I won a gift card to a store I would never shop in. I have seen gift cards put up for sale on eBay or at gift card sites and was wondering who has done this and how it worked? I am just thinking how does the buyer know the card is worth the amount you say it is? And then what happens if they buy on eBay, use it immediately and then say it had no balance?
Thanks!

Ive purchased several gift cards off of Ebay and I guess the buyer just has to trust the seller that the amount really is there. Is there a way you can take it to the store it is for and get a balance reciept? If so I would get two of them, one for you and one to send with the card. Ide hate to think someone would use it and then complain, but very possible. I havent heard of it being a problem though. GL

I would never buy a gift card off of someone I didn't know. If I had a gift card I wouldn't use, I'd regift it, perhaps to the kitty sitter or someone like that, who would be more likely to appreciate the card, or try to sell it to a co-worker, someone from my church, or a neighbor - someone who could rely on the validity of the card, based on the fact that we're going to see each other often going forward.

There are sites where you can sell gift cards. Giftcardrescue and plasticjungle come to mind. You won't get face value but you will get a fair bit. Both are completely legit, I have done business with both. One of them will give you more if you take the payout as an Amazon gift card but I don't recall which one.

I thought of that. The problem is that it is a teen girl store (16-18ish). I do not know any teen girls. I do not even know any little girls I have to buy a gift for. Even if I did the amount is more then I would just give out to a sitter or similar. The store itself only sells clothing, a very few accessories and ugly bed sheets :confused3. I thought at worst I could buy some winter scarves for friends but they are sold out of most colors and styles. Actually the pickings were pretty slim.

Thanks trustknoone for the names of companies you have dealt with. One does take this stores gift cards. I would get 60% of the value. Not sure if it is worth it at that rate. Maybe they will have less ugly bedsheets in the spring :rotfl:

I do. And if you and I knew each other, I would have surely taken them off your hands. I've already this season bought gift cards from Wet Seal and from PacSun.
