Sept. 11, 2011 It's never too early to Dream

In place of a pool, I know what you can do Donna after mowing your lawn. Put your garden hose out in your yard with your sprinkler head on it. Go inside, put on your swimming suit...........go back outside and turn on the water and run thru the water from your sprinkler. You will be doing three things at once. First - you will be watering your lawn and Second - you will be cooling yourself off, and Third - you will be getting some additional exercise. You can thank me later for that little bit of information!!!:lmao:

:lmao::lmao::lmao: OMG, are you sure that you are not my future son-in-law in disguise? That is exactly something that he would say! But no, it can't be because I can't imagine him getting annoyed by grass clumps.

So, grass is done. I was forced to bag the back yard. It was just too long to mulch. I cheated in front and just mulched it. Then I used a trick I remember by dad doing...I spread out the clumps with a rake. Bet DH doesn't even notice. He will be too annoyed by the four big bags of grass clippings which will now be sitting along side the garage until garbage pick up comes around again next Monday.:lmao: That is another of his pet peeves. I shouldn't be picking on him so much as I am the one who gets easily annoyed. He really is an easy going guy.:thumbsup2 I'm sure if my future son-in-law is reading this he will all too readily agree.

Donna

I'm of the philosophy that the Wives Know best! Leaving the cuttings from grass on the lawn, helps to continually reseed the lawn, keep it healthy (unless you've grown your blades of grass so tall, then it's just a real mess when mowing).

Donna, my DD's teacher told me he had Hodgkins lymphoma (or non) can't remember which, when he was younger, and had since married and had a family. I wasn't aware it was a cancer that can't really be gotten rid of. I pray your DH never has a recurrence of it. Yes Chemo is a Nasty Nasty, but unfortunately much needed therapy. My daughter had a name for one of the Nasty kind she had. It's real name was Vincristine, but DD nicknamed it "Mean Christine". It was a drug that made every joint in her body HURT LIKE HECK for several days after getting that through her port. One drug, call PEG, short for Peg-asparaganase, (we called it Asparagus, LOL), she became severely Allergic to. But the first reaction didn't occur till 7 days after she had those injections, so the doctors had no clue what she was reacting to. The next time she got it, she reacted 5 hours after it was injected. This was a drug that MANY people are allergic to, so they monitor you for 1/2 and hour after getting it. My daughter, unlike other people, always reacted to everything DIFFERENTLY than the normal person's body would. The reaction she experienced was swelling lips the first time. We gave her Benadryl and took her to the hospital. They monitored her for a few hours. The benadryl had worked because by the time we got there, the swelling was gone. The next time was funny (in retrospect) because that was the night we had a friend over to shave DD's head. DD had had a treatment day earlier that day. Her hair was really falling out in clumps, and her hair was long. So she decided it best to get the rest all cut off, as she hated waking in the mornings to find clumps of hair left on her pillow. So the friend came over, and shaved her head. DD later went to see her self in the bathroom mirror then yelled for me to come to her. When I got there, it looked like she was crying. I thought she was crying for the loss of her hair. Then she said "NO, I'm Laughing because it LOOKS like I"m Crying, but I'm not!" Thats when I noticed her whole face was really red, her eyes were swelling, her lips were now really swollen and I recognized she was having an allergic reaction. I rushed downstairs to call the Oncologist On Call, and as I was talking to her, DD came down the stairs and said her Tongue felt funny. OH MY GOSH, NOW I was SCARED :scared1: We were told to NOT go to the Children's Hospital but to get some Benadryl into her ASAP and rush her to the Adult Hospital which was closer. All turned out well, Benadryl worked.

But now the doctors were wondering what in heck she was allergic to. I kept telling them it was the PEG. But they kept saying she would react within the hour of getting it if that were the case. I told them that they should know by now DD doesn't react normally, lol. So they decided as a precaution, that they would admit her overnight for the next injection of that stuff. Good thing they did too! 4 hours after getting the injections, she began with red dots appearing on her arms. She started coughing and vomiting (which is normal after chemo of any kind). She then started to complain that "it hurts" as she pounded her chest. Both the nurse and I thought it was heart burn from the vomiting, so Nurse went to get her some Antacid tablets. When she came back, DD was really complaining that it hurts then she shouted, "IT"S HARD TO BREATHE". WELL, say that in a hospital and see howm many Nurses and doctors come flying into the room! THey quickly stuck that do-hickey thing on her finger, that reads oxygen levels. Her level was WAY DOWN LOW. I knew then she was in trouble, the nurses knew it, so I backed away against the wall and let them do what they do best, save a life! They had epipens and bendadryl for the IV and Oxygen mask and wow, it was a BLUR of MOTION. I think I just Froze, it was like I was watching a movie, and there was nothing I COULD do but watch. THis time the reaction had skipped the swelling lips and tongue and had gone straight to her lungs, seazing them up!
They worked on her and the medicines counter acted the reaction and then she broke out in Hives from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet! WHAT a night that turned into. She was in SO much discomfort (that dosen't even describe it) that night from the hives. She had them EVERYWHERE, even on her eyelids and inside her eyelid and Everywhere else that skin exists on the body. THe next day, the Chief of Oncology came in and shook her head. Yes, DD Reacts the Opposite that normal people do. (TOLD YA SO!)
So big decision to make. Obviously this drug now will cause an anaphalactic reaction in her, so she can't have it. But it was deemed to be such an important part of her protocol. The team at CHEO once every so many months meets with similar teams from all across Canada and the U.S. DD's case was brought up there. There was another form of this drug, that they might try but it's only available in the U.S. but would arrange to get it for her if deemed necessary. In the end the whole Combined teams decided that her reaction was so bad, it woudn't matter What form she was given the drug in, her body would reject it, and thus it's not going to do her any good, and the risk to her life was also too great. So they pulled it completely from her protocol.

I look back on that night and I think, thank GOD they made the plan to admit her for monitoring that time, because if they hadn't, I would have sat at home thinking for too long that it was heartburn, and probably wouldn't have even thought to call an ambulance till it was too late. I honestly don't think she would be here today, if they had NOT admitted her that night!

Sorry for the long story, sometimes I get carried away with the memories. I can somewhat laugh at the incident now. I regret not having my camera with me that evening (I ALWAYS had my camera with me throughout her treatment), but not that night. I Wish I had a photo of her lying in that bed with the hives. I've never seen anything like it, and probably never will again. To show her what she looked like, how bad it was, she was curious as to what I saw, and words don't realy do it.

A friend was just over to visit, and DD came home early from school. She walked in the door, and wow, I don't know if it was the way she has her hair today, or her makeup, or her the clothes she had on, but just looking at her I thought WOW, she really IS Beautiful. Then I said to my friend "you know, I just don't get it. I'm not that gorgeous and heck neither is DH, so HOW did we get such a Beautiful Daughter?"
Yes she can drive us nuts some times, but When she's grown and gone off on her own, I'm really going to miss those driving me nuts moments!

Yes, tj, that is what I tell Harry about lawn clippings...it is best to leave them on the lawn if you want healthy grass.:goodvibes

Wow, that is one scary story about your DD! I am so glad that it all worked out in the end.:thumbsup2 Vincristine was one of five drugs that Harry was on. He still has joint and bone pain. That prednisone is really nasty too. Heck, all the drugs are nasty, it's just that some are worse than others. Harry's blood sugar would skyrocket after the prednisone and he had to go on a diabetic diet and keep checking his blood sugar. His doctor is a bit concerned that he might be predisposed to diabetes so he needs to lose a bit of weight. As nasty as chemo was he never lost his appetite.:thumbsup2

Just to clarify, hodgkins is curable. Certain forms of non-hodgkins are also curable but Harry has follicular non-hodgkins which is not curable. I am learning way more than I ever wanted to know about this. It is a very odd cancer as it can shrink whereas most cancers will just continue to grow. The doctor explained that follicular non-hodgkins is slow growing but harder to treat whereas other forms of non-hodgkins grow faster but have are more successfully treated. They call the time in between treatments "watch and wait". They don't treat the cancer unless it is causing symptoms or spreading too much. It is possible to go years without needing more treatment. Of course, that is what we are hoping for. It is very challenging to not get totally consumed with worry. We do feel more hopeful now that he had an encouraging CAT scan.:thumbsup2 We are really looking forward to this cruise and are ready to party:

Donna

:)Hello, everyone!!

It sure has been busy around here. I've been keeping up with the posts, but just haven't done much posting. But I thought I would stop by and let y'all know that in addition to the DH and I, we'll also have 5 more cruisers with us. My sis-in-law, her husband, and their daughter and son and the daughter's boyfriend will be joining us as well. My sis-in-law and her daughter actually cruised with us last year on the Magic, so this will be their 2nd Disney cruise, but the first for the rest of the crew!

tj-Those pics are awesome! I'm very impressed. I hope to one day have a SLR camera and be able to take pics like those! And I'm also very glad to hear that your DD is doing well after all that she's been through. I couldn't help but cry when reading the post about her reaction. I can't imagine how scary that was!

Donna--I'm praying for your DH.

TJ, that was some story of what your DD had to go thru. I am so glad to hear she is doing great now. We can tell by your description of your DD of the strong bond the two of you have.
Several years ago we lost DW's mother to breast cancer. She fought hard and it was a long hard battle for her. She found a lump and let it go for over a year before she said anything to anyone. She finally told DW and DW took her to the doctor. She was afraid to say anything to anyone. She let it go knowing what it more then likely was. That is why we need to see our doctor's on a regular basis and tell them everything. If she had done this who knows what the outcome would have been. We both miss her very much, she was such a special lady.
Good to hear from you again UGFan0829. And you are bring along more cruisers........GREAT!!!! I'm sorry i can't remember, but are you doing the back2back on this cruise? It's nice having your family joining you on a cruise. DW and I are tickled pink that our DD and her family are cruising with us.
Well, have to go for now. Everyone have a great evening.:cheer2:

Unfortunately, we're only going for the 4 night. I wish we could do the back-to-back, but we're just happy that we'll be cruising again and on the Dream!!

I hope everyone is having a good day so far today.:thumbsup2 I know, I know, it's early yet but guys I've been awake for hours now.:confused3 Looks like it might rain here some today. But that's ok we can always use the rain.

UGAFan0829 I know what you mean. Originally we were going to take the 4 day cruise. Had it booked and looking forward to it. Like you we were glad to be cruising with Disney again and to be on one of the new ships, well that was just icing on the cake.:banana: I got on the DIS here and was reading about how a couple of other cruisers were going to do a back2back - the 4 day then the 3 day right after. The more I thought about it the more I like that idea.:cool1::cool1: I checked into it, (without DW's knowledge I might add), and found it was not that much more. So I got in touch with our TA and set it up, (again with out DW's knowledge). When I told her, she said she didn't know why I didn't do that earlier, she had thought of it too. (Smart minds think alike I guess).:lmao::lmao: (Me with a smart mind..........now that is funny!!!!!:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

Well, all, better get busy here at work. Hope you have a great day.

My day has started off just wonderfully! It's easy to think that way when the Sun is out and the sky is blue and it's spring! I don't recall being able to wear Shorts, t-shirts and Capris this early in the season last year. In fact, I remember being at our Church Plant sale which is Mothers Day weekend, and it was Bloody COLD. It was WINDY, RAINY and COLD, SO COLD, we were wearing winter coats!
Well that would be this weekend coming up for this year and the weather is the complete opposite! I'm enjoying it!

I played a word game with DS6 the other night. He was bored, it was a half hour to his bedtime and his older brothers had just taken off to play soccer in the park. He wanted to go to, but thems is the rules. Time to wind down not wind up, that close to bedtime. So we snuggled on the couch and played a word game. For this game, you Go through the Alphabet, starting with the first letter. You take turns saying a word that starts with that letter, and keep going till you get stuck and can't think of another word (goes quick with a 6yr old LOL). Well we finished up with the letter E and I asked him what letter comes next. He figured it out and said "F". I told him he can start, think of a word that starts with the Letter F.
WELL, He suddenly got this biggest Grin on his face, giggled and looked right at me and said " A BAD WORD". :rotfl2:Then he laughed and laughed.
Oh My! Was this a teaching moment :rotfl: I told "Yes, that is correct, and Thank You for NOT SAYING the word" :rotfl2: From a 6 year old, Well, I learned something that day!

TJ, that is funny what your son said.:lmao::lmao: Out of the mouth of babes. Ya never know just what is going to come out of their mouths do ya.

Well, so far no rain here yet today. We sure could use some too. Usually the spring is one of our drier times of the year. And the summer, well we usually get those afternoon down pours. The past few years we have had kind of a dry spell here during the summer. So anytime we can get some rain we usually are dancing for joy!!!:banana::banana:

Well hello everyone from sunny Florida.:cool2: Yep, you got it we got exactly ZERO rainfall yesterday. And, you know the weatherman personally promised me we would get some rain. Hhhhmmmmmmmmmm...............me thinks weatherman didn't keep his promise. Oh well........whatcha goin' to do!!!!

Got DW something special for Mom's day Sunday. Hope all my fellow Dad/Husband cruisers got their DW's something special for Mother's Day. I even got something for my 4 year old grandson to give his Mom for Mother's Day. I think I did pretty good this year.:yay::yay: I'm athinkn' both will be very happy Sunday!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Well, gots to go and get to workn'. Everyone have a good day today.

Sounds like Sunday will be a very special day for you David, Or for your Wife I mean! Me, this weekend is another reminder of why I'm quitting my nursing job. I only work every 2nd weekend, but ALWAYS get called in on my weekends off and during the week too. Well this weekend is actually my regularly scheduled weekend to work. I'll be out of the house in the morning before any of the rest of my family is even awake, so no breakfast in bed for me. Perhaps I'll get a nice dinner, but then DH does most of the cooking in this house anyway. So perhaps every day is somewhat a moms day for me in that aspect? LOL.

I have just taken on board the annual Fundraiser for our Children's Hospital that was started by a family with a child with Cancer. It's a Giant Garage Sale and has run so far for 8 years in a row. Last year we raised $13,000 for CHEO, (it was a down year). The previous year, we raised $17,000 !
The current Co-ordinator is going through a divorce, and obviously this is a stressful time for her. After thinking long and hard, and stressing myself out about it, I figured after I started DREAMING about it, and planning it out in my dreams, that perhaps I'm SUPPOSED to run it this year. Change of Venue though, as normally it's held every June. I've moved it to late Sept. I know have the Facility and the web designer. Now I have to contact CHEO FOUNDATION and rack up volunteers, and gather sponsors. WOW, BUSY BUSY BUSY. But, it IS something to occupy my time till our Cruise on the Magic this October! :)

Hi everyone!! I haven't had time to post lately but I'm keeping up with the thread.
TJ, I'm glad to hear your daughter is better, I couldn't imagine having to go through that with one of my kids.
Mom, quit picking on dad! That's for me to do. Anyways you complain a lot more but I better watch what I say here you might yell at me:guilty: I wouldn't want to upset you so close to Mother's Day;)
David, you remind me so much of my DF it's sooo funny.:rotfl: I wish he would get back to this soon. He's been too tired to keep up with the thread. I'l have to fill him in.

Time to take DD's cat that can't lose a fight to the vet for more stitches!!

Have a Great Day everyone!!!!

I can't give DW:love: breakfast in bed either TJ. The last time I tried that she spilled the whole thing all over herself, the bed and me too. (Guess you can dress some people up..........but you can't take them out anywhere!):lmao:
P.S................she blamed it on one of those dear, sweet, lovable, affectionate, darlings of a cat we have. Uuuhhhhhhhh sure dear!!!!:rotfl::rotfl2: I didn't see any cat................and she said of course you would take their side!!!!!

Wow TJ you sure are going to be busy. But, that sounds like a very worthy cause you have taken on there. My hats off to you. We support our local chapter for Autism. Our one grandson has a mild form of Autism. He is one of the sweetest little guys:love: you would ever meet. He has a special place in our hearts.

Hey Shannon1984 DF sounds like a very special guy. I'll bet he is good looking, kind, gentle, would help any and everyone, one of the nicest people you would ever meet...........and did I mention good looking too!!!!

Well, break time is over. Time flies when you are having fun!!!!

Good late morning/early afternoon everyone! I'm amazed at how fast this thread has taken off and grown. My DH and I just booked a 4-night cruise on the Wonder for this September, and when I went and joined that thread, there isn't much going on...and that cruise is a lot sooner than this one!! At least I know there are going to be some fun peeps on this cruise!!;)

Yes!! I'm Sorry, for some reason I have been really tired the last couple days....Just working hard trying to get this cruise paid for, and to help pay for this stupid cat's stiches for the 18th-ish time! We own the world most expensive cat. And David, All of your key points are correct..You are spot on! :thumbsup2 Glad to hear everyone is well, I will try to keep up better, or I'll just have Shannon do it while I sleep on the couch! :)

Yep! Actually Shannon and I are getting married on board of this cruise. It will be a good time for sure! I'm nowhere near perfection, actually not even in the neighborhood of perfection, but for some reason she likes me so I'm going with it:hug:... She is actually in the process of trying to glue me together, we will see how far that goes. :laughing:She is doing a pretty good job so far though. :thumbsup2

Don't you just love hearing that word!! LUNCH!!!!

You know I do remember now reading one of the previous posts that you two are getting married on the ship. That is great you guys. Are you getting married on the ship or on Castaway Cay? Either one would be great. Congratulations to the two of you!!!! I hope you two have as many happy years together as DW:love: and I have. We're going on 44 years happy years together.

Well Goof, it is ok if I call you goof isn't it??!!? Be careful that she don't use any duct tape to hold you together. Man -o- man does that ever hurt when she pulls it off. My DW loves hearing me scream like a little girl when she pulls off the duct tape!!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1: And she always has this smirk on her face..............reminds me of the Evil Queen!!!!:scared1:

My DH's secret nickname is GOOFY! It's his favourite Character too!

Well, today I finally added the rest of the fam damily to the first leg of our cruise, so now THEY are official! Next month (I get paid once a month) they will all be added to the 2nd half of our B2B. Now I'm broke, OH Also paid a HUGE chunk of my Income Tax that I owe as well. Feels good to have all this taken care of though, even if I am now broke!
DH actually took it pretty well when I told him (noticed I didn't say ASK, LOL) he will HAVE to use his whole tax refund to pay my taxes owing. Well I thought it pretty fair since I've used my income to pay for our cruise last fall, this fall and next fall, as well as the new furnace, central air and 7 new windows on our home. He took it better than I thought he would. Honestly I"ve never owed this much in taxes before, but glad to have it taken care of!

And DS17 FIANLLY picked a College! FIANALLY he has a plan for the fall (if all goes well, I don't need to worry about shipping him to Grandma's while we cruise, as the college he picked means he's MOVING!) OK, I'm NOT totally exicted about the moving part, but he does want to strech his wings, and I must let him. It'll be good I know, for him. Paying his own rent, bills and food, he'll finally realize how great he has it at home!
NOW, to work on DD18!
