Sept with 9 month old or Jan with 13 month old????

We are expecting our 3rd in Dec.

Planning a vaca with my brother's family and my parents.

Looking at Sept '07 or Jan '08. One of our deciding factors is the temperment of the child but there are so many other factors to consider.

Any advice?

We took our youngest to DL at 9 months and it was great. She wasn't walking yet so was content to be packed and in stroller, but she was old enough to sit up and enjoy the rides. She really liked teacups, small world, and buzz. I'm sure you'll get lots more comments from those who go more regularly and can compare the 2 ages.

At 9 months, you can still comfortably carry the baby in a Bjorn or other type of front carrier. by 13 months, the baby will be heavier and quite possibly mobile...but not in a convenient way, just in a "more work to keep track of him/her" way. Another possible plus...September might bring another round of free dining (but one never knows)...

If the child is walking age, at least he wouldn't have to be held all the time when you're in line.

I agree with the last Disboarder - you may not have to carry your child all day if they are a little older. The weather is a little cooler in February. I think it is a easier to bundle up a bit than figure out a way to cool a toddler down.

have been with our daughters at 6 mos, 11 mos, 12 mos, 18 mos on up to 3 yrs (and we're going at the end of this month when they are 4 and 18 mos respectively). I have to say that it was much, much easier when the girls were NOT mobile. The second they could move around, at least for our "wild" ones, they did not want to be confined for any long periods in the stroller. I think the worst time was when our older daughter was 11 mos old and just toddling. She wanted to get down and walk/crawl *everywhere* and there aren't too many hygienic and safe places to do that there! When we went last year, we had our younger daughter in a Bjorn and she was pretty content in that or the stroller. which was lucky for us b/c it left one of us free to chase our 3 yr old around.

of course it also depends a lot on personality. and you say you are going w/your extended family, too, which will make baby "wrangling" a lot easier, too!

This is the thing...if we went in Sept, I will still be nursing (with jar foods, etc also of course)
If we waited till Jan, I would be done nursing.

I vote for 13 months in Jan. The weather is a prime factor - it's miserably hot still in Sept, and it would be even more so with a 9 month old baby to be carried. Also, I'd much rather take a walking baby (assume most would be walking at 13 months) than a crawling one (at 9 months). There is really no-where that a crawling baby can get down and explore in the parks (well, I guess there's a baby area at MK by Winnie the Pooh, I think). Our first Disney trip was to DL when mine were 4 and 13 months, and it was great! 13 month old was still nursing, but occasionally took a bottle with formula still (just brought powder mix). He was very good-natured and was quite content to be in the stroller and to be held while we were in lines.

We took our son when he was 13 months old the first time we went and he was so wiggly that it was miserable for us. He has a very "spirited" temperment though and it was just not a pleasant experience. Going 6 months later was much better for him and us. I agree that it depends on your child.

I'd rather go with a 13 month old than a 9 month old, UNLESS the 9 month old was on the small side. And of course there's no way to know that yet. DS was a shrimp, DD a monster, so it's even hard to guess.

With DD, we went to Universal at 10 1/2 months. It was a very low key trip, and not really for her, so no problem. She could stand but not walk very well yet. But I kept thinking it was a good thing we weren't at Disney where she'd have to be carried a lot. You don't know how many places you can't take a stroller until you have a (large!) baby that can't walk!

We like September because you can swim, and the crowds are usually small. I'm not sure about January.

We did take our (then) 19 month old and used the stroller most of the time. Mostly because he is "crazy" when he is not in the stroller--just everywhere!
But also for safety purposes.

I tend to think that at 9 months or at 13 months the baby will be in the stroller alot.

9 Month Old!!!!! a 13 month old wants to get of the stroller and run away from you!!!! a 9 month old loves to go for a ride in the stroller and see all the sights!!!!

Cute! You could be right about the difference.

Our 2 1/2 yr old has forever wanted to get out of the stroller. We went when he was 19 months and he wanted out but he learned quickly he was NOT.

Hopefully the next one will not be quite as active as him. He is a bundle and a half to keep track of!!!

Another vote for wait and see on the nursing (if you are open to that.) It has many advantages past one year and on vacation. If you want more info just ask. We have taken a baby at 7, months, 8 1/2 months, 9 months, 17 months old, 19 months old and 23 months old (2 different babies. )

I agree the over 6 months but under a year is the easiest for the parents. You never know when they will be walking. I really assumed 2nd DD would be by our Jan trip when she was 17 months old, she was a scooter and scooted all around WDW (we were so worried about her getting stepped on) and she got so dirty. The min we got home and put her on her own turf she started walking.

I think it would actually mater more the time of year then the babies age. Spet can be hot and rainy, sometimes risk for hurricanes or at least major storms.

Jan can be on the cool side, you even need winter coats, hats and mittens some nights (and some days it is 80, so you need a bit of everything.) Cold isn't good, but cool is better for babies can HOT.

We are going in Jan this year, when last year too. Weather is pretty hit or miss, but we always have a good time. We went Aug 2003 and decided never again (but Spet might be a bit different.)

Just bring your own stroller, a baby carrier of some kind and a rain cover for the stroller (that is my best and standard baby at WDW advice.) Oh and breast feeding makes life easier too (and when in doubt with a older or preschooler potty train AFTER The trip instead of before, especially if it is going to be just a bit before. Newly potty trained is difficult at WDW. )

Oh, and last but not least, take TONS of pictures!
