I was taken to emergency on Friday at 2:30 a.m. as I was having such bad pain in my stomach/waist area, I couldn't breathe. DH and DS insisted I go, so I went, under protest. Well, the pain was so bad, they put me on Morphine (for the 1st time ever, yuk) that the Morphine barely did anything for it. After many blood test, ultrasound and x rays it turns out I am having a severe gall bladder attack-cholecytitis. Not very common. I need to have my gall bladder removed. I chose to come home late last night, as it didn't make a difference where I was in pain. I am still in a lot of pain, but a lot less than initially. I am on pain killers and anti biotics. Now, here's where the PD comes in. WE are scheduled to leave on the 26th for Disney and on DCL on the 30th. My surgeon is telling me NOT TO GO! WHAT! I wish the pain would go away long enough for me to go and enjoy our family trip and then come home to surgery. That I'm okay with. I have never had any kind of medical issues before, and this just bites!
Thanks for listening to the ranting, but I'm really quite upset (and in pain). Christmas is almost here.

I've had gall bladder attacks (and have had my gall bladder removed a few years ago).

I know how severe the attacks can be (plus they can be activated by specifc foods).

My fear for you, since you've been told by a doctor not to go on your vacation, you may be ineligible for any out of country medical insurance (your stamach pain is now a pre-existing condition). Your chance of further attacks are high, until your gall bladder is removed. The cost of treatment in the USA (and on a ship) are VERY high.

On an aside, I found that by limiting my consumption of foods with fat, limited my gall bladder attacks (to help you manage until you have surgery). I had my first attack after eating a bag of potato chips.

I wish you luck in healing, but more than likely you won't be covered for insurance as you now have a pre-existing condition. Does the hospital or the surgeon know you are planning on leaving for vacation? If so, they will more than likely notify OHIP that you are at risk, and this means that if you decide to go and have any health issues, you are totally on your own for all medical expenses. My grandpa had open heart surgery 8 weeks ago, and he still has a hold on his OHIP account, as he normally is in Florida for 6 months as he's a snowbird. Since he doesn't have the money to pay for medical expenses, and they would surely be in the thousands upon thousands for heart issues, he is basically not allowed to leave Canada as his doc has not given his permission. If he does and something happens, he will be on the hook for any and all health bills.

I hope all goes well for you. Healing hugs sent your way, Tiger

I don't know anything about health insurance but I have had my gall bladder removed. If you are really, really careful about what you eat you can avoid the attacks. Higher fat foods will trigger an attack without a doubt but I also found that acidic food would make me very uncomfortable also.

Good luck and I hope you feel better very soon.

I am sorry to hear about your pain and upcoming surgery. Hopefully, then can get you in soon to have it fixed up. Can you possibly reschedule for Spring Break? I know it is not the same as you want to be there for the Xmas holidays. Keep us posted about what happens. :santa:
