Good thing Disney doesn't mind us bringing our own alcohol on board. Are there any duty free shops in Barcelona? Or is it not too expensive at a regular shop near the port?

There's 2 good shops in the port - or at least I thought they were good priced compared to the UK! We got a bottle of lime vodka (not brand I knew) for 7 Euros (can't find the symbol key) and some sangria for about 2 Euros. My Dad got some great whiskey (not sure brand) for around 10 Euros that was cheaper than back home.

We didn't notice any duty free shops in the town as I think they are like the UK and Duty free shops tend to be restricted to Airports or Ports. The shops in the port weren't huge but the selections were great!

HI all,
I am back from a 4 day trip to Colordao/Wyoming to handle paperwork before the big move (Friday). Came home to find Rio had broken his wrist Friday but his grandparents subsribed to the old wives' tale that if you can move it it is not broken and did nothing about it (not even telling me). So, spent the morning at the doctor's. It is too swollen to cast but is splinted now and will be cast Wednesday. It's always an adventure around here:rolleyes:

Welcome back. Poor Rio. When are you flying now? You'll have to be careful with the cast as you can get swelling under there on long haul flights so make sure he keeps moving it as much as he can during the flight and drinks lots of fluids

Well its been all fun and games our end! My heating was playing up last week so the landlord came and tightened one of the pipes in it (I know safety first right lol). Well got home last night to find that the heating pressure had dropped from 1.9 in the morning to 0.6 which meant that the boiler was flashing red and there was no heating. Assuming it was this slow leak again we upped the pressure above the 1 bar as it insists on being on the instructions and turned it back on. Then we had a waterfall under the boiler as the pipe started spewing out black water! We phoned the letting company again who phoned the landlord (who lives upstairs but me and Dan both are afraid of his wife/gf as when we've popped up and asked for anything she glares at us). He came down and informed us that what he did on Friday basically broke the pipe so he has to order a new washer and wont be able to fix it Friday. He put it to bar 1 and said it should last ok just keep topping it up (great when its freezing cold this week). We tried out his theory and it lasted an hour so me and Dan gave in and both of us have had to go home! Messes up our week but there was nothing more we could do! ARG! Stupid boiler!

Anyway that's my rant over with. Now a proper question, fuel surcharge? Any news?

HI all,
I am back from a 4 day trip to Colordao/Wyoming
I think Rio did it on purpose so that you never leave him with the grandparents again ;)

Plenty of places on the "La Rambla"
Good, sounds like we will be stocking up from port to port till the long haul across the pond.:cool1: I knew there would be a wealth of knowledge about places to buy alcohol. So who has the GPS coordinates for the best prices?:thumbsup2

Well its been all fun and games our end!
That's horrible:furious: So do you get reduction in rent for the days that your home is not livable?

Ack, that's terrible. Hope it gets sorted out quickly!

Hadley, give Rio hugs from all of us. Poor little guy. And poor mommy. Gee, it's not like you don't have much on your plate!

Hadley, I haven't been around much the last couple of days because I've been having a constant headache due to a sinus infection, but I've been thinking about you and the move! Give Rio a big hug from me!

Today was my first day back at work since my surgery. It went well, I wasn't as tired as I thought I would be. Tonight/tomorrow we're supposed to get a snow/ice storm so getting into work tomorrow should be fun! :)

I am so sorry! I know from experience how frustrating and COLD it can be when you don't have heat. November 2007 our furnace started acting up and when the repair man came he said that there was no more putting off getting a new one - the one that we had was over 60 years old, an old coal buring stove that had been converted to gas - and my MIL started having fits about how they just don't make things the way they used to and that we were going to have to replace it (Keep in mind that we live in a two family house that has been in my DH's family for almost 80 years and his grandfather is the one that converted the stove) But before they could get us the new one we had to have all the asbestos removed from our cellars - we ended up going 4 days without heat while they did the asbestos removal, air quality testing, waiting for the results and having the new furnace installed. And to make matters even worse our hot water heater died right in the middle of all this!

Plenty of places on the "La Rambla" to buy and at good prices , just dont wait till Sunday to buy when none of them our open like I did last trip ...but plenty of places to buy in Gibraltar as well ...lol

Budget and San Francisco are not usually used in the same sentence.

Depends on where in SF you want to stay. By Fisherman's Warf, the Radisson, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express are pretty decent. In Union Square or Downtown, you'll do better with the smaller boutique hotels, but they will still be pricey. Try Hotel Diva, The Maxwell Hotel or Baldwin Hotel.

Glad you're almost sorted out your hols. I've never been to San Fran so no idea on hotels I'm afraid!

Oh my God I'm so glad I didn't have that issue! Unfortunately our water heating is connected to the regular heating so both have gone!

I'll have to remember that one ;) . And for me, it would be followed by "Donde esta el bano?" (sorry, don't have accents or tildes on my keyboard)

Thank goodness you had somewhere you could go to stay warm and safe. When we lived in upstate NY, there was an ice storm one October that knocked out electricity for 5 days. Since we were on a septic system (which operated on electricity), we couldn't even flush. We also ended up at my mom and dad's. It does help you appreciate the good stuff we have, though.
