I have one son that plays rugby league, he said to me a couple of months back - wouldnt it be terrible if I broke my leg before our trip ! " "

Ummm YES !! ,

But being the uber planner, I went into "what if " mode, and thought well we can rent a wheelchair in WDW, cruise should be OK - but it would sort of suck being in NYC and having a kid that couldnt walk - I wondered if travel insurance would pay for an upgraded flight - (you know the boy needs his mother to sit beside him up in first class:rotfl:)

But anyway he finished his season last week, still walking!

My other boy plays AFL - he has two more games
(hoping for a GF spot:wizard:) so crossing fingers for no injuries!!!

Sorry to all the sickies...we leave in 2 weeks and have just gotten over the couch/flu/sore throat thing we've had the last 2 weeks.

My Magical express passes arrived today. This time in 2 weeks I'll be on the plane. How exciting!!

Only days away now and for the last few days me and dbf have had sore throats

I have never had so many tablets! I am going overboard hoping to kill anything before it really develops. I am on cold and flu tablets, garlic tablets, vit c, eating strepsils, difflam spray, eating oranges and drinking orange juice. Last night made stir fry with more ginger and garlic in it than I have ever used before (actually tasted really yummy), and I had chicken soup for lunch :rotfl2:

Haven't gotten any worse which is good, hoping it will pass us by before developing further.

Anyone else with food suggestions for beating back colds, I am determined not to get sick.

Being so close you might want to visit your GP and check your ears as well, just in case you have an ear infection brewing and need antibiotics in prep to travel. I know for minor ear infections normally you can let them go (well, I do....) but for flying it's a different matter.

If you still have it closer to the time when you go to the chemist ask for the original Coderal or Sudafed, the type you need to show ID for. The pseudoephradrine (sp?) will really unblock your ears and nose compared to the newer can-buy-in-the-supermarket type.

And I really hope you get better in the next few days. I've had a cold this week, and DD has been off school all week with it. (((Hugs.)))

ETA: Sunlight. You just feel better + the extra vitamin D can't hurt.

Best Wishes and speedy recovery to all the sickies....
With only :dance3: 11 days :dance3: to go I am so scarred :scared1: of anyone getting sick....

I've had my son off school last week with a cold. Hubbie is just getting over it.
The icky thing I'm dealing with now is@#!@#$@# lice!!! :sad2:Little blighters are doing the rounds of the school.
Oh and my son has plantar warts...:scared1:
Gotta make sure all that is gone by the time we go!:crazy2:

:scared1::scared1: eeeeeeeek.....nits terrify me! We got a note from school about them today too, some other kid in the class has them.....ick! DD has waist length hair, so those rotten things are NOT coming into this house. I braid her hair and spray it with tea tree spray, plus I spray it into her school hat too. Anything to make sure they stay far away!

I never even thought of ear problems, my ears are usually extra sensitive on planes. I get pain when the plane lands. I might need to see if I can get in to see a doctor. Will see how I am feeling tomorrow morning when I wake up. Thanks for the advice.

hey

Just back at work after a day off crook.....seriously i will be not too happy if I'm not well for hols...

since i work with kids, i may wrap myself in bubble wrap and drown myself in detol...

Only 2 weeks today to we leave and we are flying Qantas- big mistake!! All this talk about strike action. I can deal with an hour or so delay from the engineers strike but EVERYBODY- ground staff, refuellers, baggage handlers seem to have voted for strike action. It feels like the perfect storm! Has anyone else been in my situation and is there anything you can do- leave earlier? try to book another carrier? Jennie

hey

don't panic....strike action is meant to cause chaos...so just hold tight and it will be fine. The union likes to throw as much panic into the "public" world....

Qantas has always been good at sorting flights etc around industrial action [I should know, as I am an ex-engineer]...:thumbsup2

so hang tight and look forward to your holidays:banana:

You poor thing, I am very glad that I am flying v. I am sure it won't affect you at all in the end, but I totally understand it is a worry you just don't want so close your holiday.

Totally get it - we've been through this worry on our past two trips. In the end none of our flights were even delayed, the only thing that happened is that one flight was changed from an A380 to a 747-400. I actually liked it as I prefer Boeing, but that's another story. :rotfl:

I had a nightmare last night that Qantas rang and said we couldn't fly on the date, and there was nothing the day before or day after or go via LA instead of Dallas. I woke in a total flap and DH spent about 1/2 hour in the middle of the night calming me down!

I have this same worry too as, although we leave a couple of weeks after you, I'm not sure when they are going to strike and for how long. Some type of trips might be okay if travel was disrupted but, for this trip, where I have spent the last 18 months planning each trip day based on LCP data and have ADR's booked, I would be absolutely devastated if a strike disrupted our plans and I'm sorry, even if the engineers etc have a valid grumble, I would sooooo resent them for striking!!! :headache:

I dont think we have a choice at this stage - just have to cross our fingers and hope for hassle free flights!! :wizard:

hey

If i could recommend that you check your fare details ie: refundable/ changeable and your travel insurance.
Most travel insurance will cover industrial action.
Just make sure you have your policy number and a toll free number for
1.Qantas in the USA
2.travel insurance in the USA.

Most of the time if there is a delay they will pop you on another flight [code share] so if worse comes to worse have all your ducks in a row and you'll be fine.
Also look at re-routing...take any routes they offer to get you back to at least australian soil.

It'll be all ok.......but heres some extra pixie dust for luck:wizard:

I am not so worried about getting back. I can deal with a few more days on vacation!!! It is getting OUT of Australia that worries me!! We have 4 cruises - including 2 Disney cruises- lined up as well as Disney World I have worked 2 jobs for years and we have had parts of this trip booked for 3 years so I DON'T want it to fall in a heap!! I just wish I could look forward ot it all without having the worry clouding my anticipation. Jennie

Hey,

feel your pain.......but it'll all be fine, just a lot of smoke and mirrors. This happens every 5 or so years, so really business as per usual.
If you are worried, ring qantas and find out what will be offered to replace any cancelled flights....fiind out the procedures etc

enjoy your countdown:banana:
