Selling some equipment?

I'm thinking about going big and buying the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II. The $2,400 price tage is pretty steep though, so I'm trying to convince myself that if I sell some stuff that I don't use much, that it will soften the cost to me.

So where do people sell their equipment - Ebay or is there a better used equipment place to sell? Do any of the big sites (B+H, Adorama, JR, Beach) offer decent value on sale/trade-in?

I have an old body and 4-5 lenses I should probably part with to fund the new lense. I'm not posting the details because I don't want to look like I'm posting an ad for sale (I assume that would be against the rules).

Thanks

the big sites do buy or take trades, but they offer less than you could possibly sell for, since they need to make a profit re-selling used stuff..

ebay, craigslist or a brand specific photo forum could be good options.

photocamel is a good forum that has a marketplace on it

Only communication is you and the buyer. No middle man for fees or anything. I actually bought a Sigma 30mm from here; and had no problems with the deal.

Adorama do; they offer about 70% of what they think they can sell the gear for.

But if you call or email them they'll send you a pre-paid shipping label so it doesn't cost you anything to get them to appraise it.
If you don't like their offer they'll send it back to you - and they pay the shipping & insurance.
They will usually offer you a bit more if you're trading up (& my advice is always to try & bargain with them for a bit more!).
Good person to talk to there is Jacob in the used dept.

I would sell Canon gear on a Canon forum like

I have bought and sold camera gear (lens, bags) on Ebay with no problems. I had considered selling through KEH, B&H, etc, but the price they offered was too low. I did better through Ebay (buying and selling).

You might even consider buying the 70-200 used to save money. I got the 100-400 for more than half off retail and it was practically new (used only a few times, so claimed). I would only buy from someone with a good rating, good feedback, and offered returns if I wasn't happy.

I also just picked up the Canon 10-22 through Best Buy. I printed the Amazon page showing the lowest price, took it in, asked if they would match it (which they did and have in the past), then used a 12% off coupon. Not only did I save $, I also got reward points towards more Best Buy coupons!

Wow, lol, I'd say so! Bit then again there is othing wrong with supporting your employer....

i think it's against the rules to steer people towards a business or website that you profit from..

I visit the site fredmiranda.com/forum on a daily basis. A lot of professionals buying and selling used equipment. Also sportsshooter.com has a classified section as well, but you have to be a member to be able to see half the ads.
