Hi, I new to the DIS forums and forums in general. Also a late comer to the cruise. Is it possible to join in for the pre cruise meet at the Hard Rock. It sounds like so much fun and a great way to meet fellow cruisers. Thank you

Welcome aboard!! Please introduce yourself and tell us something about you.

We are Noel and John Birkner from Woodside, California. I am 59 and John is 66. This is our 4th DCL cruise but have cruised many times on other cruise lines.

As for the HRC (Hard Rock Cafe) meet, please see item #7 on the list below for instructions on how to join the meet.

Other DIS members I am sure will answer more of your questions, so let me give you some general information about our cruise thread.

Be sure you read page one for all the exciting things that are happening on this cruise. Here is a partial list.

1. PM DisneyVegas1 to see if there are any cruise shirts left. Here is the Link to what the the shirts look like. Last post I believe there was 1 AS. If that size don't work for you, you can print a copy of the logo from the transatlantic pirates site and make an iron on tee shirt
2. PM Buckeye Gal with your hotel and flight information, see Post #17
3. Decide if you want Mickey Mouse shirts which some of us are wearing to dinner of Sept 28 and if you want to join us to order or print your own tee shirt, see post #1
4. If you want to link your dining ressies, PM Mrs. Mork if you are early or PM Totally Angelic if you are late.
5. Sign up on the roll call and send your pictures to the our cruise website at Transatlantic Pirateswebsite.
6. PM Connie (Con5421) if you would like to purchase a lanyard pin. see post #11.
7. Let mdwoodman know, if you can join the HRC pre cruise meet on 17 September @ 1700. See post #5
8. Go to: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...thkey=CJmPqOcK
and put your DIS name at the bottom of the list - then put in the sizes you need for your wristbands (they are a free gift) and fill in any other information you would like to share!
9. PM (Private Message) Sarah (Gismo1554) if you have any special occasions or birthdays that you are celebrating on board so she can put in our personal cruise Navigator.
10. If you are interested in a private St. Maarten tour, see post #2, PM birkner if interested.
11. A list of activities and a mini navigator link is posted on post #15.

Hope that gives you a good place to start. Any more questions, please ask away.

Noel

Thank you Noel!

Fixed! Nice thing about the calendar is that it can be updated on the fly and next time you check the page or open your calendar program it should sync up any new information.

Great to know. I tried to make it an ePub, so one could change font size, it didn't work out so well and was really changed from Sarah's vision, so I went with just the .PDF version.

Pj

You are welcome Penny!! It worked great on our Nexus one phones!!

Slight correction!!!

Please go and register on the website - www.transatlanticpirates.com - or see direct link in my signature line.

Once registered you can add in the activities you are interested in that are OPEN - so the HRC meet, as well as any excursions that you are taking. All of the DCL excursions are pre loaded into the system, so it is easy!

Post if you have questions!!

Calling all people owning Sony Readers

I discovered something earlier on more or less by accident. It is actually possible to download the PDF file that PJpoohbear onto the reader. It is of course only in black and white, but that is one less thing that I have to print out. I am not sure if it would work with a Kindle as well, but I am really pleased with this discovery.

I am not sure if I have done it before, but I really want to say a big thank you to Sarah and Penny for all the hard work they put into this.

Corinna

:scratchin OK will have to drag out the Sony reader and see if I can figure out how to use it.

Sorry Paula and Mandy - I think you'll find he's taken... ;)

meanddab.jpg

Me and Dave last year. What can I say..? Sorry!! :rotfl:

This is hilarious! :rotfl2:

I have just spent 2 hours wandering around the market and shops in Napier. Damage to my wallet - $4 - geez I suck at shopping!

I bought a cute (junk) bangle and a pretty little card wallet. I'm now back in my hotel room eating my leftover Thai takeaways for lunch and wondering whether to read my trashy magazine or watch Sex and the City before chat... decisions, decisions :rotfl:

Agreed Paula - we shall have to see if you can take lessons - although, this time, I "have a budget" :lmao: Yeah, let's see how well I do with that one. :rotfl:

I AM ALIVE!!! WDW was not crowded today, but the monorail ride was from hell. We stopped between The Contemporary and the MK Park for one hour with no air!! They kept saying that the monorail in front of us had mechanical problems, but I am going to try googling and see if that is the truth or they had a medical emergency or something. It was unbelievable. If I was there for one day, I would have been upset. We got on the Monorail at 2:00 and did not make it back to Epcot till almost 3:30! It was exhausting and in the 90's today. Also, The Land was down, not working, Test Track fast pass line was not working and something else was down, but cannot think of it. I told the CM by the Land that every ride seems to have some kind of malfunction today. He said he has heard that quite a bit. Anyway, after the torrential rain, and the fabulous dinner in Mexico, we are now home. We had a fab time, but never made it to the MK.

Hope everyone is well and will catch up tomorrow. I had to write to all my dis friends on the boards thinking I might not make it out alive. By the way, the monorail was standing room only and no water!!!! Okay, I am done venting!

Sounds like an awful experience!! Did you ever find out what the real story was with as I googled for news and saw nothing about a breakdown.

I can not imagine being cooped up with all of those people with no water!! Hope your trip gets better! On the bright side you said you had a fabulous dinner in Mexcio so all seemed not to be lost.

Made the correction. Come join Paula and I on the main chat board.

Sure, I had downloaded the PDF file this morning pretty much because I was curious how it would look. I decided to clean up my Reader a bit as there were books on there that for some reason had downloaded more than once and I wanted to make sure that I have enough room for the new books.

First of all, I am using my Reader with a Mac so it might be different if you are using a PC. When I plugged the Reader in, the Reader Library software came up. From there I went to file, import file and just double clicked on the PDF file for the Navigator in my Downloads folder. I then just left the Reader to synchronize and once that was finished, the Navigator was on there.
Corinna
I basically did that. Status showed that it transferred but I can't find it anywhere on the Reader. I'll keep playing around and maybe call the help desk. Thanks!

I tried - but I don't see you guys. I am in the main chat room, and there is only one other person... This happened before too - Glenn could see the right rooms, I couldn't!:sad2::sad1

I wish I could see you guys!!

OK...so here is what my hair looked like before noon today......

My hair is naturally pretty curly:

curly.jpg

....but I sometimes wear it straight:

And either way I wear it...it takes a lot of work....and a LOT of product:

products.jpg

(which is exactly why I wanted to cut it, because I didn't want to have to carry all that stuff with me!! :lmao:)

So here is the new look..................

newhaircut.jpg

I am still getting used to it...but I like it and it's going to be a lot easier to take care of I'm sure!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Yes you can! My Dad always ordered coffee at dinner and they just brought him regular stuff. First night I think they offered Capuccino etc and Dad said can I just have coffee? This was with his starter too so Im sure they thought it odd but he loves coffee!

We too love coffee and have it with dinner every night, from beginning to end of meal. :)

booked my excurions and they were in my book so i guess they are confirmed

whats palo like ? worth it? you have to go out of rotation to do it dont you

I would be dining alone .. do they allow that?

We enjoy dinner at Palo. Since we have 14 nights, and there are 3 restaurants, you will not have a problem seeing each restaurant. Maybe there is a group of 3 DIS friends that would like to have you join them. The tables are for either 2 or 4, so a group of 3 could easily add you.

I think this is the stressed I've too much to sort bit for me! Its just making me panic over everything, even money! Anyone would think I've never been on holiday abroad before! I'm asking everyone "how much money do you think we need to take?". What's all that about??? I can't understand how its stressing me out so much! It doesn't matter I have a credit card just incase! Sooner the next 19 days go the better!

We have never been on holiday abroad before!!! And are in the dark as to how much to budget. We got 500 Euros. We will need to pay for taxi in Barcelona from the airport to the hotel - 55 Euros and I'm thinking a 5 Euro tip  - . Thursday dinner is prepaid, as is the hop on hop off bus. So, any entrance fees we may need (have no idea how much to budget for this), and breakfast, lunch and HRC on Friday. Bus to the port is prepaid and I think we will pay for the hotel with our credit card. Then we need just lunch in Maderia and some souvineers at both. Maderia tour is DCL so will pay for that in US dollars on board. It seems 500 should be enough????:confused3

You had me going there.

I know what you mean about people at work being glad when I am finally gone. I have been driving them mad with this one for nearly two years now.

Corinna

I know our friends here are just SICK of hearing about our trip. :sad2:

Welcome!!! We are Dennis and Angie. We live in Montana and this is our 11th Disney cruise. We will celebrate our 43rd anniversary at WDW on Oct 6. If you are early dining and want to hook up with the group I will need a PM SOON. You need to have 10 posts to send PMs, but just tell us about yourself and then give us a few :):dance3::flower3::grouphug: and you can reach 10 posts very quickly.

We went on a shopping trip to the mall today. I got a purple top for villian night and will wear black slacks with it. Dennis is undecided as to whether he needs to buy a purple shirt, or just confiscate our DS's purple shirt and tie since they wear the same size. :thumbsup2 They did have some amazing sales going on though. We got him 3 pair of shorts, 2 Tees and a polo all for $31! Good shopping....and yep, I'm finally getting my Montana guy into shorts!! :rotfl2::rolleyes1 We also got him a new pair of crocs. His feet are happy!

So here is the new look..................

From what I am reading - you do NOT tip the taxi drivers in Barcelona.

I am sick of hearing 21 day... I want to hear Honey, the limo is here!!:cool1:

I have to confess that someone in this house got an unauthorized haircut today. Unfortunately. And it isn't one I would have wished for this close to the start of a new school year, and this close to our cruise. Especially since we've focused on making sure everyone has nice outfits so we can hopefully get some good family pictures.

My DH was blessed with extremely long eyelashes. My children were also blessed with the same long eyelashes, especially my son, and everyone has drooled over them since he was a baby. Tonight, my son decided to cut his top eyelashes off (both eyes) and 1/2 one eyebrow with the scissors he was using to cut out something for my DH!

I have absolutely no faith that the eyelashes will grow back, especially not before school and not before the cruise. We may get by with the 1/2 eyebrow for the cruise. When you meet my DS, please promise not to laugh!

Great to know. I tried to make it an ePub, so one could change font size, it didn't work out so well and was really changed from Sarah's vision, so I went with just the .PDF version.

Pj

I think in my research into ereaders, someone said the Kindle doesn't read epub documents, so I think I'm actually happy that it's .pdf version instead of ePub as I await my new Kindle.

Your before and after pics remind me of DH a few years ago. He was also blonde and curly, but keeps it short now. Also, he is mostly gray!!

:scratchin OK will have to drag out the Sony reader and see if I can figure out how to use it.

Laura, if the Sony eReader you have is newer then 18 months, it should be able to use most of the free ePub digital book loans from the Overdrive system, my city's library allows for a 21 day loan.

Here are the northern and southern California libraries that participate in the program, if yours is on the list your should be able to borrow some books for the Sony eReader.

Eric, the cut is great! I have to say that all three look great.

Angie, sounds like a great day.

Cathleen, a .pdf was my first option, the ePub would have been an extra for Sony eReader and iBook users. I now know to not was my time on the ePub, until more bugs are worked out of the Pages export.

I can't remember if it has been mentioned before, but I have been wondering about tipping in Spain, so have Googled it.

Basically the answer is no or very little. They are paid enough apparently and don't expect anything. You can round up a little at meals or buying drinks. Never tip a taxi driver!!!!

Found this question and answer which will help:

Just curious, am I the only one that takes my own pillow? :magnify:One year, on a different ship, the pillows were gross, even under the pillow case. I couldn't sleep on it and called housekeeping. They agreed the pillows were terrible and took them to bring back clean ones. They didn't return and we had to sleep without any pillows. Since then, I take my own.

I am totally bringing my own pillow. I would have a very hard time sleeping without it.

Perhaps this is a quirk, but we always take foaming anti-bacterial pump soap for the bathroom in our stateroom. I detest washing my hands with a bar of soap. There is just something icky about that to me. I will if I have to if that's my only option, but until Disney puts soap dispensers in the stateroom bathrooms, I pack pump soap!

I also pack anti-bacterial wipes, and the first thing I do when entering our room for the first time is wipe down the remote, all light switches, the menu book. Anything that isn't wiped down and disinfected regularly.

I am not a normal germophobe, but I'm healthy as a horse at home usually, and about a week into the cruise, I always manage to come down with something. I love Disney cruises, because there is always a kid to press the elevator buttons for me (another thing I won't touch on a cruise ship!). :scared1:

I am right there with you! I'm packing anti-bacterial wipes too and I will be wiping down my room also. After the stomach bug I just had, I don't want to risk it on the cruise!

I love Jane Green and have almost all of her books!

She is a great author!

Hey guys. Just checking in. I gave up trying to keep up with all of you I think about 5 threads ago. :rotfl: Now I just lurk for a couple pages to be sure I'm not missing anything big.

Anyway today I realized that we are gonna be on the ship for all the fall premieres! Don't know if this has been shared/talked about yet... so here's the list in case you're interested. I wonder if they'll show all of these live, or if they'll air them later/earlier on ariel vision, etc?? Any thoughts or past experiences??? This is all depending on the satellite of course.

I just want to introduce myself. My name is Brenda, and I'm traveling with my husband Brian. We are from Wisconsin. We did the EBTA in 2007, and it was a lot of fun. This time we are looking forward to gaining hours instead of losing them due to the time changes. We love cruising.

I have some medical treatments before this cruise, and my dog is also having surgery on her mouth. Hopefully everything goes well. We are really looking forward to this vacation.

Brenda

Welcome! I hope all of the procedures go well!

I love the HP books; have read all of them numerous times. And as for Wicked, I did finish it but it almost felt painful. I just don't know what the big deal is with that story. Not my thing, I guess :confused3.

I read the book and didn't really enjoy it...HOWEVER I LOVED the musical! It's very different from the book and it's amazing!

Hi, I hope you are all doing well.

I got some pretty flowers from my co-workers today and wishes for a speedy recovery http://twitpic.com/2ip38w

I also got good news from my doctor they got the report from pathology and as suspected the cyst was not cancerous. It was the largest cyst that my Dr. and his partner who assisted with the surgery have ever seen and were very surprised I was not having more symptoms. They drained about 2 and a half gallons of fluid from it and it had lots of blood vessels to it and that is why they kept me overnight at the hospital.

I am doing alright. I have some abdominal pain. I thought I might have a uti so I am on am antibiotic for that and drinking lots of liquids.

Welcome Brenda and good luck with all of your medical procedures.

Glad to hear that it was not cancerous... I'm sure that is a very big relief for you.

So today was totally wasted by a stomach bug that I picked up somewhere. Yesterday I was feeling funny but I thought it was the new injectable medicine I just started. I worked at the Disney Store last night and I felt pretty bad the entire night. When I finally got home, I started to feel really sick and sadly I didn't really sleep much at all last night. I sent my poor husband away for the day so he doesn't catch it too. I hate, hate, HATE being sick.

Although I felt sick all day, I found out some news that truly made me sicker. My sister called me this morning and told me that a mother of one of her former student's passed away on Thursday. She was only 33 and had three children, one who is only 2. My sister was really torn up about it. A couple of hours later, I was going through my Facebook and I saw my one friend hadn't posted anything for a while so I went to her page. I started reading her wall and people were posting about "missing her" and that they "would see her in heaven". Here my friend who is just days younger than me passed away in April. I went to college with her and she was the kindest person who cared about everyone. She suffered from anorexia for years and sadly I think it was her heart that gave out, though I don't know for sure. It makes me sad to think that Nikki isn't here anymore. She always loved ladybugs so whenever I see a ladybug from now on, I'll think of her.

I hoping to get some cruise related things down tomorrow. I'll have to see how I feel...I'm finally hungry again but I'm eating very carefully because I don't want a repeat performance of last night.

I hope everyone is doing well! :)

Thanks! We are so accustomed to tipping everyone that it is hard to think none at all. :upsidedow Ok then...55 Euros for the taxi! :thumbsup2
