Did I read somewhere that if you are sailing in Cat. 3 or above that there is a seperate waiting lounge at the terminal? Thanks for your help!

Across from where the line forms in the front of the terminal near the opening to the ship there's a place for passengers in cat. 3 and up to sit and wait for boarding. They are the first to board.

The area you are speaking of is not really a "seperate" area. The seating area is outside of the food area and you will find many people wandering about. The seats are also located right near the doors to go out and look at the ship. Many people have part of their party wait in line while some wander around, probably the only way to keep young children entertained during the wait. Once boarding begins the area really clears out to only those cat. 3 and higher and those eligable for first boarding (wheelchairs, etc.).

On our recent cruise there was this very annoying person in that area and out on the balcony smoking. His wife was in an ECV. When they boarded the handicapped people (this happens even before concierge, which we were) this family was racing through with the wife actually running over the feet of the other handicapped person. Of course, once on board the woman was seen walking all over the ship without any assistance. She even walked up and down the stairs.

Is it really that important to be first on board? Or one of the first?

That's unbelievable...or is it? How many people have you seen at the parks that rent a wheelchair and take turns pushing eachother around while jumping to the head of the ride/attraction lines??

As far as the separate waiting area, it is as mentioned above. Actually, concierge cruisers just don't have to wait in the line and do board first (after handicap). There is the sitting area as described in the other posts but you can go wherever you would like and it's not reserved for anyone in particular.

how exactly do they do the handicapped boarding? Do they tell you when you check in or do they do a loud call for handicapped boarding?
Is it just for for those who are in handicapped rooms? we are traveling with my sister (who is handicapped and booked in a handicapped room) - we are in separate rooms, but there is no way she can get around on that ship completely by herself for long periods of time with all that walking. She isn't wheelchair bound, but is sometimes in a wheelchair and will most likely be in one at the time (we are bringing it regardless). What time would first boarding be?
Would our whole party go on? (there's five of us including sister) Don't wanna aggravate anyone in line.

polkadotladybug: Handicapped persons are allowed to board first, and concierge boards next. Regardless of whether your sister is booked in one room and you in another you will be allowed to board with her. HTH
