If I were to sell some of my points, is there a minimum number of points I need to keep to remain in good standings?

My understanding is that you can't break up a contract. If you purchased a contract for 200 points, you have to sell the entire 200. You can't keep 50 and sell 150. If you have several contracts (from add-ons), I think you could just keep the smallest even if it is below the 150 minimum from purchasing a membership from DVC. I've heard of people purchasing these small contracts so I think you could keep one. Of course, your trading options outside of DVC would be very limited if you went below 150 points.

Pam's right, you can't split a contract. So if you have an original contract of 250 points and an add on of 50 you could sell either 250 or 50 points, but you couldn't sell 100 points because you would have to split the original contract to do it. If you just have one contract from an original purchase then you can only sell all of your points or none at all.

Remember that each contract is a real estate deed. That's why you can't split it.

It'd be like buying a house, then trying to sell just one of the bedrooms off of it.

It's all or nothing based on the original contract number of points. A 200 point contract represents x% of a building. A 400 point contract would be y% (or 2x% if you wish) of a building. Once developed, a contract's size is fixed from then on.

What happens to the contract if Disney buys it back through its ROFR? Can they, do they break them up, or are they still forever etched in stone?

DVC does break up contracts(ROFR) into smaller amounts.

Thanks for the info ncligs. Not that it matters, but I was curious based on the other things being said in this thread.

Your welcome.;) I was on a waitng list once for OKW points through DVC, and my guide told me I can have 50-200 pts, in any amount I wanted. This was about 2 months ago.

Just for reference, yes you can have less than 150 points total, but all contracts larger, small, master, add-ons, ect. must be sold as is and you can sell them in any combination of. We sold off our master BWV contract and now hold 2 add-ons to BWV and 2 add-ons to VWL and the 4 contracts do total just shy of 150 points.
