2 things.
1) Make sure you take really nice pictures. Lots of light and several angles of each product. The pictures are the MOST important thing you can do to get your item looked at. Look up how to make your own light box... when I finally started doing this, I started selling.
2) List EVERY DAY. Even if you have to relist an item list at least one item every day. This will keep you closer to the top of the search lists.
A few other things...
Really look at how much shipping is going to cost. Some people charge really crazy shipping charges, that always turns me off.
Also, don't underprice your items. Look to see what others are charging for similar items. Cheap prices tends to make people think you have a cheap product. (Of course, you don't want to over price either). I tend to start a little lower than what I see similar items selling for, and if it's a hot item (meaning I sell more than one) I'll bump the price a little the next time I list it and continue to do so until it seems to reach a breaking point.
Get active in the forums. If you are active, then more people will check your shop.
Bottom line is it takes a LOT of work to be successful on Etsy. It can be fun, but it can also become a chore.
Best of luck!
