*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

Grrrrr....:headache: I was really hoping to leave complete information at home with friends & family before we left - that includes a Stateroom Number! :headache:

Oh well, I guess it'll just be a nice surprise when we get there! :flower3:

Maybe you could text them your room number from the Port.

Hopefully it won't come to that & you will get the cabin #s before.

I'll add you to my GTY list. :)

If you are willing to be the keeper of the GTY homeless that would be great. We could still get them one week out, at least that tends to be our experience with GTY, but Disney may wait until we get to port. We will find a way to get it to you day 1, but hopefully sooner!

Amanda

Sure i'll add you too Amanda. Fingers crossed my list won't be needed but i'd sooner be prepared now than than next week when most people will be starting to leave. :)

Sorry still trying to catch up since I haven't had much time in the past couple of days. Our update is that we are now flying to Cincinati to Paris and catching a train to Barcelona. I looked at Expedia and saw the cheapest flight from Paris to Barcelona was $324 which is more expensive then the train. It will be a neat experience on the train though I think. Never really traveled by train unless you count around the Magic Kingdom:lmao:

Our DH's are a bit disappointed that we told them there was not enough time to go to DLP until we reminded them that we are going to be in PARIS!!! The Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Truimph, etc. How can you go wrong with that? We were looking at the Paris pass. Does anyone have any experience with that?

My DH is designing an awesome magnet. Hopefully he will get it done in time for the cruise. If he gets it done before we leave I will make sure to post it.

How long are you in Paris? And where do you stay.
We use the mobilis for a day. It is much cheaper and you can do zone 1-2 with Metro, Rer and bus unlimited for one day for 6,30 euro per day per person. You can buy this on every metrostation.
There is also the paris visite card for 1 day, or 2, 3 or 5 days.
A one day pass cost 9,30 euro for zone 1-3.

Here a link to RATP cards for one day.

The most attraction of Paris you can find in zone 1.
Only Disneyland Paris, Versailles, and the airports are in zones much further.

Have much fun in Paris. I love that city. And it seems a great adventure to go by train from Paris to Barcelona.

Now the next bit of news isn't quite so good......BUT remember i'm just the messenger so don't shoot me! ;)

I am collecting names & room #'s for the Champagne Girls so I asked my contact what information she needs for those that still have a GTY status and her reply was those that have GTY at this late stage are unlikely to get a cabin number until they check in at the port. :guilty: I know some of you had kind of assumed that anyway but for those that were still hoping, it really doesn't seem too promising.....Sorry. :sad1:

Let's hope this is just one person's idea and not actually going to be the case, and all our friends with GTY get their rooms before then. I sort of understand DCL's reasoning in hoping to get some new cruisers paying the present prices but it is a bit silly to take it to the extreme of the check in day itself. However it is a new offer so who knows? I hope you find out earlier though.

For those taking the Santa Maria tour in Madeira ... did you receive a confirmation email of your booking? I sent mine over a week ago and still haven't heard from them. I'm worried that maybe it got sent to spam or we're really not booked with them as they didn't ask for a credit card.

hi we did get a confirmation email back, but they didnt take our card details as you pay at the dock

Ok i'll start with some good news.....

My contact at DCL has got back to me to confirm that Sessions will definitely be closed to everyone else for the duration of our Champagne Girls event. :cool1:

I guess we need to come up with an efficient way of collecting & circulating these cabin numbers asap. Maybe it would be an idea to have a separate list of those that are taking part in the FE, Secret Mickey, Scrapbook Exchange & the Candy Swap. I am willing to keep the list. People can notify me at either in the Port, 3pm Promenade Lounge meet, Deck 10 Sailaway gathering, write it on my white board room 6507 or call my room & leave a message. Providing everyone notifies me on the first day, I will make sure that all the missing cabin #'s are on my whiteboard for everyone to see from the next day onwards, so you can just stop by and make a note of the one's you need at a time convenient to you.

How does this sound??? If everyone agrees then I suggest all those that are still GTY please PM me and i'll get the list started.

Hi Claire,
The good news is indeed good that we get sessions for our selves.

But I find it a pity that we should get our cabinnumbers on the port. I called DCL a few days ago to pay my gratuities in advence and the lady on the phone said that the assignment will be soon. So they don't know it I assume.
Yes that's what we get if we want for a dime on the front row. (I don't know if this is the right frase of a dutch saying)
Let's hope that we get it before, but if not then we got the list.
You can put me on that list.

Thanks everyone for the hair tips I may have to go shopping yet again to go into claires!!
It's not super short but not long enough to tie back as had about 5 inches cut off!!!

Very excited this week as this is our last full week of work before the cruise. This Saturday I'm getting my hair cut and I'll drop off drycleaning this week. And today I got my "Your Disney Vacation is Almost Here" email from Disney regarding our pre-stay the night before we fly out.:banana::cheer2::cheer2:

Also.. It would be nice if everyone had a magnet with their Dis name on it on their door. That way we know we are leaving our gifts at the right cabin.

If you could see my the alcohol i've already packed & my shopping lists for Barcelona, Gibraltar & St Maarten then you would have no fear that I will be buying it onboard & having them keep it from me! :rotfl2: Just let them try! pirate:

I think someone mentioned this before, but the Eiffel Tower is AWESOME. I remember seeing picture of it for years and thinking it was pretty amazing--but nothing compares to seeing it in person. Of all the landmarks I've been fortunate enough to see, only two things far surpassed my expectations: The Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Grand Canyon in the U.S. Most of time I think "Okay, that looks like I thought it would"--but these two things are worth any amount of trouble to see.

We used the Paris pass (I'm assuming you mean the Paris Museum pass). We purchased it at the airport right near luggage claim I think. Get to Notre Dame early if you plan to climb the tower. That was our favorite place! :lovestruc We stayed at a hotel nearby and this was also close to Austerlitz train station (the one you need to get to Barcelona). Did you look at the seat61 website I mentioned earlier? You will pay alot less there for your train tickets. We paid for our tickets on line, then just picked them up at the train station. Easy peasy. The french web site is all in french, but the seat61 site will walk you thru it. They have quad sleepers that are pretty inexpensive. Not sure how many are traveling with you. If you want, PM me and I'll be glad to answer any questions if I can! :goodvibes

Have much fun in Paris. I love that city. And it seems a great adventure to go by train from Paris to Barcelona.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will do some more research before we book anything. Our plan for the train is to book it as soon as we know we are cleared on the plane going to Paris so that way we are not booking something that we can't use. We will be arriving into Paris at around 6am I think, so we will say 7 by the time we get through customs and everything. We are planning on getting to the train station by 6pm as the train leaves just after 8pm. So about 12 hours in the city. I have thought about just doing the HO-HO bus if we were just exhausted but I don't know what is best to do. Plus we will have a 3 year old with us so I don't want to plan too much in case he wants to take a nap or something. I definitely want to see the Eiffel tower. That is something I have always wanted to see in person. Sinnika I will definitely PM you later to ask any specific questions that I think of. Thanks for the offer of help (as well as to you all)

That's a good idea, i've got a lime green mickey head with Pinky166 on it so you'll know it's my door! :goodvibes

That is a very good idea! Even though we aren't participating in the FE's, I think I'll make a magnet with the DIS name on it.
Something fun for me to do this evening. :thumbsup2

I also checked flights on Kayak. Paris to BCN on 9/9/11 starting at $102 on Vueling Airlines. I thought you were spending at least one night in Paris. And with a child I would recommend flying if possible. The train was great but unless you get your own sleeping car and beds, I wouldn't recommend 2 nights without decent rest.

I think they watch our thread, see us trying to be uber organised and change it just for a laugh :sad2:

I can totally see some DCL CMs with the same warped sense of humor I have lurking on the lists and trying to outdo each other and see who can get the list the most riled up! :rotfl2:

I did not email them, I called them directly. They speak english very well and can help you if you like. I called (from abroad dial first +351) 291220327 or 291225695. Good luck.

ETA They told me I was reserved but I could pay at the dock.

I am bringing a portable printer so maybe I can make a signup sheet for those who don't have cabin numbers so they can tell us their stateroom numbers. I hoping to do a telephone tree so we call each other so maybe that will help as well.

My only concern about the whiteboard is sometimes people erase things thinking it is "funny".

Just my thoughts..

Noel,

I googled Pimm's to see what you're talking about. Looks like the recipe calls for Pimm's and then adding lemonade or ginger ale. Is the "Pimms in a can" a pre-mixed drink, or do you need a mixer to enjoy it?

I am a fan of gin & tonic (with decent gin), most mixed drinks and most wines. Everyone told me I'd learn to like beer as I got older...still waiting...I think it is a bit late to start now! I also never learned to like coffee, but I love tea, either hot or iced.

Pimms in a can is a mixed gin and tonic drink.

I'm almost afraid to ask: Any word on the lanyards?

Karen

Nothing new they have not located lanyards. I am now pressing them to remake and ship Fed Ex.

Is this as good as the real thing? I was just introduced to Pimm's last year and it is now my drink of choice! Does Disney not carry it, or is this more convenient? Does Disney serve Sprite type soda as well as Coke? Of course cucumber and fruit add to the level of satisfaction after they've soaked up all that liquor. Woo-Hoo!

I think the real Pimms is better but it so much cheaper and convenient to buy the cans, pour it over ice it in my room and get the limes from the bar!!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yes a good idea. I have a magnet with our names on it. I have on making with my disname, that's nearly about the same as my real name.

I was planning on keeping a note of the room #'s inside my cabin too, just incase some one did rub it off, i'll still have a copy & can write them back on. :thumbsup2
