Orbitz has inside staterooms for this cruise for $699 - why so cheap? Is there something about this month that should be avoided? Or do you think it's because it's usually the first week of school? Just wondering what everyone's take on it is...

Thanks :)

I don't have a lot of info on pricing - so don't know how that compares.

I would think in addition to that being back to school time for lots of families, August to October is also peak hurricane season. Just something to keep in mind - although I think a lot of folks here have cruised during that time and could give you more info on their experiences.

supply and demand is the basic tenet of cruise fares...

Beginning of September is back to school for many kids. Thus, the pricing reflects that. As for hurricane season, don't give that a second thought....the captain wont steer the ship into a storm - the worst case scenario is that the ship will be diverted....

September is the least expensive month to cruise. At a 'captain's meet' on our last 7 night cruises (in September) someone asked him about that, and he said that industry wide, September has the lowest demand for cruises, so the prices drop in that month.

We have always cruised in September and will again this year for the 7 night. We couldn't afford to go on a 7 night during the summer, the prices double!

Yes school has started and hurricane season is in full force. We always seem to have a big storm brewing over Labor Day weekend....it would discourage me.

Believe it or not, hurrican season over here on the
east coast starts in mid June and lasts to Dec........

That is in the hands above, I am afraid :)

General rule is Sept - Oct is prime hurricane
season for storms and yes, they are out there.

We were even on a cruise during a hurricane and
1) The ship (Thank God) is faster than the storm
Especially DCL ships which are some of the
fastest in the fleet.......

2) You never know, but boy are the prices good
to hold.

3) It is for the protection of the guests, if the
Capt decides to pick a different port of call
or instead of going to a island you were scheduled
for you might end up with a day at sea.....

4) On our cruise we went to a different port and
were always ahead of the storm - the weather
was GORGEOUS!!!!!

5) Some guests think that all travel insurance covers
things like this, well, read the fine print!!!

""""CONSIDERED AN ACT OF GOD"""""" and most
do not. So read your policies carefuly. You might
assume you are covered for something you are not :)

Feel free to email us anytime, if we can help it will be
our pleasure!!

But Dana--if DCL cancelled a cruise due to an oncoming catastrophic hurricane (not that they just wouldn't go in the opposite direction--just supposing)....then you wouldn't need the trip insurance for that reason as DCL cannot keep your money and NOT send you on a cruise--they would have to at least refund it.

There have been very few CANCELLED per say cruises
due to hurricanes in all the years of cruising.

Yes if the ship is going to hit one of the ports that
you might be leaving out of or if on your return
you might be able to come back that day.

There are ALL DIFFERENT types of circumstances.......

The WHAT IF factor. That is what insurance is
all about. BUT, my main point to my post was that
IF you are thinking of taking out travel insurance
(which we do take it out for our own reasons),
MAKE SURE to read the small print, call the insurance
company direct that you have booked the insurance
with and MAKE SURE that you are purchasing what
you think you are getting.

There are SOOOOOO MANY guests that ASSUME that
they are covered for one reason or another and then
when the WHAT IF factor happens, they MIGHT NOT
BE COVERED and they thought they were...........

So, it might take an extra minute, but it is worth checking.....
Due to the guests personal reasons of why they take
it out, they might not want it if it is not covering what
they assumed it did.

Just make sure to dot the i's and cross the t's :)

In most CRUISE BROCHURES, it is called an
ACT OF GOD clause. It really is in there :)

With that little clause the cruise line can
do what they feel is best, most of the time,
the cruise lines have let the guest reschedule
for another trip within the next year.

I have not heard of a FULL REFUND being given
back to guests because of a Hurricane.

The ship usually might be delayed a day going
out and the guests will go on that sailing with
maybe a ship board credit of some type for the
day they missed to catch up with the ship etc etc
etc.

It is up to the cruise line how they want to handle it.

But ALWAYS read the fine print of your documents etc.

Dana :)

P.S.: How about the cruise lines being able to out
of nowhere cancel a sailing because a big corporation
decides to charter out the entire ship and you had
planned to go for a few months and now you need to
either go on another one of their ships around the
same time, or reschedule...... This happens also.

But, we have found at least 8 out of 10 times the
cruise lines try to do the best they can do, to whatever
circumstances arrive for the guests :)

Sorry - I need to learn to read. My post was not for the correct date. My apologies and I'm so embarrassed!!!!

Dana,

also with travel insurance, it won't reimburse you if you cancel at the last minute simply because you "changed your mind." So if the ship is going to sail, and hasn't been canceled, but you don't want to go - you aren't covered.
