Selling silver?

Has anyone sold their silver? I have a tea set and a few silver trays in the attic and I was wondering if they would be worth selling?

I do, all the time. The silver market follows the same curve as the gold market - not nearly as high, but - generally - when gold is up, so is silver. Records highs on both right now.

To give you an idea - the amount of silver in a half dollar is about $12ish.

Do items need to be solid "sterling silver...925"...I have a candlestick that says "sterling weighted"...is that any value?....OP I think silver will go up more so I think I will wait to sell mine, but I am glad you posted...as I wondered about this too

No, not all - the ones with silver content that high is prior to 1968, I believe.

I have been wondering about this too. We have some spoons that we have no idea where they came from. They started to tarnish soon after they were discovered and I realized they weren't the usual cheap stuff.

If it's sterling, you should get a good price for it. Where we live there's a business called The Silver Queen. They buy and sell what you're describing. If you look for coin dealers and jewelers in your Yellow Pages, you may find someone local that will buy your silver.

Unless it is sterling silver you won't get much for it. If it is "silver plate" or "holloware" then it isn't worth much.

My daughter recently took a bucket of change to a counting machine, and it didn't even occur to me to look through it for silver first. However, a silver quarter was rejected! She tried to put it through 2 or 3 times (again, it didn't occur to me to look at it) and finally gave up, and that's when I saw it was silver. Was this just a coincidence, or do they reject silver coins somehow?

I would hold off on selling silver right now. With the market going crazy, it will most likely go up. I just inherited a ton of silver coins from my father and my DH is watching the silver market closely for if/when we should sell. It's gone as high as $50 when all the turmoil was going on in the Middle East. We've contacted some coin dealers/jewelers and they've agreed to paying us 90%.

The OP doesn't have silver coins, she has silver tea set. She has not mentioned what the stamps on the bottom of it are. It is more than likely a silver plate tea set and is only worth about $100 unless it is stamped "sterling silver" which would then make it worth more.

I actually found a bunch of half-dollars, dated 1970 to 1986. And a coin marked One Florin. Plus alot of wheat pennies. I was hoping to get enough to pay for my ds tool set he needs for school ($300).

I have some really ugly candlesticks that were a wedding present...They have been in the box for almost 24 years, never used. The stamp on the bottom says "Sterling" "828" "Weighted."

Anyone have an idea if these have any value?

The Kennedy 1/2 dollars with silver in them are 1964 and earlier.
