Looking for tips as I sell my DVC membership - any things to watch out for or avoid? What commission should I expect to pay? Any advice is welcomed!

Most timeshare resellers charge in the 10% to 12% range. Really, it works like most other real estate transactions. A buyer submits a bid, you either accept or decline it. Closing fees and dues are negotiable between the two parties. Once an offer is accepted, it is submitted to DVC to either waive or take their Right of First Refusal.

Either way, the seller will receive their cash in accordance with the agreed upon terms, only Disney would be the buyer instead of who originally made the offer.

Avoid any broker who wants any money up front.

Avoid any broker who wants you to sign over your deed up front.

Use a reputable closing service so buyer and seller have an independent escrow to process the transactions.

Check the BBB and state licensing agency to see if the broker's business record is in good order and if their broker license is in good standing with no disciplinary actions or complaints.

Talk with the folks at The Timeshare Store (our forum sponsor -- see top of page). I have used them for multiple sales and purchases and very much appreciate their advice and professionalism.
