great pattern for capris that I adjusted for petite. Can cut them out and have a pair ready to wear in less than 2 hours.
Wish more people would understand that petite means height impaired not just small boned (skinny).

Joanie

CAREFUL what you suggest about shopping -- some of them might LIKE to go along and then would embarrass their woman with a little TOO MUCH interest in the topic......

Good for you sewing your own capris!! Clever girl! :thumbsup2

::yes:: I LOVE THIS !! :thumbsup2
figuratively and literally. THANKS for a smile!

Kay,

I only got as far a Princess Shag in your post and I was laughing. Yes, there are some words that have a very different meaning.

I'll never forget living in the UK and watching an episode of the Golden Girls with some friends, and a line that one of the characters said about another character having gained weight ... "She's gained so much weight I'm surprised she can squeeze her fanny into a pair of jeans."

Now for me an American that meant tush, but for my friends, well, something very different.

Well don't talk to me about Fanny Packs then!:lmao:

Still can't get my head round that phrase.

This reminds me of a story.

Years ago a group of us from the TV station went out for happy hour. There were probably about 14 of us that night and though the group was all mixed up (gender-wise) at the beginning of the evening, eventually the women were all at one end of the table and the men at the other. I was sitting in the middle and was listening to both groups talk. At one point I just cracked up laughing...the men were discussing medical procedures (a couple of them had recently had a vasectomy) and the women were talking about deep sea fishing! :lmao: So maybe the guys don't discuss this stuff on the golf course, but they just might in the pub!

.

Donna & Harry  I am so happy you will be able to still sail with us.. :cool1:

Jan.. Blessings and Prayers and Pixie Dust :wizard:
Yeah what SHE said!
oh ::yes:: you do ;)

You and I are gonna be best friends or even better emenies at the end of this trip ya know

I feel a little sorry for Jackie, NOT!!!

Love ya Jacks!
At first I didn't - Jackie had to remind me of the farmville post - I'm pre-menopausal / menopausal and my mind just does NOT work like it normally does... but there is one thing I know for sure... you would NEVER be my enemy... I love your banter and fiestyness! I'm always up to people who challenge me, gets my blood flowing and makes me feel alive!!!

That's true with so many of the stores, Ann Taylor, Talbots, they have a petite section but don't carry the entire line in the stores, I usually go on-line and order pants in petites... sister I'm sorry we didn't find you anything... I tried...:sad2:

no problem at all...that's why I asked....Glad it is an old one.....disneylove69 said we are on the updated one!! :yay:
