Our inground oil tank leaked about six or seven years ago. Everything was cleaned up and we got a "no further action" letter from the state. Lately, I have been reading articles about home insurers really cracking down on what they will insure, and in some cases, the insurer won't insure a home with a past, fixed problem, which results in the sale falling through.

We would like to put our house on the market and I was wondering if any of you have had experience with this.

You'll have to fill out a disclosure. Be honest, or it could come back to haunt you. If you got a clearance from the state, then the problem is "fixed". The insurer should have no problem.

Have the documentation that it has been repaired properly and the "OK" available, disclose the info right from the beginning and there should be no problem.
