Selling our DVC

This is what DH says....well not renting, but maybe giving the points to family for a couple of years. Our kids are in high school now, and life is different. But maybe when they are in college, DH and I can go and enjoy it ourselves. He thinks we will miss it later in life....but then I think that the money I get from selling it could help pay for college (since the money we invested for their college is now half what it was a year ago).

Anyway, thanks everyone....just trying to figure out our options. We don't need the money now, and it isn't a problem paying our dues or anything. I am just having trouble dealing with the fact that at this time, vacationing isn't easy, but that maybe in a few years it will be again.

Sorry, I went on too much, again, just wanted to figure out my options.
Thanks everyone!

Don't forget the future grandkids.. never thought I'd have 8 and yet..here they are.

Thanks everyone!

Life was easier before puberty!

That's the truth! I just learned form DS that he doesn't care about college, he's going off to another state as soon as he graduates to be a waiter--ummm WTH? :scared1: Anyway I took the "let me know how that works for you" approach.
As far as your DVC sit tight for a bit, it is nice having the option to bank and just take your time and not rush. Things change and kids have to do their own thing as well.

Just my two cents, but just because you teenagers don't want to go and are soon going to college doesn't mean that you and your husband should not go on a vacation. Since your points are paid off where else are you going to vacation for a week in a place as nice in comparison to BCV for the price of your MF? You don't even have to go to the parks. I just helped a friend plan a trip for her family of 5 and it was unafforable to stay on site. Like they say this is NOT the time to sell because of the economy. Spend less money on other things.

From reading some of these replies I think some of you guys have burned out your kids with multiple yearly trips, the world has lost it's magic. We have 4 DC ages 16 thru 25 before we became members we would go down every 3 yrs, before we bought we sat down and had a meeting, my kids all love disney but they all agreed if they went down every year it would'nt be that special anymore never mind several times a year. We just came back from a week in a 2bdrm at SSR with our 16 & 18 year old boys, both heavy into sports the older also works 20hrs a week along with school and they loved it, still the same old magic. They arranged their scheduals at work and with school work to go, it would have killed them not to go. Our older two 22 and 25 both work full time and could not make it but vowed not to let that happen again. Our oldest now has a daughter, our first grandchild, so the magical trips will continue for sometime now. Maybe you could hold onto those points and go less often and the trips will become special again? Good luck.

Do you know I have to AGREE with this post. :thumbsup2 I have NOW REALIZED THIS. :scared1: :scared1: I thought I would never ever ever ever ever see this happen. I really came to realize this during our last two trips. I now know we will NOT go on multiple trips a year anymore. We were going twice a year for a couple of years then bought DVC in Jan. 07 when we were on a Jan. trip staying at Shades of Green.

So we went on our first DVC trip for 8 nights that same year in Aug. 07 Then we went again for our 2nd DVC trip in Nov. 07 for 8 nights. THEN....we went in Jan. 08 again for 6 nights staying at SOG again, THEN we went 2 weeks in July 08, for another DVC trip, followed by 8 nights in Nov. of 08 for another DVC trip.... THEN...WE WENT AGAIN JAN. OF THIS YEAR FOR 6 NIGHTS STAYING AT OKW. SO.....I now KNOW WHY MY 15 YEAR OLD DOES NOT WANT TO GO IN JULY for our 9 night trip. I HAVE BURNED THEM OUT.

I think if your kids are younger....they would be extremely happy about going that much. However when they are in their teens/high school it is very different. My 10 year old LOVES going all the time. However my 15 and 18 year old....first complained after the Nov. 07 trip where they missed 2 days of school. They said NEVER again will they miss two days for disney ever again. Just missing those two days ...stressed out my daughter.... then a Jr. in high school for a couple of weeks with making up schoolwork . :scared1: I felt so guilty. Then in Nov. of this year they missed 1 full day and they were not concerned about missing school, but my 15 year old started complaining about going so much. THEN in Jan. he was DISNEY DONE. My dd complained some in Jan. UGH It is sad:sad2: but kids do grow up and so I think our trips will change.

I have learned my lesson. If I had it to do all over again. We would have skipped that Jan. trip but hind sight is 20/20. We have always loved going to WDW but when the older kids start complaining.....then you realize that we need to step back and make some adjustments. So we have NO plans to go after this summer trip. I am sure we will do something in 2010 but who knows..... it might mean using our points elsewhere other than another trip to the world. :scared:

Best place to start is with a resale agent. The Timeshare store sponsers this forum and many have used them.

We used Shontell at www.dvcbyresale.com when we sold our Vero contract. She was great.

Good luck!

I just sold some of my points (one contract) through Shontell. You can list with multiple brokers. The only one that gave me a problem with trying to do that was GMAC, they insisted on a 6 month exclusive contract for the sale so I did not list with them. I had it listed with 3 brokers.

Listed our resale with the TTS on December 30th. Had the check in our hands on February 27th. Now that is service.:thumbsup2
