Sept. 7, 2012 - Magic NYC - Canada

In the United States, Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance (previously Patriot Day, until September 10, 2012)[1] occurs on September 11 of each year, designated in memory of the 2,977 killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Initially, the day was called the Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. When the new name was proposed, it received opposition from Massachusetts, which already had a Patriots' Day.

U.S. House of Representatives Joint Resolution 71 was approved by a vote of 407–0 on October 25, 2001. It requested that the President designate September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day". President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law on December 18, 2001 (as Public Law 107-89[2]). It is a discretionary day of remembrance. On September 4, 2002, President Bush used his authority created by the resolution and proclaimed September 11, 2002 as Patriot Day.

Thanks Mr. Wikipedia. :rotfl2:
I hadn't heard the term before. I guess I've been living in a bubble since I hadn't heard it.

The New Yorker? Sorry I missed you and MJ too.

No, we were at the Hampton Inn on 39th. I sort of went a block too far and ended up on 9th, so we just walked to 39th and back down half a block towards 8th. We did look in the windows as we walked by with all our luggage.

Never heard the term Patriot Day until I saw that on the Navigator. My cousin, who sailed with us and lives just outside Wash DC, hadn't heard the term either. He figured since it was Patriot Day it should be a Federal Holiday and we totally agreed.
So.....does anyone know when the term was first used?

Not to be confused with Patriots' Day.

Patriots' Day (officially Patriots' Day in Massachusetts and Patriot's Day in Maine) is a civic holiday commemorating the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. It is observed on the third Monday in April in Massachusetts and Maine (once part of Massachusetts), and is a public school observance day in Wisconsin. Observances and re-enactments of these first battles of the American Revolution occur annually at Lexington Green in Lexington, Massachusetts, (around 6:00 am) and The Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts, (around 9:00 am). In the morning, mounted re-enactors with state police escorts retrace the rides of Paul Revere and William Dawes, calling out warnings the whole way.

Since 1969, the holiday has been observed on the third Monday in April, providing a three-day long weekend, as well as being the first day of public school vacation week in Maine and Massachusetts. Previously, it had been designated as April 19 in observance of the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. It is also a school holiday for many local colleges and universities, both public and private.

We had a great time on this cruise. We met lots of very nice cruisers. :goodvibes

If DCL returns to NY who will cruise to Canada again. Our DD's and DSIL's would like to cruise to Canada, so if DCL returns we would cruise again. It would be nice if they added port and extended the to cruise to 7 days.

If DCL returns to Canada, I would definitely consider booking. Since this was a girls' cruise for me, I would love for my family to be able to experience sailing out of New York harbor and for my kids to be able to spend some time in New York pre- or post-cruise. I would also like to see an extended Canadian cruise (at least 7 days) with ports added.

Would definitely cruise again if going from NY, so convenient and less stressful traveling for DD. Thought it interesting that it was referred to as the New England -Canada cruise in some of DCL's marketing materials and would love to visit some New England ports. Had a great time and wonderful memories, met lots of great people. :)

I'm also hoping they bring a ship back to New York. As some of you have mentioned, 7+ days with more NE ports would be great. I really wish they would announce the itineraries! So great meeting many of you at the DISmeet, non-champagne girls (LOL), and around the ship. Hope our travels overlap in the future!

First, let me say thank you for a Magical cruise and all the amazing FE gifts! :)

Especially there were highlights of this cruise that made this the better of the 3 B2B2B cruises (9/2, 9/7 & 9/12) we were on...

~ as mentioned, the FE was amazing and your generosity was overwhelming! Thanks :thumbsup2
~ the Roaming Gnome made it around to the whole list. Thank you for making it a success! Especially since the 9/2 cruise it didn't make it past day 2, nor to my room at all and it never made it back to the host, Kelly! And on the 9/12 the Gnome stopped at a FE participant next door to me who was not on the list so it was a good thing I saw it and collected it to give to my co-host. I passed the Gnome torch on to a new friend since I was hosting it on this cruise. Thanks again to all who made the Gnome Roam on the Magic! :cool1:
~ thank you to all the ladies who came to the Mother/Daughter Bruncheon in Palo! It was a nice "girls" day out and a wonderful meal... Oops Magical ;) Especially since I missed the "Pink" social due to resting my back from a crew incident on the 9/2 cruise. And, saving the best for last... Thanks goes to Maragret (maggiesam) for making those beautiful 'programs' commemorating our Bruncheon! You are an :littleangel: Not to mention all your other help with the lists and floor plans :worship:
~ congratulations to Mike & Ellen on your 19th anniversary! I'm so glad I remembered you from our 2004 cruise! Thanks for including my mom and me in your Palo dinner and brunch ressies! I'm just sorry that me being sent to medical held dinner up a little. Please accept my apologies. And my mom was sad that she had to miss brunch as her arthritis was flared up the next morning. We hope you had a magical anniversary and wish we could share your 20th with you next year! :flower3:
~ last but not least, thank you to both Ellen/Mike and Tommie/Lee for the beautiful cards celebrating my 20th anniversary of being a Survivor. I can't tell you enough how special they made feel. I cried tears of joy reading those cards, thank you

Just be glad we're not going on the 9/12 sailing. They be accompanied by Leslie.

It actually wasn't that bad :scratchin

Thank you all for a great trip! Hope to see you on future cruises! Anyone going on the 5/27 Alaska cruise?

Is that one on the Wonder? In order for me to hit my Grand Slam I need to get on the Wonder by May 12th.

A great cruise! So nice to meet many of you, hope you also had a wonderful time. :cheer2:

Margaret, it was a pleasure meeting you and your family! :grouphug:

What a fantastic cruise! And what fabulous weather given all of the Hurricane Leslie worries. Just wanted to echo how nice it was to meet everyone at the meet and greets and around the ship. I also wanted to throw out a special thank you to Linda for making those awesome name tags. The customs guy in New York asked me if I was a crew member when he saw my name tag :)

Ditto, to the nice weather and great name tags! I used mine on the 9/12 cruise and wished I had it on the 9/2 cruise :rotfl:

The Navigator for Tuesday did say that it was Patriot Day. We could see the Tribute in Light from the ship when we were making our way into port late Tuesday night. I thought that was pretty awesome.

What did the tribute light look like? I wasn't up that early on 9/12. But it took all night to pack my mom on the last cruise and so we got to see the Bridge, SOL and NY all lit up on 9/17. I don't remember a bright light but maybe because we were starboard?

Ditto both of you, I wished for 7 nights and NE ports instead of just the "coast". With that said, living in Baltimore I'm wishing DCL comes here to our glorious port to make DCL accessible to MD, DC, and the rest of the Mid-Atlantic. That way I would have only a 30 minute ride vs a 4 hour one :lmao:

Lastly, is anyone doing the DVC Members cruise in January??? :wave2:

Again, :thanks: everyone for a Magical cruise! pixiedust:

Ok - I have been a bad disboard member and have not been on this board for ages. Sorry.

We had a wonderful cruise and part of what made the cruise so special was meeting all the great disboard members on the ship :):thumbsup2. I just loved the dismeets we had and loved bumping into so many wonderful people. My DH was amazed at the amount of people I knew and how I kept saying hi to so many people.

Glad you liked the name tags :). It helped remember every ones names. I did have some left over - not any FE ones - but ones I had made of some disboard members that were not involved in the FE. So sorry I did not get to meet everone.

We are cruising in November 2013 on the Dream for our 5 year anniversary and already have 10 friends cruising with us :grouphug: so I will be making name tags for all of us (even though we all know each other - the names tags are fun).

Hope this thread stays alive - it's a great way to reconnect.

Linda

I hope all of you from this cruise that live in the north east are well. We got minimal just rain and some winds in Williamsburg Va. Sue

Hi Sue - glad to hear you are ok. We also did not get too much damage. Our power was off for about 16 hours and we lost some roof tiles but other then that we are ok.

Lee and her family were on the Fantasy out in that storm - they are now back and safe.

Hope everyone is ok.

Linda and Sheldon
