I have started selling on Ebay again after cleaning out the basement. Lots of Disney tshirts, etc. Any advice to get these things sold? I have sold a few things but I am determined to do it this time BIG TIME!

Good Luck to you I used to sell on there years ago okay 3 pieces of advice off the top of my head for you

1-Post Great Pics as a bidder I want to see it or I'm moving on to another auction

2-Really utilize the key words prompt--for example I collect Chef Mickey items BIG time (:lmao: can you guess that ??) so I am not going to just prompt mickey or mickey mouse I am going to narrow it down to chef mickey or gourmet mickey

3-Don't start bidding amount too high.tempt me in as a bidder and watch the bidding wars begin  better for you fun for all

That's about it, I'm sure you know feedback is very impt so keep a good reputation, communicate/answer questions/ship tp me in NEW box or pkg, not something that was recycled & retaped a thousand times

We sell a lot on Ebay....

good pics, upclose pics if needed, in focus and good light

good description, be accurate on tears, wear, stains, etc. if you are selling tee shirts or shirts....list the armpit to armpit in inches and lenght...this helps people to decide if it will fit

be real on pricing...the lower the opening price the more action you will get...but be prepared to sell at that lower price, we have a lot sell with one bid...

realize that shipping will cost YOU, so charge accurately. We lost a lot on shipping before we got this right. don't undercharge or YOU will lost costs. We always send USPS Priority Mail too...it provided tracking and Ebay Seller Protection. if the buyer doesn't like it too bad.

We started allowing International and have decide that is just too much hassle and the shipping costs are astronomical. So we are not doing that so much any more.

Good Luck !! We do it on the side for fun to save for Disney trips and its addicting once the stuff starts to sell. :goodvibes

I took a quick look at your Tees...cute...but I would consider selling in the Disneyana, theme park wear category...

its more likely Disney people will buy than others...just a thought

and maybe put measurements in inches....that would help me to know if I was looking at them. have fun !!!!;)

I haven't sold on eBay for years..are the only pay options now PayPal? I don't like dealing with it, when I stopped selling (but still buying of course) I could pay with a personal check or a postal m/o...did eBay change the rules ?? OR did all the sellers just decide it was easier & safer..

Your auction looks like you did everything right :thumbsup2

Thank you...I did take some advice from Disney-Kim though...

OK I changed my category...and I am off to measure the shirt. Never would have thought of that! (DONE!)

Going to put up another one now that I know I am on the right track! (DONE!)

Thanks all!!

eBay "forced" the majority of sellers to use PayPal and ONLY PayPal a while back on most categories. Some big ticket items are excluded (cars, boats, planes, etc..) where the transactions occur face2face.

To the OP I would recommend adding SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION when you ship. Last year I shipped ~ 500 items via USPS Priority Mail. I mostly sell LEGO related items on eBay. In any case I had 3 cases last year in which charge backs were done becuase the buyer claimed I never delivered the items. Got burned on the first one (before I was using SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION) as I only had proof via CONFIRMATION DELIVERY & PayPal made the determination that while the item was "delivered" it did not get to the actual buyer or his representative. Learned my lesson on that one lost the money on that one. So now I pay for the SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION and it has worked nicely. Has 2 more cases where buyer try to do a charge back and this time PayPal afetr me sending them the paperwork with the signature denied the buyer's request and banned both of them!

Also don't forget about taxes. Uncle sam is going to want his cut of your profit at the end of the year. Put aside about 25% of your profit for this. Plus I would recommend NOT allwoing sales within your home state. Else you will have to collect and send your state it's taxes as well. It's not that hard but then your local county/city may want it's share ofthe taxes and the county/city may impose "biz" permits cause you have a "biz" even if it's in your home. Then the city/town can fine you for havine a home biz in a residential zone. :sad2: It's a MESS and unless you are going to be bring in big time $$$ (100K+) I would not go this route yet. If you get bigger then incorporate and tell with all these additional taxes.

To help you out get some type of tracking software (Quicksbooks is great) to track your sales and expenses. Quickbooks (what I use) also has tax reports that you can use come tax time. It may seem like a lot but slowly but surely you will get there. Good luck.

Pm or eMail me if you have more questions.

When you print your shipping labels through Paypal ( a HUGE benefit of Paypal) you get automatic "Delivery Tracking". Now you pay $1.95 extra to have "Signature Confirmation" and the buyer has to sign for it. Most find this a hassle for low ticket items. Just my thoughts...we don't do it...but when we sell big ticket we always insure the item and I belive they have to sign for it with that.

Pretty much..ebay changed the rules and sellers can get kicked off for taking cash/money orders and checks...there are a couple other online payment options but PayPal is pretty much the only one I use or get. Also...I try and be super accurate with postage. I weigh the item and packaging and check the USPS site for what it would cost at the furthest distance from me. Then I add the cost for Delivery Confirmation and maybe only 25 cents more as padding. I, as a buyer, HATE inflated shipping costs so I won't do that as a seller. I will occasionally use Priority but only if it's economical.
I sell overseas alot as well and do the same thing..get weight and check USPS for international costs so I can properly quote those interested.

True.. True... The SIGNATURE is $1.95 extra. If you buy the shipping via PayPal or via the USPS.COM website there is a small discount that is given for buying online as oppose to going to the USPS (physcial place).

Plus if you buy via PayPal the "tracking number" is automatically linked to the auction listing in eBay so your buyer can see this. Plus it's linked on the PayPal website for you and them as well.

I don't like PayPal but use the needed evil just for eBay. Small word of advise don't keep a big balance in PayPal. Move it to your external bank account that is linked to your PayPal account & once it hits that account move it to another account NOT linked to your PayPal account.

Why? If your PayPal account gets hacked into the theif gets access to your bank account linked to it. If PayPal decided that for some reason your are doing something illegal (be it that you are or are not) they can LOCK your account at any time and freeze your balance.

I had it happen to me on the DVDs I was selling even though I owned the copyright of the DVD and had on file with eBay that I was the copyright owner! It took 4 weeks to get my account unfrozen back in 2007 and it was a nightmare on my biz that month. Since they I keep a zero balance 99% of the time on PayPal and do the double move of the funds so PayPal can't take any of my money away.

Thanks...you have given me a lot to think about here. I am not sure how big I will get...right now it's two small auctions just to test the waters...but I will keep this all in my files to look at if/when things go well!

One more question for the experts...what is a good number of auctions to have going at once? I don't want to get overwhelmed with shipping, etc. I have one ending tonight and another one next week. Is that a good pace until I see if things sell? Hate to pay Ebay fees for things to just "sit".

Several train of thoughts on this one. My comfort level is no more than 20 items per week for me. Any more than that & I can't keep up with the email questions, shipping, items, and provide good customer service.

Keep in mind that eBay will bill you every 30 days for the past 30 day fees. I tend to give eBay their cut as soon as I get the money from the buyer this way I don't have to worry about it later on. Thus doing 20 at a time and selling 75% of that most of the time and I can cover all the ebay fees with one or two sales so it's one less thing to worry about.

When i first started I did 1 or 2 per week until I felt more comfortable and had a system in place to track stuff.

Would also recommend that you make yourself a template for your auctions.
Something like...

Your Policies
- Warranty
- Returns
- Shipping
- No SALES to
- Copyright Info
- etc..

This way all your auctions have the same "look" and its' easy to toss another auction up by just filling out the description and putting the images up.

Taking about images I would suggest uploading to a free host (majhost.com, flicker, etc..) and embedding those images into your auction via a small thumbsize pic so that the buyer can click on the image to enlarge. This cuts down on the cost since eBay only allows one FREE image but you can put them images "INSIDE" your auction. :woohoo:

Thank you for all of your advice...will definitely be taking this all in.

Here is an interesting tidbit of info...once I put my items into Disneyana, it told me I could have up to 12 pictures free?? That is why I put up so many with my second auction. I always thought one also but I tried it and sure enough FREE!

I usually do about 20-30 a week. Ebay started new fees structures this week. Under 1.00 lists for free, 9% for them if it sells..then of course PayPal gets their 29 cents plus 3%, so if you don't mind having things sell that low and clearing about 50 cents you can try that :lmao:
I have listed some stuff like that..brings it to about garae sale territory, but you never know when you .99 opening bid will go up and up. At least you aren't out anything if it doesn't sell. (you can list 100 items a month for under 1.00 with no fees)

Yes..collectibles section allows multiple pictures for free....

I also think good pics is a key for ebay!

I have lots of things listed and will be listing more!

check out my stuff on ebay... ebay id.. Vickie28

you may want to test the waters and see if a couple sell and how it works out before you list a bunch....

saves you the fees....and then you know if its worth it or not...;).

Totally not meaning to threadjack, but is there a "how to sell on ebay" good website. I've got a lot of stuff I want to get rid off, but just no idea on how to get started? I've gotten a lot of good info here!

Ex - what supplies do I need for shipping? The taxes, ebay fees, never thought of.

Do you all think it is worth it? Or should I just have a garage sale first and then see?
