I'm thinking about getting an iphone. If you have one, do you like it? How is your coverage? Do you experience many dropped calls? I've had AT&T in the past and never had trouble with dropped calls or coverage, but I've never had an AT&T phone on the 3G network. How is the coverage in WDW? TIA

I love mine! It's wondeful. I'm posting from it right now. I have excellent service, I had verizon before and actually am much happier with AT&T. I just love all the wonderful apps they they have, I find I can do so much more from my phone. No need to lug around a laptop no longer :-)

I LOVE my iphone. My DH calls it a gift from God. I used to get mad at him for always messing with it, until he bought me one. Now if I leave the house without it I have to go back and get it! My reception is fine, I don't drop calls and have no problems with the 3G.

Another iphone lover! I don't remember how I ever lived without it. I can check email, read/post the DIS boards, play games, even watch TV shows on it....and oh, yeah, even make a call! Have not had any problems with dropped calls.

Love, love love my iPhone.

I have had no problems with dropped calls but it all depends on where you are. A friend of mine out east would love one but AT&T coverage is not great where he is.

I have the original iPhone, but would like to upgrade to the new one at some point. One of the things I really wanted was the ability to videotape, but now there's an app for that so it's not as big a deal.

The internet is great, I've used it time and time again. It's not speedy like DSL or broadband but it's extremely usable and the browser is pretty easy to use.

Definitely recommend it.

I had US Cellular before, and AT&T is fine. I don't recall having any dropped calls. I LOVE the iphone! Now, it's easier to text, I love all the apps. It's so easy to use! If the mac is just as easy as the iphone, I just might switch from a pc...

I haven't had any more problems with dropped calls on the iphone than I had on my last AT&T phone. As for the phone itself, I can't imagine life without it.

I think my DH loves his iphone more than me sometimes! He claims it is the best invention ever. We have never had any problems with reception or dropped calls. Worked like a charm at WDW this past december!

I love my iPhone! As much as I travel, it would be hard to manage my business without it, even though I have a laptop with me as well. Okay, I admit it... part of my love affair with the iPhone comes with having my own app and my portrait clients think I'm too cool, LOL!

easier, honestly. :)

the only problem I had with mine was due to my geographic location.
There is no option to have the actual iPhone connect to only your provider's coverage (like my BB had), only to turn off data roaming.

When at UT-El Paso, I am about 200 yards from Mexico. This means my phone would always reconnect to a Mexican cell tower if I lost signal, and I then couldn't use it without surcharges until I got far enough away from the border for signal to fade out... about 5 miles or so.

Called AT&T billing and had them code my account to prevent foreign roaming. Now the phone doesn't even try to use a foreign cell tower, and if I do lose signal it comes back to AT&T.

I suggest the iPhone 3Gs, I got the 3G and my wife got the 3Gs last August, and I though I was sooooo slick saving money that way...

Until I found out hers has a compass so the nav is even more accurate, hers does voice dialing so she can call handsfree, hers can take video, etc etc. :)

when she upgrades, I'm getting hers and selling mine.

Good thread! I have been wondering about iphone too. What I want to know is how hard is it going from a full keyboard to an iphone. My current phone is a touch screen but I do my texting with the slideout keyboard.

Absolutely love it!!!

Aside from how cool it is to peruse the DISBoards on it, it's also great for things like http://www.cellfire.com/ You can add coupons to your card while you are shopping in the supermarket!

Or using the RedBox app for renting movies on the fly --- we've walked into the supermarket to find a long line of people so while we shop we also surf what's available from that box right on our iPhones and reserve them on the phone and hope that the line is gone after we check out with our groceries.

I've never had problems with AT&T in my area. I also have a Blackberry from work and I much prefer the iPhone!

I got my iPhone (3G) last June and used it on my WDW trip that year. It was such a breeze and invaluable, I wish I'd left my laptop at home! Between the apps (esp. Radio Disney, Sirius Radio, Southwest, Twitter), Google maps, the browser (Safari) I can't imagine life without it. Coolest thing was being able to use Google maps from within WDW. But all that aside, the iPhone is all its cracked up to be and more. I haven't regretted having it. :thumbsup2

3G at WDW can vary GREATLY. I've had Edge coverage at AKL, POP and CSR, and gangbusters of a 3G signal at EPCOT, DHS, MK and all the MK resorts.

As for dropped calls...well...AT&T has always done that for me on occasion.

don't know much about the iphone, but DH and I have the motorola droid from verizon and love it. it has both a touch screen and slide out key board. It has an extremely fast browser, no issues with coverage or dropped calls. We didn't have any issues at Disney either, as far as coverage.

I really love my Iphone, never had any dropped calls and easy to use. I loved mine so much that we just bought a Macbook Pro. Let me tell you I'll never buy a regular PC again.

I went 11 years being as an extremely loyal Verizon customer. I loved Verizon. Loved their coverage, loved their customer service, hated their phones. When the iPhone came out, I called them monthly begging them for a phone ANY phone that could compete with the iPhone. Nothing. I finally gave up. How much do I love my iPhone? I paid a $325 termination fee to get my entire family share plan canceled at Verizon and moved us all to AT&T.

Honestly, if Verizon wasn't so tight lipped about the android phones (I actually liked the form factor of the Eris more than the Droid), I probably would have stayed with them. The androids are great phones. But even still, I am sooooo glad I switched. I love the iPhone. There are so many things that are great about it. As for negatives, the AT&T coverage is simply not as good as Verizon. I have occaisionally dropped a call but it has been rare. The other negative of the iPhone is the lack of multitasking of 3rd party apps. I think that will change with the 4.0 release.

Which brings me to the major positives. The iPhone is always evolving and constantly getting software updates. Apps are also aways getting upgrades. Android and Windows are software platforms loaded on dozens of phones where the iPhone software is made specifically for one device. Those reasons alone make it head and shoulders above any other phone. The OS and third party apps can be customized for the iPhone. Then there are little things that make it great like just due to popularity, there are so many accessories to enhance your mobile phone experience, car adapters, iHomes made specifically for the iPhone (and iPods), cases. I wanted a Disney case and there were several to choose from. I love my classic Mickey case.

May I ask how much the monthly bill is? I'd love to get one but am :scared1: about the monthly cost. Thanks!

The cost is the same as any other AT&T cell phone. Since it is considered a 'smart phone' you are required to get the $30/month data plan. That is a standard charge for all smart phones on both AT&T and Verizon.

Can you be more specific? Is the $30 per line? I'm thinking of switching in July when our Verizon plan expires and I was wondering how much everyone pays for their family plans with other companies. We don't need alot of minutes. It's mostly texting and I know my kids would love to be able to use the internet on their phones.

It's a separate $30 for each iPhone on your family plan.

If you go to the AT&T site you can do a dummy mock order on it and and add all the phones and service you want and it will give you a monthly price.
