Selling Games at Gamestop

Do you get a decent price for selling games or is Ebay better? My son two DS games, Lego Rockband and Pokemon games for Christmas. He opened both, played once and decided he doesn't want them.

Call or go to your local store and ask, also see what Amazon game trade ins will give you, they are usually more but you get Amazon credit, Gamestop will give you one amount for store credit and less if you want cash. Also if you didn't know if you buy used games at gamestop you have 7 days to try them out, if you don't like them take them back for the full amount you paid for them. Makes getting storecredit worthwhile.

Anytime we've traded or sold games it was a waste, they really dont give you much. I think you can definitely make more off Ebay, we always have!

I had bought the Millionhair game for Nintendo DS when it was still fairly new. I decided I didn't like it so I brought it to Gamestop. They gave me $5.20 in store credit. Definitely not the greatest price, I will check other places next time I need to trade in.

I would sell on Ebay. I made $1000 selling games there in one month. Trade in value would have been drastically lower.

No, Gamestop will buy back your $50 game for $5 and then turn around and put it on the used rack for $45.

You can try secondspin.com. They'll tell you on their website what they'll pay and you can either get store credit, cash (check) or paypal. I've used them and found them to be pretty fair. They also run specials sometimes where they'll give you 10 or 20% more on your items than normal.

These are two popular games, but sadly trade-in value isn't very good for most games. Does he have a friend or cousin that he could trade games with--sort of like passing them along and getting something "new" to him?

First I would try craigslist or any other local classifieds. Our local paper has no fees when item is priced under $100. Even our local tv has online ads for free. If not buyers that way I'd call gamestop get a trade in quote and compare it to TRU trade in value. You can look up online values online at TRU with the title or UPC # and then mail in or take it into the store for trade in. Ive found 9 out 10 times TRU has a better price plus they don't require the instructions nor do they care about scratches.

Toys R Us has a trade in program. You can go online and see exactly what they will give you. If you decide to send them, you print out a prepaid shipping label and when they get them, they will send you a TRU giftcard. They give more than Gamestop.

I believe Target also has a trade in program too. You have to do it as a mail in just like TRU.

I did the Toys R Us site last month and was quite happy with it. Only issue (and really it wasn't truly an issue) was that it seemed like it took forever for the games to get to Toys R Us.

As stated, you print out a prepaid shipping label and I'm sure since it's pre-paid they were going "slow boat to China" rate.

Once they were there, it was pretty quick to process and get the gift card back to me.

I may have been able to sell for more on Ebay or Craigslist, but this way I avoided any hassle and the gift card came in time for me to use it to buy Christmas gifts for the kids.

Yes, if you go the bottom of Best Buys homepage, there is a link for trade in center. They take lot's of different used items. I sold 2 Ipods and a cell phone to them, and make $350. I used the gift cards to buy Christmas presents.

I don't know that they pay a ton for games, I saw $12 for the Lego Rockband DS, but you know what you are getting and don't have to deal with e-bay shipping and fees.

If you choose TRU you may wanna call them because I was able to trade in at my local store and get the credit immediately. No need to mail in and wait.

The only thing about gamestop is if he wants a new popular game sometimes they run specials. DH wanted the new Call of Duty game so he traded in two other popular games he'd had over a year and he was able to purchase COD for $20 (which is normally $60). So essentially he got $20 trade in credit per game for that promo.

I would do any of these EXCEPT Gamestop. As stated earlier, they just don't pay anything. I regret ever trading with them. They really do give you $5 for a game and resell it for $30.

Depending on your DS's age, you maight want to hang on to the games a bit longer...in case he grows into them or has trader's regret.

GameStop a total rip off!! We had a game that they said they would only give us $3 for. We just kept it. We bought another game and in the bag was a flyer with a list of games that they were buying back for $20!!! And our game was on it!!!! so we took it to another store in our town and they didn’t know what we were talking about and also offered us $3. So we went and got the flyer and went to a closer store and they gave us the $20, which you had to use towards another game.
We told a friend and she went to a GameStop and they also wouldn’t honor it. My flyer is like GOLD.

This deal is till the was Dec 26th through January 10th. It’s a full color 2 sided flyer and has no restrictions except that the game has to be listed. We traded in Hannah Montana used the money to get Mario Game Party 8. I am not sure what my friend traded in.

We will NOT be renewing our membership. I think it’s crap that none of the store follow the same policies and try to cheap their customers.

Gamestop, the Exchange etc used to be really good places to sell games however this last time I got hardly anything. The employee told me that people were stealing games/videos from stores and then selling them for cash. One couple stole over $20K in dvd's from our local grocery store and sold them. She also said that when they got a large stock of a game, they pay less.

I sell my son's games on Craiglist and usually meet people in front of the local Gamestop. I check Gamestop's used game price and ask for about 15% less. Gamestop used to pay out about 1/2 what they sold the game for used, but now, it is more like 25%.

I second what someone else said about making sure you son is ready to give the games up. This is coming from the mom whose son bought, traded in, rebought, traded in and then rebought several of the Pokemon games over the course of three years.
