Linked Dining

I will be sending the final list to DCL on Thursday Morning. So this means that Linked Dining requests will close at 8am UK time on Thursday 11 August.

Please let me know by PM if you would like to join.

Dan

:)

I am loving some of the terms you Brits use! Karen, I have never heard the term "pissup"--what a great word. Another of my favorites is "gobsmack"--I'm sure there are most likely some American sayings that sound strange to others, but I am totally gobsmacked that we haven't adopted this one.

I've been stuck at home with a nasty cold the last few days, so I've spent way too much on the DISboard myself. I do feel like I already know some of the frequent posters. Can't wait to meet y'all in person.

Claire and Marilyn, you guys changed your avatars and I almost didn't recognize who was on the boards

That is brilliant. I would love to be able to do that.

This is really clever ... perhaps you could show me how to do this on the ship ??

I would like to know how to do it too Sarah....perhaps Karen could give us all a lesson in Cove Cafe. ;)

This is much nicer to give than money in an envelop. Can you learn us?

OK, you guys twisted my arm ... I would be happy to show you how to do it. After all, how does life get any better than sailing on a Disney ship and learning how to fold money at the same time :goodvibes Might be pretty with euros or pounds, so long as it's not plastic like Aussie money.

I too am hoping that Jacqueline is doing ok.

I like 'gobsmack' too, reminds me of when I was a kid we used to say "shut your gob" ... which is to say 'be quiet'

Thanks! I've been on the first pages and am making notes and will PM the organizers to see if there is any space left for me. Kind of daunting cruising with just my 4 year old for the first time!

Would love to join the Fish Extender, Candy Swap, Mixology tastings, etc. I have to search around more to see if there are any events at Palo still open?

Back to planning!

Hi cruisingswedes! I'll put you on the list, but keep posting (5 more time... even in a row if you want) so we can start private messaging. I'll need your reservation number for you cruise and your full name. Keep up the good disboard chat!

Man, I give up, it's impossible to make everyone happy on here, so just going to stop trying. It's not like we're all going to get plastered anyway, so feel free to bring the kids.
Signing off for today as had enough of the dis for one day.

Karen......You've done a wonderful job of trying to coordinate things. Don't let it frustrate you. Exactly as you said......no one can please everyone all the time. You took a job that 95% of us fellow cruisers didn't want......and you've done a great job! You can do no more!:thumbsup2 I'm sure everyone appreciates what all of you "Dis Cruise Co-ordinators" have done and the time you have put into arranging all these meets! Thank you so much!!!! :worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:

Very well put. This trip is going to be great due to the hard work of many of you that have been organizing a lot of events for us. That's why we donated to the lanyard fund - trying to give back just a little bit, albeit in a small way!

High tea lasts about 45 min, an hour if you have several cups of tea or longer if you are with a group of talkers.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT!!!
:rockband::dancer::dancer::dancer:party:

We must have fell in that talker category, think we were there at least 2 hours on the EBTA.

Happy Belated Birthday Pat, sounds like you had a great day!

I'm good - I will send Dan an email to see if he is OK with it, too. I think he is out drinking today at a beer festival from what I can tell from his Facebook posts. :rotfl2:

Beer festival, yum,, err I mean fun!

Here is the text of a post I just saw on the main DCL forum:

When we were on the Magic in May/June, they were doing major upgrades in un-sold staterooms. Host told us that they planned to do this all summer as most of the cruises weren't full and it was one less thing that would need to be done in dry dock. It didn't bother our cruise enjoyment at all. They were changing out the tubs, replacing the cooling boxes with real fridges, replacing couches, etc. Another CM told us that the hold was crammed full of "parts" for this refurbishment.

Of course, this is my first time on the Magic, so I won't be able to tell the difference. I've heard conflicting reports about whether there is an actual refrigerator or just a cooler that looks like a fridge in the room. Anyone know the answer to that one?

They were doing some rehabs, some cabins had notes on the doors about it. Some people did report hearing some construction type noise during the day but not alot. We were on Deck 5 starboard, so one day there was quite a bit of traffic going past our cabin with some fixtures, tools, etc. That is all I really remember.

As for the fridge vs cooler, there is two different kinds on the magic. Some cabins have an actual fridge that gets cold, some still have the old cooler, but if you add some ice like someone suggested it helps. Also for our beer package we had our stateroom host just keep filling up the ice bucket it came in.

Thank you... we are booked up for the Tortola dive but we do have a few spaces left for the Shark dive at St Maarten's. if any one is interested please PM me....

Shark dive? You are nuts! LOL

I think my kids would love doing this - almost like trick or treating, but in reverse - you bring candy to others cabins, then they bring it to you! But I'm not even sure if I can bring candy overseas and through customs, what would travel well, and how much space I would have for it.
I love this description of the candy swap!

Sounds like yesterday was a good shopping day for lots of dissers! DD 15 and I went shopping also. She always finds cute clothes and got a few new tops and jeans for school. I had the dreaded task of finding a new bathing suit.
Today, DS 14 comes home from Rinkaby, Sweden after almost 2 weeks at the World Scout Jamboree. Can't wait to hear all of his stories. He's a long winded story teller.:) A bit disappointed that we got NO emails from him despite the fact they had an internet cafe there. I'm all ready for his excuse - "mom, I didn't know your email address". Its my name.
You really scored with your shopping! I bet your son had an incredible time.

I wonder how Jacqueline is doing? I hope things have got better for her and she pops in and lets us know how she is.
me too

We will be away for a total of 50 days, which is the max our insurance will allow due to health issues with DH. The first cruise is the Disney magic the last one is the QM2 back to the uk both were booked, 50 days start to end and we felt we couldn't take that risk of invalidating the insurance for the extra day, but sure all will be fine
Wow that's quite the trip!

Yay, the more the merrier :) it'll only be me I'm afraid as Gary's working late friday.

So 8pm ish at bluewater? I'm working til 8 so will get changed after work so don't need to sit round in my uniform all night! Where do you fancy meeting? Might be me being biased but think meeting at disney store would probably be best, you can do some shopping plus it's near the wintergarden so easy to park and plenty of places nearby.
Whats everyone thinking when it comes to are we going for dinner or just a drink?

Hope you all have a great time! How fun to be able to meet up ahead of time

Karen, I just wanted to say I appreciate everything you have done. I don't think the nursery post was to make you feel frustrated, they were just pointing out something that at least for me, hadn't occured to us.

I know I saw someone on this board that lived in NYC or traveled there often. I'm wondering if using the discount tix booth, can you get tix for "Wicked," or should you get them ahead of time if you'd like to see that show? We're planning a trip in May to NYC for our anniversary.

Does anyone know if they have robes in the rooms or can you request them?

I think only concierge rooms have robes. We got ours in one of the stateroom gifts available for purchase. I think it was a romance package or something like that.

I have never seen Wicked for a discount at TKTS in NYC, but we did score them for a discount in London. In NYC at the theatre itself, they do offer a lottery system where you go and fill out a form, then they draw for lottery tickets at a set time (I think noon for the 2pm show). You have to be there in person when they calll out names so it does take alot of time. Its the whole first row and my brother has scored tickets this way (they are $25 each). But now they post it in one of the NYC guides so litterally hundereds show up to try to win those 28 discounted seats. I've never bought tickets ahead of time (that's just me) and wait to see what is discounted at the TKTS office and also how bad the lines are. We paid full price for Wicked the day of the show. It was sold out but they open up single seating too right before the performance. If you're a planner and you definitely want to see it, you may want to get your tickets ahead of time. It is such an amazing show! :)

DS 14 is home and sound asleep in his newly arranged room. Mama's been busy while he was gone - I've even added a bookcase so he's got plenty of space for all those high school books! :thumbsup2
He had the most incredible time at the World Scout Jamboree and it was so exciting to see all the scouts come off the plane, all in uniform, but many traded from other countries. There were hats from China, the Phillipines, scout shirts from Colombia, Algeria, Nigeria, but my DS made me the most proud when he sported his scout shirt from Finland! He even scored a Finnish scout jacket and hat. I almost cried! His troop couldn't figure out why he wanted Finnish items, since his last name is Chinese (DH is half asian). He took lots of pics and talked about his trip the entire evening till he laid down on the couch and fell instantly asleep! :) He's got marching band in the morning, and I hope he survives this heat, coming from cold rainy weather in Sweden for 2 weeks to Texas HOT, HOT, HOT!!!:scared1:

Yes all of hard work by those who are organising and co-ordinating events is greatly appreciated .... thank you :worship::worship::worship:

It must be a wonderful feeling having him home .... I can't wait until Taryn returns home at the end of September.

That was pretty cool! Dennis hadn't seen it before. He kept saying, "Is that it? It's really moving?" What can I say - he's an analog guy in a digital world.

I just asked him if he thought we shouldn't have cancelled the October cruise, and he said, "Nah, I'd rather go to the parks for a week." Did I mention we finally decided to go to Vicky and Bert's for our anniversary? I think we're going to do the wine pairing, too. I couldn't believe he said we should do it!

I'm glad you booked V&A's, i've heard so many great things about it. I'll let you into a little secret....we are going a few nights after the cruise! :ssst: it's a surprise for Lee. ;)

I have to agree ..... the Dream looks too top heavy ... too much white above the dark blue in my opinion. Still looks better than most other ships though. The Magic & Wonder are definitely the most beautiful looking ships in existence.

I agree the Magic & Wonder are stunning. Personally I think the Dream looks better in real life than in photos, it doesn't look so top heavy when you see the size of it.

 Sorry to confuse you. I watched my Tangled dvd again yesterday & I just love Pascal & Maximus so decided to have a change of pic for a while. :)

:woohoo: That will be fun, thanks.

I keep meaning to ask you Sarah, how is Taryn getting on? Is she still liking it or is she homesick? I love looking at Bethan's photos, she seems to be having so much fun. :)

Look what just arrived!!!!!!! :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :cool1:  :cool1: :dance3: :yay: :woohoo:

:cool1::cool1:And there goes the Disney Dream, but I can't help but feel that the Disney Magic looks so much more majestic than her younger sister

Margaret

I so agree. However sparkling, new and full of great extras the Dream like all the other bigger ships now, she is top heavy and looks like a container ship. At least they gave her shape at the back and not just that ugly straight up wall. The Magic and Wonder are like the majestic liners of old and they won't build them like that again with the need for getting as many rooms as possible on a ship.

I like 'gobsmack' too, reminds me of when I was a kid we used to say "shut your gob" ... which is to say 'be quiet'

Oh, I used to say that too.:blush:

We can try for friday (Fiscal Year End for Bruce so may not happen), but we can make saturday now if thta works better for you guys.

Either way we will try from Friday.

:-)
Dan

hope you can make it.

so what was the decision then? seems to be that no-one is particularly interested in dinner, so shall we just go for a couple of drinks?
