We did this about 5 years ago...so the memory is fuzzy on the guidelines. Has anyone here done this? Do you recall what the age requirement is? I want to take my two teens, but not sure they are old enough yet.

The minimum age for the Round the World on a Segway tour is 16. Dh and I did it back in February and it was really good. There were 2 teenage boys on our tour and I recall they were asked for ID when checking in for the tour so they obviously do check ages.

Thanks! :thumbsup2 When I did this before, it was just me and DH. We will have to wait another year before the kids can go then. Not sure what id ours would be able to give...no drivers license in NJ until 17...so maybe they would just take their AP's as proof of age since their age is linked to it somehow? Oh well...I will worry about that when I go to schedule next March's trip. Thanks again!

NJ DMV will issue id only...but you still have to be 17 years old-at 17 they will have their licenses...so it'll be a moot point. The kids get their learners permits at 16 1/2. I think I may be able to get a county id...but that is such a hassle-one day of work totally down the toilet to go get that for them-our county courthouse is way far at the opposite end of the county. Nothing is ever easy! :sad2: I suppose Disney will tell me what I need when I call. Possibly we will just make the kids wait to join us until the trip after they get their driver's licenses at 17. :sad1:

In Maryland the MVA will issue an ID that is not a driver's license.

Or will your kids have learner's permits by then?
When wee went with my niece (her mom and dad were with us too). I think she showed her learner's permit (which did have her birthdate on) and then, because the learner's permit didn't have a picture, she showed her school ID. That didn't have her age, but did have her picture.

Under 18 do not need an ID so long as you sign the Minor Waiver in which you declare your child's age.

The minimum age to operate the Segway, though, is 16. They CAN ID you, though, so if your teens look 12 be prepared.

Okay, this is good to know. Thanks so much for the info! :cheer2:

When we went a year ago with our niece, we were told when we made the reservation that a parent had to be there to sign the waiver (not a problem since both her parents were going). We were also told that she would need ID to show she was over 16. The CM who checked her in did look it over very carefully to make sure she was over 16, so I would not count on them just taking your word for it (niece was one who looked more than 18). I am not sure exactly what ID she used (I think it was her learner's permit and her school ID), but I know it was looked at carefully because 8 out of the 10 people on the tour were with our party and we all were teasing niece about it.

Since you have some time, why not get a copy of her birth certificate? Call and find out if you can request it online or over the phone. it shouldn't be hard to do.

I don't want to carry their passports or birthcertificates (even copies) if I don't have to-too many worries if they get lost or stolen.

Now to be honest...what is there to stop someone from forging photocopies of these documents so that their kids can go? Not an issue here, but really, not everyone is honest. Very easy to do...so that would be pretty sad if Disney accepts a copy of anything as id.

My kids have school id's that have their name, photo, school name and their grade...wonder if that would satisfy the requirements? I would feel better about carrying something like that...enough info, but not too much that I would be paranoid over identity theft if they lost them. Oh well, too much conflicting info-then again, maybe it depends on your tour guide? I don't know. I'm just going to call Disney and find out what the deal is from them since I have to call today regarding our DVC. Hopefully I'll get someone on the phone who knows what they are talking about. :upsidedow I'll post what I'm told once I have the scoop from the source. ;)

Okay, I just remembered that I forgot to update on this thread! :rotfl:

Anyhoo...I called Disney and the CM I spoke with said they do not require ID be shown for 16 year olds on the Segway tour. I told her I had received conflicting information and she put me on hold while she checked with someone else-she came back to me and said definitely no, though I would have to sign a waiver.
