I am interested in doing a Segway tour.
Can't decide between Epcot and Fort Wilderness area.

Has anyone done these?
Can you give me reasons why to do one vs. the other, please.
Many thanks!

Did you ever take the "Hidden Treasures of the World Showcase" tour? The Epcot Segway tour is like a very abbreviated Hidden Treasures...on a Segway.

I took the Segway tour because I wanted to zip around on a Segway and not because I wanted an actual tour. While the tour guide was talking, I was thinking, "Yeah, yeah, forced perspective, blah, blah, blah. I've heard all this before and I don't care. When do we get to keep riding?"

So I can't really tell you about the tour part of the Epcot one and I didn't do the other.

I really liked riding the Segway and will do another Segway tour. It was fun. I doubt that helps any, but there you have my experience. :)

I have done both.

I loved Epcot and going into World Showcase when there wasn't anyone else there.

BUT...

I absolutley ADORED the Ft. Wilderness tour. It felt longer, you got to see so much around the camp ground and the nature preserve. Both myself and another couple said to each other it was much better than the Epcot tour. If the weather isn't too hot, go for Ft Wilderness.

Don't mean to hijack....

Did anybody went on a segway tour at Ft. Wilderness during christmas time, while the campgrounds are decorated??
If so, do you get to see some of the decorations??

I have done the World Showcase one. I totally enjoyed it. I would love to do the one at Fort Wilderness.

Not a hijack!
I have the same question. Would be a good way to see campgrounds. I read somewhere they go on a path between the campground and Wilderness Lodge. Don't know what else they do.

I see the point about the Epcot tour - will I see anything that I can't see on foot and learn anything I have not read in a book or on the Internet? or is it "just" a chance to ride a Segway?

I read reviews of a Segway tour in Boston. Most of the complaints were that it was not a tour of the sites of Boston. It was a Segway ride through Boston. they did not learn anyhing about history or sites.

And, yes, I do want to ride a Segway! Where is the question?

When I did the Ft Wilderness Tour, it was at Christmas. And yes a lot of the camp sites were decorated. One we passed had to have FORTY inflatable decorations. The guide said the owner was probably still asleep because none of them were inflated. Just like a bunch of deflated balloons on the ground all around the motor home. It would have been great to see them all inflated. It was fun to see the decorations (even the ones that weren't inflated. :lmao:)

I don't think we went "behind the scenes" at all. If we did, I don't recall it. But we did ride our segways through parts of one or two pavillions that you might not expect to ride a segway through, which was kind of cool.

I doubt you'll learn anything, but you do have to stop and listen to a tour guide for a couple minutes here and there.

I've said before that they ought to do two different things: tours and segway rides. Do the tours on foot and let people ride the segways all over the place on the segway rides.

But for now you're doing both and neither is the full experience it could be.

Still fun, though. :)

Have done the Epcot one, and loved it! Of course, the best part was learning the Segway and tooling around the World on it. Don't think I listened much to the tour, although I'm sure it was very informative.

Have done the Segway tour in Nassau (Hi, Kim!), and that was an absolute blast! Tooling through the wooded pathways and playing games on the Segways was SOOO much less restrictive than riding around Epcot! And we got to go pretty fast.

I haven't done the Ft. Wilderness tour yet. I imagine that it will be something in between the controlled flat pace of Epcot and the very unrestricted freedom of Nassau.

I want an offroad Segway SOOO bad...

I've done it twice. 4 years ago, and 2 weeks ago.

The first tour was great... the second one, not so much.

The first tour took us up ramps, down stairs, over the trains near Germany, through the gardens in America... and so much more.

The second tour was a big let down. We traveled around some of the countries, but not through the obsticle course type tour that I so enjoyed the first time.

It's a great time either way. I also want to do the FW tour.

Thank you Lyn. :worship:

I've now learned of something useful to do on Nassau. ;)

I want to echo this. I also took the tour twice. The first one might have been around the time you took it, and I do remember doing an "obstacle course" through the countries. The second time, not so much, and the tour guide had an accent I couldn't understand. I believe she was from Brazil. I don't think she should have been giving tours. (For what it's worth, I usually have no difficulty understanding people with accents. Yvette, for example, I can understand clearly. I loved hearing her speak on the Med cruise video and blogcasts.)

I really want to try the Ft. Wilderness tour.

I think it depends totally on your guide and not when you took it. I went about a month ago, and was treated to the obstacle course route. Great fun.

We've done both as well.
We did the Epcot tour 3 times- and loved every one. DH & I did it first by ourselves and liked it so much we wanted to take our kids, and then another time we went with another couple we vacation with. Tons of fun every time.

We did the Ft Wilderness Segway tour once (Jan 2, 2009) with our kids. It was very pleasant. We had a great guide with a terrific sense of humor. The Christmas decorations were still up and he took us through a couple of camper loops to see them. We enjoyed that so much we went back in Dec 2009 on foot just to wander around and enjoy the insane decorations!!
Back to the Segway... we did not go on the path from Wilderness Lodge to FW, but we did go down near the Bay, through several loops, to the horse barn and a couple of other places.

I like them both- and would actually recommend flipping a coin. Heads go to Epcot, tails go to FW. You come out with a great experience either way. :thumbsup2
